CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Frank (Jean-Claude Van Damme) uses a quarter trick to settle a dispute with Hossein (Bernard Mariano) over the affection of Janice (Leah Ayres).
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Jean-Claude Van Damme makes his starring debut in the aptly titled Bloodsport. An American soldier at large in Hong Kong, Van Damme becomes involved in the Kumite (also spelled Kumatai), a highly illegal kickboxing competition. Whoever survives the bout will be crowned Kumite champion of the world-a title that has plenty of challengers with homicide in their hearts. The finale offers a duel to the death (or near-death) between Van Damme and reigning Kumite king Bolo Yeung. The script is based on the real-life exploits of martial arts champ Frank Dux (who serves as the film's fight coordinator). Denied such niceties as production values, Bloodsport scores big-time in the violent action department. A sequel followed in 1995, inventively titled Bloodsport 2.

They were all fighters in a martial arts tournament where you can be killed plus they'd already seen Chong Li and some other intimidating looking fighters so the sight of Jackson probably wasn't a big deal to them.

It's a small detail but I always liked JCVD's movies often made it a point to explain why his American characters spoke with a thick accent. Here Frank was born in Belgium until his parents immigrated to the USA when he was a teenager.

I do not know whether any of you finally noticed that the coin had remained in Hossein's palm indeed. You can see the bracelet (probably made of gold), which was clearly visible on Sadiq's hand when Frank grabbed it (0:11-0:14) - thus thwarting Hossein's attempt to hit Janice from above. What is more, you can see a (lower) part of Dux's brown shirt opposite (or even slightly next to) the palm with the coin (1:31-1:34). Anyway, Frank had a different coin (silver-plated, instead of the gilded one) in his palm in the end (1:38-1:40).

I learned how to do this trick when I was little. It's honestly a case of the hand being quicker than the eye. Usually I would do it with the gold one dollar coin and people always thought they beat you until they looked in their hand. You just have to already have the coin in your hand prior to the trick, it's positioned in a way to make it easier for you to grab and when you hit their hand, the quarter bounces up in your hand while you place the dollar in there's. It's not that hard. Just takes a little bit of practice.

To those who are wondering: The first quarter is a 25 cent USA Quarter. Van Damme supposedly snatches it and replaces it with a 10 cent Hong Kong (Queen Elizabeth II crowned) coin.
No, the swap does not really occur in “real life.” If you play the sequence frame-by-frame in a video editor, you can see that all Van Damme does is slap his closed fist.
The actor is Bernard Mariano, who (ironically) became a successful Hong Kong magician. He has many interviews and web links online.
In a Mariano interview on CZcams, he claims he taught them this as a magic trick.
Yet another nod to Bruce Lee.

Before he could say go I grabbed the 20 with my left hand, threw the 5 on him, and took off running. I heard "Come back here or your grounded!" I acted like I didn't hear it and kept running. When I got back home I almost got a spanking, but my mom told him no because I won the bet, mind you it was a little shady. Still got grounded though for 2 weeks. So the trick is, the coin has one silver side and one gold side and Van-damme has another silver coin. He goes for his opponents coin , his opponent closes his hand not realising the coin flipping over in his hand from the silver to gold so when he opens it, he thinks Van Damme has swapped the coins even though VD said he would only take it, not swap.
