  • Response to intervention (RTI) is a multi-level prevention system to maximize student achievement and reduce behavioral problems. With RTI, schools use data to identify students at risk of poor learning outcomes, monitor student progress, provide and adjust evidence-based interventions when needed, and identify students with learning disabilities or other disabilities. In this video, Dia Jackson describes the importance of implementing RTI with fidelity and how she provides RTI coaching and professional development to schools so that they see gains in student achievement.

How can you do this when you have to differentiate instruction?

What is class time allotted for the Muti tier strategy?
Is the time uninterrupted 90 minute classes
First whole group then Tier 2 and finally tier 3?
What are the students who mastered the standard doing when others are in Tier 2

How do you deal with children that do not want to open up during small group instruction? If a child simply does not want to participate, they will actively resist. What is a good way of stopping that, while not overtly showing that your goal is to get them to join in?

The class must be engaging and the teacher must make a big effort to get students involve in lessons
