"L'estaca" - Catalan Pro-Democracy Song

"L'estaca" (The Stake) is a song by Lluís Llach that calls for the freedom of the Catalan people from the Francoist dictatorship that ruled in Spain from 1936 to 1975. It's from the perspective of a grandson talking to his grandfather about a metaphorical stake that they're tied to, representing the yoke under which the people of Spain lived.

Just learnt that it is original tune! I know polish song with same tune of anti communist protestors in Poland, which is called "Mury" ("Walls"), and during protests in Belarus of 2020 this tune was also quite popular. Basically belarussian version is translation of Polish, but also quite decent. If you are interested, I recommend you to hear "Муры" of Вольны хор.

@@DesirousCrown84 Very interesting information, thank you. It's somewhat surprising for Duolingo to limit learning Catalan to Spanish speakers. Afterall Catalan & French are mutually intelligible, as they share 80% of vocabulary., and they live side by side!
