- "L'estaca" (The Stake) is a song by Lluís Llach that calls for the freedom of the Catalan people from the Francoist dictatorship that ruled in Spain from 1936 to 1975. It's from the perspective of a grandson talking to his grandfather about a metaphorical stake that they're tied to, representing the yoke under which the people of Spain lived.
L'avi Siset em parlava
De bon matí al portal,
Mentre el sol esperàvem
I els carros vèiem passar.
«Siset, que no veus l'estaca
On estem tots lligats?
Si no podem desfe'ns-en,
Mai no podrem caminar!
Si estirem tots, ella caurà
I molt de temps no pot durar,
Segur que tomba, tomba, tomba;
Ben corcada deu ser ja.
Si jo l'estiro fort per aquí
I tu l'estires fort per allà,
Segur que tomba, tomba, tomba,
I ens podrem alliberar.»
P'rò, Siset, fa molt temps ja,
Les mans se'm van escorxant,
I quan la força se me'n va
Ella és més ampla i més gran.
Ben cert sé que està podrida,
P'rò és que, Siset, pesa tant,
Que a cops la força m'oblida;
Torna'm a dir el teu cant:
«Si estirem tots, ella caurà
I molt de temps no pot durar,
Segur que tomba, tomba, tomba
Ben corcada deu ser ja.
Si jo l'estiro fort per aquí
I tu l'estires fort per allà,
Segur que tomba, tomba, tomba,
I ens podrem alliberar.» - Hudba
Què bonica és la llengua catalana, salutacions des del País Basc...

"Si tu l'estires fort per aquí, i jo l'estiro fort per allà, segur que tomba, tomba, tomba, i ens podrem alliberar"
Such powerful lyrics
Greetings from Kurdistan to Catalonia
We Kurds and Catalans are brothers on the path of freedom

Just learnt that it is original tune! I know polish song with same tune of anti communist protestors in Poland, which is called "Mury" ("Walls"), and during protests in Belarus of 2020 this tune was also quite popular. Basically belarussian version is translation of Polish, but also quite decent. If you are interested, I recommend you to hear "Муры" of Вольны хор.
The song is still being used at rallies nowadays and is quite prominent in the pro-independence moment with the song author being a relevant participant in it
До слёз.
Such a powerful and beautiful song...
Visca Catalunya i visca la llibertat! Thanks for this song, much needed in a time when peaceful protestors are treated as terrorists by a repressive Spanish state.
May democracy forever exist and may tyrants always be frowned upon!
Love Catalonia from Italy 🇮🇹❤🟥🟨🟥🟨🟥🟨🟥 (sorry my spanish fellas)
If you love Catalonia, you love Spain, so don't worry.
@@danielescalantedemedeiros. ok
Any decent Castilian understands the struggle for freedom of the Catalan people (sadly not a lot but they certainly exist)
Catalan is one of my favourite languages, sounds super nice
Love From Indonesia 🇮🇩
I knew the Corsican version, "Catena", by Chjami Aghjálesi, but not the original one!
Was this used during the end of francoism?
Yes. It was originally created in 1968

Could you upload some Finnish songs?
Been planning to
@@roedagardet awesome!! Finnish groups released a lot of good stuff in the 70s and almost nobody uploads it
Please do the Kingdom of Syria. The song is ''O Syria who owns the glory.'' Or ''سورية يا زات المجد''
made me start catalan on duolingo (you need to know a good amount of spanish tho)
Sorry, but Catalan is more similar to Old French than Spanish. As a French speaker, I can understand written Catalan.
No it’s because Catalan is only available for Spanish speakers on Duolingo
@@DesirousCrown84 Very interesting information, thank you. It's somewhat surprising for Duolingo to limit learning Catalan to Spanish speakers. Afterall Catalan & French are mutually intelligible, as they share 80% of vocabulary., and they live side by side!
