  • photography.tutsplus.com/tutor... ▶ While Adobe Lightroom has the capability to import and cull images, it's not necessarily the best tool for the job. For high-volume photographers, like news and sports shooters, Photo Mechanic is the tool of choice. When every second counts, the speed and efficiency of Photo Mechanic's offload and review process is a big advantage. In this tutorial, you'll learn how to use Lightroom and Photo Mechanic in tandem for a fast, full-featured workflow.

    THIS is the video I needed! There's another guy on CZcams (kind of cranky in his responses), who will not answer the question about Lightroom. His response to the many questions about LR is "Why would you want to use PM and LR? Use LR to cull." Thank you for addressing the question that so many of us have. And you did a great job! thank you for this video, very helpful and i'm really enjoying using Lightroom a lot more now.
    I do have a Question, im not sure if its a LR or a PM Q. I shoot with a Nikon D610 and i like using the BW and Sephia mode that is present on the Camera itself. However, after importing the pictures to LR it no longer maintains the mode i shot but has them all has BWs... is there a way to maintain the BW/Sephia etc in LR?

    Thanks for the tips. Is there a way to add lightroom AND photoshop so I can select from a dropdown to send to?
    Also another tip I found: there is a preference in my PM to go to next photo after tagging or rating, makes culling much quicker as you don't have to advance to next photo it does it automagically.

    Question, use to I was able to right click in Photo Mechanic and select edit images in Lightroom. I was deleting stuff to make space on my computer and while I still have access to Lightroom and click edit photos with Lightroom, now nothing will open up. How do I change this so I can right click in Photo Mechanic again and edit in Lightroom as before?

    After warching the video many time I was able to get it to import the files selected but I had a issues. LR needed to be closed for the import to work otherwise it went to the import dialog window and asked for a source file.

    Great video, BUT....after importing the photos into Lightroom, Lightroom still has to render the previews etc. thus slowing the process down. You can't begin editing immediatelly. Am I correct?

    • @shifteleven
      @shifteleven Před 6 lety

      With the latest LR CC, you can tell LR to use the "Embedded & Sidecar" for previews. That should allow you to start editing faster.

    In minute 5:19 it is explained that you should mark all the desired pictures and then transfer them to Lightroom via "Images -> Edit Photos". But for me then only a desired image is marked in Lightroom, but not all of those previously marked in Photo Mechanic. What can that be?

      @@peggyschroderfotografie8206 "edit photos" doesn't work, at least not on PC. Just drag/drop instead. Not sure why that works and edit doesnt.

  • @pdebie1982
    @pdebie1982 Před 7 lety +1

    Another thing. When I select a couple of photos in PM and choose 'Edit Photos', Lightroom opens and shows the import dialog. Unfortunately the selected photos aren't checked in the Lightroom import window. Am I missing something? Maybe a setting?
    I've given the photos a 5 star rating, but that shouldn't be the cause. Even if I don't give them a rating it should check the ones in LR which I've selected in PM.

    Hi and thanks for your great video. I just have a problem : in "preferences" and then in "Launching"I dont know which folder I heve to select, in order to directly import the pictures into lighroom classic. I only found LR normal (lightroom.exe) but dont find the classic LR folder... How does it look like and where is it , as I have many LR folders in my external drive..(Catalogue lightroom 2-2Helper Dta, Previews.Irdata, Sync.Irdata etc..). Which one is the correct one ? Thanks for your help:-))

    (2017): Adobe changed how apps accept images from other applications.
    New work flow Photo Mechanic to Lightroom?
    Old way no longer working for me.
    Lightroom culling is now competitive, Photo Mechanic worth it?
    Cheers,
    Bill Harris

      @shifteleven Před 6 lety

      I'm not a photomechanic user, but LR is still much slower at culling photos. I now use Capture One and that's much faster and more responsive even when still creating the previews. I'm curious about using PM to just pull images off the SD card that I actually want. Plus, I hear PM can import from mutliple SD cards at a time.

    • @bossthefluff
      @bossthefluff Před 6 lety +1

      March 2018: Not sure what your exact problem is. However, I tried the video method today. Made sure I had both the apps updated (PM/LR). Worked 100% without a glitch according to instructions. LR is pre-selected in the Preferences/Launching window. Try selecting the app you want anyway, which is what I did. Even though it said LR, I went through the procedure anyway. I don't think Adobe cares. PM is like a Ferrari. Fast but packs only a duffel bag. LR is like a semi-truck, full of features and plenty packing room, but loading it takes time.

    I've tried linking Photo Mechanic to both Lightroom 5 and Lightroom CC. 2015 and it pulls all the images through and does not have the original selected files from photo mechanic selected? What could be wrong?

    This doesn't work. When you "edit photos" Lightroom only checks the first image selected in Photo Mechanic. Maybe on Mac it works, but not on PC with these versions.
