The 400m I thought was expected. NCAA athletes running deep into June after tapering for outdoor nationals especially in the 400m do not perform well in June at a Trials. Remember rubs from Arkansas along with Rosey. They are going sub 50 attempting to peak as early as early May for SECs. Not a massive shock a pro hit their stride at the right time. Interestingly it would have been the Arkansas trio that kept Butler off the SEC podium and that was one less sub 50 she had to expend not being in the college final.
You’re absolutely right on Quincy Wilson. It’s not like the nfl or a basketball athlete who may grow into their bodies only to enhance their existing skills . Sprint maintenance is a direct result of your body mechanics. If he “improves” his form or grows, it doesn’t mean he’ll get quicker necessarily. He may get stronger but that might affect how he moves his weight around the track. His body is designed to run as it is now. Kirani James was the exact same way except he was a bit more predictable in his progression though Quincy I think has the benefit of capitalizing like a stud under the brightest of lights. An incredible attribute for a quarter miler however it’ll be hard to replicate this. James of course became the youngest 400m world champ at just 18 years old. And his SB has only been above 44 seconds since that season he started doing 44 comfortably when he won gold in Daegu a total of just 3 times of a possible 13 .. and it was the year after he lost to WVN who had to break the world record to beat him. I suspect Quincy will find probably half a second over the next couple years but only if he can find competition consistently. unfortunately imo he’ll be at the whims of a lack of competition. He’s too fast for his own good this young. Unless he were to run in Europe or fully pro unattached all year but I would imagine he stays in the US going the normal HS to collegiate route. He’ll still be rapid but going this fast this young I think will be hard on his body oscillating from ultra elite to an eye watering 45 and change teenage phenom. Though as mention, James has managed to stay strong despite his rise but Kirani has some freakishly good genes with a solid long build suited for it. Quincy is Christian Coleman’s size.
Brooke legit blew my mind though I won’t lie. Yips hardcore .. hard to watch

Another stunning video from my fellow kiwi 🥝
What's happened to the proud history of the US men's long jump? Gone from world and Olympic champions Mike Powell, Carl Lewis and Dwight Phillips to today where not one US men's jumper has even qualified for the Olympics
Also I think it crazy that in 1991 the long standing long jump world record of 23 years by Bob Beamon was broken with 8.95m and yet 33 years later no one has broken 9m (or even come close) Yet to put this in perspective, the world record in the men's marathon in 1991 was 2:06 and they have gone sub 2 (unofficially) and 2:00 legally! No way anyone would have predicted that back then
So much on though, what's your thoughts on the strict Olympics selection policy? Crazy that defending Olympic champ Athing Mu in the 800m and world lead Brooke Anderson in the hammer throw won't even be on the start line! Any other country would be thrilled to have them on their team! Gotta luv Merica

Middle and long distance coaches need to coach their athletes to get up immediately after a fall like Mo Farrah did at the Rio Olympics. I'm not sayin Mu would have qualified but she could have had a chance if she rolled over and sprang into her stride rather than slowly sitting up then standing up while facing the wrong direction before continuing to run. The Olympic trials only come once every 4 years and you need to be prepared to handle any unfortunate situation your find yourself in. Hopefully they select Mu for the relay pool so she can still go to Paris. You'll find no remedial English courses or the like at that school. Personally, I'd rather they pick one of the top 6 finishers in the 400m who didn't fall down. As a Brit, I find the American system stupid. British Athletics have done some stupid stuff when it comes to sections the past few years but atleast they give World champions/medalists a free pass not to have to compete at the trials and still get a spot. Like for this year, Hughes who is injuried isnt running at the trials but is given a spot due to him getting Bronze at the Worlds last year, or Hudson-Smith who has chosen to run the 200m at the trials due to his 2nd at the Worlds in the 400m he gets an automatic place, then Kerr technically doesnt need to run in the 1500m due to him winning the Worlds.
It makes more sense to me to allow the top athletes a free entry than force them to run and lose out on the big names not making the team.

There’s a lot of “ unsportsmanlike conduct”lots of shoving in the big heats. Maybe there should be smaller heats in the mid/long distance because it could result in a career ending injury and some people just play dirty and don’t care. There’s too much riding on making the Olympics because being PRO T&F pays so little gets such little support in the off years.

I don't understand Hendricks' position. If you don't like Team USA, why are you competing in the trials? You're hogging up a spot on a team when other athletes want to go to Paris. I don't know the full context of his dispute so I won't be harsh about him, but let the others have a chance to make the team if you don't want to go.

Context: Sam Kendricks made the 2021 Tokyo Olympic team. However, he was unvaccinated, and didn't practice social distancing or proper masking practices. He tested positive for COVID before the pole vault competition and was put into quarantine by Japanese officials and couldn't compete. Then in 2022 (according to Kendricks) he wasn't allowed to compete in world for once again not being vaccinated. However, Kendricks agent says it was because he was still healing from a surgery.
Through all of this he blames Team USA for him being put in quarantine and not being allowed to compete say things like, "I’m from the United States of America. I don’t do anything I don’t want to. I live free.”

Athing Mu was not an upset. In fact, it could never be conclusively determined either way whether it was sabotage. With no provisions for accounting for acts of God, accidents, animals, or anything else out of the participant's control, the U.S.A. will not necessarily be sending their best. They will just be sending the fortunate. Sure, Mu could have run farther on an outside lane, but if that is the only strategy available to hopefully avoid collisions (which could be intentional, keep in mind), you might as well have everyone run in their lane for all 2 laps. Then, lane interference would have considerations which common lane running does not.

Yep, you don't understand!!! Peacock had shown US Olympic trials and fields ... Olympics trials are FIERCE and COMPETITIVE, and whoever met first, second, and third places only mattered regardless of what their score for now; if Kendrick decided not 🚭🚫 to go then there is his replacement: there is the 4th and 5th places so then way did he compete?!! He could have stayed home instead for that foolish comment: there is always someone to take your place: foolish comment, and he was not 🚭🚫 obligated to compete... usually, an athletes have to meet the requirements and the requisite to be invited and involved for Worlds and the Olympics, so therefore, it can be traumatic if under pressure for yourself... It's 90% mentally,, emotionally, then physically as an athlete... I usually expect the unexpected and there would be the agony of defeat.. but that's a another lesson learned to come out better for Coleman, Mu, Collins, and others.. but thanks for sharing though!!!!

I know the USA's Olympic/world qualis lend themselves to drama, but I really think it's time to consider some contingency for situations like Athing Mu. If she had been outpaced (such as Coleman) then fair enough, but to be prevented from defending her title because of something out of her control in _one race?_ Just doesn't sit right.

She wasn't at a great level , but it was interesting to see her start with the 2:01 and then make it to 1:58.8.
