- DIY Twig Fairy House Lamp
Hi, in this video tutorial I show you how I made a twig fairy house. I think this house can be placed outside if coated with some varnish. It's an easy project anyone can do, with little effort and awesome results. It's also a great way to stimulate children creativity and imagination. I got the idea after a short trip to the countryside where I found lots of twigs and branches laying around in my uncle's yard after some tree pruning. What a great material!
I started by drawing the front of the house to have a pattern to follow when cutting and gluing the twigs together. I used the same pattern for the back of the house as well but without the door and windows. The hot glue sticks to wood so well so I glued the twigs easily. I made a pattern for the sides of the house as well. When I had all the walls I glued them together. I made the door from smaller twigs and glued it in place. The roof is made out of dried moss suspended on longer twigs. I also made a cricked chimney out of a thicker twig. After the house was finished I added some light white patina using acrylic paint. For the base of the house I used twigs and some oddly shaped branches. I made the staircase the same way. I also glued some dried moss here and there to add some contrast and texture. Inside I placed the LED lights I usually have but if this is for outdoor use you should use water resistant LED lights.

Have you ever thought about auctioning off one of your houses when your little ones ? have a school fete (I'm English) I'm pretty sure they would raise a good sum of money for the school to buy equipment. I used to build these 20 years ago. The one thing I want to point out is at 4:01, notice all the "backup" hot glue used on the inside of the house. THIS KIND OF HOUSE WILL NOT HOLD TOGETHER....unless you use a CRAZY amount of glue. I did some very cool ones and sold them at over 80$ a piece. Only to later have them break apart. So when you think you've used enough hot glue. Hit it all again. Like I said...CRAZY amount.
I like this channel ideas a lot, and have done several, that have turned out great. But i'm done with stick homes. Best to luck to anyone who goes for it.
Hi I am trying to do a similar art project as a gift. I too am having problems with the glue not holding. Even when I apply an excessive amount. Is there a better option? Better glue sticks? Epoxy?
S3ven SixTwo Honestly I really don’t know. Like I’ve mentioned above, I’m done with these kinds of houses. Using a heavier grade of hot glue would work, but if your wood sticks have a loose hold... like they are dried out but the wood skin gets loose and falls off, the better glue wouldn’t have made any difference at all. Other than literally coating the entire inside of the structure I have no good ideas for this kind of problem.

Another great work. I like the way you used the smaller twigs around the door frame and the windows. It gives a different dimension to the house. The raised platform came out really nice too. Very cool looking overall.

Ive had the 'ingredients' sat in a tub for a year now, awaiting a moment of inspiration/motivation to try and create a small house as a (very, very late) gift for a friend. I wasn't sure where to start, and think you have just solved that problem for me. I was considering modelling the walls around plastic bottles (cut and shaped), but this method of using a surface and outline I think will offer more precision and freedom. Thanks so much for sharing, now I just got to get through the housework to earn fun time :)
