Recently, TellTale Games (the game development company behind The Walking Dead & The Wolf Among Us) announced that they would be shutting down. And this was a huge shock to the gaming community! So, in today's episode of A Brief History, we take a look at where TellTale started, how they helped revolutionize an entire genre of gaming, and how it all abruptly ended.

It’s crazy how deep into my childhood telltale goes without me even knowing, I played both bone and csi:hard evidence religiously and never ever knew they were connected to telltale until wayyyy later

What nostalgia? The only good games from telltale were walking dead season 1 (tons of nostalgia there), wolf among us (same as season 1 of walking dead), the two seasons of Batman and tales from the borderlands. Walking dead season 2 started off great but got so much worse and the final season was decent at best and mediocre at worst and wasn’t even finished by telltale. Everything else from telltale was just white noise.
Such a sad, closing. And a legendary company.
Made some of the best games ever.
Also Minecraft Storymode Season 1 was one of their best games don’t @ me.
Rest In Peace Poker Night at the Inventory, it went under the radar but I really liked both of the games and not just for the items for tf2. The characters were pretty funny and it’s cool to see a cartoon character, a comic character, and video game heroes and villains interacts.
Now it is back With THE WOLF AMOUNG US 2 !!
Honestly the games produced were incredible, they will be remembered even with all the crap popping up.
If only they'd been more careful with how many people they hired, they might still be here.

Tales from the Borderlands will ALWAYS be the best of the Telltale games in my eyes. It's one concise game (not multiple games like TWD), has an amazing story, great character development and acting, and hilarious moments. It's such a damn shame that the game was so overlooked because it's one of, if not the best story told in the Borderlands series.

I'll admit though I definitely sucking this games dick waaaaaaay too much. While I do stand by Tales from the Borderlands being a good game and one of the 3 best TellTale games (TWD Season 1 and The Wolf Among Us being the others) some of its "lol how random" jokes have not aged well and it has a several really stupid moments. That being said the characters (specifically Loaderbot and Rhys) are really good and very enjoyable and overall it tells a really good side story to the Borderlands series that I think deserves more credit then it's given

I'm glad people are remembering Telltale. My father lost his job because of the company closing. I was also already invested in the games they had to offer, mainly the Walking Dead games.
Actually, it's been theorized that Telltale ended up closing because their games weren't selling due to CZcams lets players uploading their journey throughout the game and while yes, the games themselves have multiple ways to play, generally when you play most of their games once, you've played the majority of what it had to offer. So of course, someone's favorite CZcamsr plays the game, they watch it, and then they're done. They don't go out and buy it and play it for themselves. I know that the games not selling is not new information, but I think people forget the effect that social media such as CZcams has on the market. I'm not at all saying that CZcams is evil and what not, just that the climate has changed and Telltale just simply was not able to keep up with that change.
You said in your video that the closure shocked the general public and let me tell you, it was a shock to the company and the employees too. As you said, it did go from 0 to 100 real quick.
However, adding to what you said about Telltale treating employees poorly, they did treat my father well if that means anything to anyone.
He actually received a decent chunk of help when it came to finding a new job afterwards, at least compared to how other companies have treated him. They set up job fairs that helped those who were laid off find companies that would take them and that's more than the majority of other companies will ever do.
Telltale's supposed poor treatment of their employees is really nothing new when it comes to the industry.
People get laid off with no money, no help, and even threats to ruin their reputation all the time.

There is actually a New trailer For Wolf Among Us 2 Which will be out in 2021 I know this video was a year ago so It wasnt out yet.Some people believe that they are back in buisness..? The first Telltale game that I ever played was The Walking Dead and I LOVED IT!!! And up to this date, TWD is still one of my favourite games of all time! I even played Wolf Among Us and the first episode of Minecraft! When the second season of TWD came out I was so excited and I bought all the episodes as soon as they came out! But then.... they started to make so many games out of non-original franchises and I kinda lost interest on their games... Even when season 3 of TWD came out, I wasn’t even that excited anymore! Specially because the main character wasn’t Clementine! I bought the TWD collection and I played season 3 anyways which was my least favourite... And even now, I haven’t even played the last season of TWD cuz I have lost interest! I feel like telltale games stopped caring about making great games and they focused on making lots of games based on popular franchises just to make money! :/
oh the fourth season of TWD is absolutely much better than the third season. i suggest playing it, or watching a gamer play it.
season 4 actually fixed everything wrong with season 3, the first 2 episodes were done by the same people as The second season of Batman ((Which was good even if it dint get that much attention.)) and one of the writers was also the lead writer for episode 4 of season 1. So yeah i suggest watching someone play it or playing it yourself, Anyway the story probably wont lose anything even after what happened since Skybound s apparently bringing some of the employees back and the story for every episode was finished before the company went bankrupt.
Oh bOi S4 is much better, and the care put into it is huge.

This is something I've been waiting for since I discovered this series.
Honestly bless you for mentioning the Bone games, even if it was only for a few seconds. Though Out from Boneville and The Great Cow Race got mixed reviews(understandably so, seeing as they were TTG's first real games and while they tried to stay true to the comics they had some difficulty(example: there's no snow in the game while in the book Fone has to go through a winter before meeting Thorn) and of course the graphics weren't too good either but hey it was a game from 2005/2006), I personally enjoy the games mainly due to my love for the comic. I'm a little sad that Sam & Max Beyond Time and Space and The Devil's Playhouse didn't get a bit more attention, primarily because The Devil's Playhouse became one of my top 10 favorite games of all time after I finished it due to it's story and characters, as well as season 2 just all around being pretty good, but nonetheless this is a good video and gives a good brief history of the company and their games!

(Sigh) Telltale Games was the company that introduced me to Sam & Max - they became my all-time favorite comic book/videogame duo. I'll admit that I was bitter when they announced that they had no more plans for the duo before the closing, but I'm still sad to see the company go :(

walking dead and tales of the borderlands were their funnest/best games for me. i watched all the walking dead games on yogscast hannahs channel but actually got to play tales from the borderlands myself ( afterwards i then binged hannahs and jacksepticeyes playthroughs). and as much as the games did stale at the end like you said, you can't inlcude borderlands and walking dead here as i feel that the only thing to do with the pre existing border lands games was, characters like athena and handsom jack and locations like helios. apart from that its a completely original game and story with fun quirky characters that i remember fondly
