MY FIRST SURGERY IN VET SCHOOL: getting to operate for the first time 🐶

This week I got to scrub in and perform my first surgery in vet school! I honestly feel on top of the world and this day was hands down the best day I've had in vet school as a student so far. I spent the week preparing for my first surgery by practicing my suture patterns, gowning and gloving and reviewing the spay and neuter procedures. Great job on your first surgery!! 🎉 I am finishing up high school and really want to be a vet and I love watching your videos! They are so informative and inspiring! I was wondering, I have minor FAS so my hands have a small tremor. Do you think I could still be a vet and go to vet school if my hands shake? I really want to but I figured like with human medicine you need a steady hand to be able to do certain things like surgeries.

Do you first begin to get exposed to animals during vet school or undergrad? After finding you on CZcams I finally settled on becoming a vet and I’m happy with my decision 😊

I started getting animal and veterinary experience in high school! I'm currently not working while in vet school (other than youtube) but it is definitely possible to have a job while in the program! It just takes really good time management! 😊 good luck on your vet school journey!

I’m definitely no expert so please feel free to correct me if I’m wrong, but I had always thought that the cuff of the gown should go to around the knuckles underneath the gloves as opposed to just past the wrist for best aseptic technique?

I’m definitely not an expert either so take this with a grain of salt haha - but we were taught that the cuff isn’t sterile, so as long as it’s completely covered by your glove, you’re good to go!
