    I just got one of these! It was the backup machine for an upholstery business. Planning to make jeans with it, they didn’t know what the 2nd button did so thanks for sharing!

    Thank you for the helpful video. Now I am able to sew with my '53 111-154. One detail left out was the needle orientation (notch on the right). This may lead to thread breaking. I collect the squeakers our dogs remove from toys and sew them in scraps of leather from discarded furniture.

      Thanks. Good extra info too! Great idea with the squeakers.

    WOW! that was sooooooo helpful. Thank you,, I must have the speedy motor with a foot pedal, it say's rpm 3000, it is scary fast so I have to figure out how and where to change motor? Or? Again thank you so much. I can't wait to get this little baby dialed in. Even a 70 Y/O man can get excited about sewing. Cheers

      Awesome, happy to help. Yes you probably should change out the motor or just learn how to so lightly feather the pedal and use the motor you have.

      I plan to put a servo on mine. I hear the cheap ones on ebay aren't very good and you should get a good servo like the one that Sailrite sells. That's my plan.

    Derek I like the videos and I just got this machine and tension adjustment has locked the bobbin hold up. It knock the clutch out but I fixed that. The basket will move if I have the foot plate off but when I put it back on it won’t move. Help! Please!

      Hi, Thanks for watching. Make sure that little extended piece on the bobbin goes in the notch on the plate?

    • @derekdoeschannel

      slide out the covers on either side of the needle, use a screwdriver to pry up the little bar that holds the bobbins in place and they pop out.

    Went to use my Singer 111w155 today and for some unknown reason it is sewing backwards. Just used it two weeks ago with no issues. What changed and can I fix it. Help!

    • @derekdoeschannel
      @derekdoeschannel  Před 2 měsíci +1

      did you accidently reverse your motor?
      The machine would never sew backwards unless the belt is going the wrong direction.

    • @rp4609
      @rp4609 Před měsícem

      You likely have one with a servo motor. Servo motors have settings that allow you to set the rotation direction. Change the settings on the motor back to what it was before.

    Great video. I’m picking up a 111 G 117 tomorrow. I think it works like the 155??
    I’m not sure if it is a triple action walking foot or a needle action? I also have an ADLER 467 and it’s a beast! Thanks for the video.

    I have a Singer 61 W1 that was modified to do pick stitch, pin point or “saddle stitch” and the feed dogs are not moving back and forth only up and down 😢trying to figure out which screw to loosen. I have not found a proper manual for this machine. I found that Singer or Simanco produced special order machines like this one and have a order plate and name of company it was done for on it. Machine had plate that says “Butte Knit”with a # Butte Knit was a division of the Jonathan Logan Corporation, which was, in the 1960s, the largest manufacturer of women’s clothing in the world. Butte Knit was established by David Schwartz in 1959 in Spartanburg, South Carolina. It was the first company to produce doubleknit fabric in the US. I would love if you or anyone could help me with options to fix that feed dog. ❤ new subscriber here 😊

      Hi and thank you for subscribing! I'm not that familiar with this model to help fix it but maybe someone on here is. Great history on the machine though. I always love to hear about the "story" of each machine.

    What should we search for that slower motor?

    I am unable to change the stitch length. When I depress the button, the fly wheel is extremely difficult to move. Can you tell me what area I need to oil?

    • @derekdoeschannel
      @derekdoeschannel  Před rokem

      I literally oil it anywhere a metal part moves. Hit all the holes, but also oil any moving part. Both top and bottom. Let it soak in too for at least a day. Use sewing machine oil too.

    How much tension tdo these machines need? Mine seems to need a lot of tension, and then the thread breaks. I'll change needlse and thread and try again, hoping that works.

    • @derekdoeschannel
      @derekdoeschannel  Před rokem

      It depends on what your sewing, but over all I pull on the thread before it goes through the needle and if it pulls easy it's not enough. It should have some tension for sure when you pull but it shouldn't be super difficult.

  • @ArtisanLisaLeeofBoston

    What about tension adjustment?

    How would you troubleshoot bottom thread bunching? I tried tightening the top tension but didn’t really do much at all

    • @derekdoeschannel
      @derekdoeschannel  Před rokem

      Check that your bobbin is wound tightly, and try using a new needle too.

      @@derekdoeschannel I'd like to know how to get thread in it, the appropriate winding direction, and if there are any size limitations of the thread. I have this sewing machine, am going to use it for making tool pouches with leather, and have waxed nylon thread. Thank You

    My 111 keeps breaking the tread

    • @derekdoeschannel
      @derekdoeschannel  Před 11 měsíci

      Lots of things to check. Make sure your tension is correct, or you're using the correct size thread or old thread, or your needle is dull or out of time that cuts the tread. Also make sure it's treaded correctly.
