    Its funny that the only people who experienced paranormal activity were the ones who financially benifited from it. The ones who didn't, not so much.

      Indeed.
      Not unlike the curious manner in which demons and "devils" only ever possess the devout, whilst seemingly leaving Atheists completely alone.

    So said the King❤ In his summation of the film, King writes, “the main reason that people went to it, I think, is that The Amityville Horror, beneath its ghost-story exterior, is really a financial demolition derby. The house steals money ffs❤

    I believe they got in over their head, thinking they could get a really nice decent quality luxury property in Long Island for a good price, and they did. What I think is that knowing they could possibly make money from pushing the haunting story based on the fame of the house where a family was murdered, they attempted to do so. They also probably did this to compensate the finances that they were lacking to actually be able to afford the house payments. So they got this story going, made some money but too late to keep the home, beside they'd HAVE TO MOVE if it was to be believed that the house was all that haunted and horrifying.
    A few years ago the house came up for sale again, a friend in NYC went to look at it, it's been slightly remodeled, it's nice but also old, and while they liked it, they decided against it for one reason alone - the fame of the house. They didn't want people lurking on the property or trying to take photos of it all the time, etc. As in they didn't care so much that murders took place or that it is the Amityville Horror house, just more that the lack of privacy from others obsessions with it meant it wasn't a good fit. We joke about it that they could make a lot of money doing the same thing, except by offering tours of the home rather than being like "Its haunted" more of a "Look, it's nothing like you expect, it's not haunted at all"

    The Lutz, and first Author couldn't agree how to split the book deal money, so they split ways, but the writer ended up writing the book without consent.
    They later settled outside court. They found a new writer who agreed to the splitting of the money.
    Money! Naturally it was all about the money. The original story of how the young man killed his fam was true, but the possessions, ghostly stories?
    Manufactured to get them out of filling bankruptcy for buying a house they couldn't afford.
    Very smart, but very untrue. Just my opinion.

    I was given the book for my birthday when this was all brand new. Since then, we have learned that Amityville was a hoax. The murders were the only real thing that happened. The Lutzes knew about the murders and even kept some of the DeFeo furniture. No one who has lived in the house since has ever had ANY paranormal issues. None. The movie took the 'haunting' to the ridiculous levels. The children suffered the most. They told over and over that all of this happened. Kids are easily manipulated by adults and the boys seem to believe this all happened today. The Warrens were nothing but grifters who showed up at 'haunting' to get their name out there and make money. All the photos the Warrens took have long since been debunked.(fun fact - The Warrens showed up at Enfield and were told to go away, yet the Warrens claim they were a huge part of the investigation). Of course the Lutzes stuck to their story. You don't want to look stupid as time goes on, so you stick to the script and let the interviews die off.

    I met George Lutz at a horror convention in the early 2000's before he passed away. He was friends with a paranormal radio host on the east coast who was also at the convention. I was still on the fence about the whole thing even though I loved the book and the movie. After I heard him talk, I got a sense that everything he talked about and experienced was true. I have a great BS detector, and got no sense of BS from him. The thing that sealed it for me was that I had brought my copy of Amityville Horror and he signed it, no cost. There were plenty of other horror stars there at the same convention charging for everything. If he was in it for financial stuff, why didn't he charge?

    • @gusmonster59
      @gusmonster59 Před měsícem

      When you have years behind you telling the same lie, you get very good at it. He got paid to be at that convention. He was still making some money off his story. No, this was all made up. It has been debunked over and over again. Everything the Warrens did has also been debunked. Not all celebrities charge for autographs. Micheal Dorn's (Worf), Marina Sirtis, Jonathan Frakes don't charge for autographs either. They get PAID to be at the conventions.

    It’s actually relatively easy to debunk just about anything but I worked with someone once who had family next door to them and they experienced it. Also there’s a doc about George’s step son that has some compelling moments in it. The mistake most people make is to discount everything because of a few embellishments.

    • @gusmonster59
      @gusmonster59 Před měsícem

      I've seen that documentary. I also know that children are easily manipulated by adults. You tell them something happened enough times, they will believe for the rest of their lives. The information you got was third hand - from family to this person to you. How much of that was embellished? Not saying your coworker was fibbing, but people tell stories to make themselves look good or look interesting.

    • @bekindrewind335
      @bekindrewind335 Před 2 měsíci +2

      Yes, one of the sons came forward and said none of it happened. Also, the author of the book realized after interviewing the Lutz family that not only were their stories inconsistent and didn’t make sense, but the parents were also clearly under the influence of drugs or alcohol. I believe it was the publisher that told him, “Make it up and make it scary.”
      I’m pretty sure I also read that the parents were involved in other scams in the years after, including the wife pretending to be a psychic medium.

  • @cherylbradley5356
    @cherylbradley5356 Před měsícem +1

    After watching so many ghost hunting shows over the years, I wonder if someone in this family was a sensitive or a medium? I understand that people like this can draw things to them and people that are not, just do not experience it. If so, maybe that would explain Some of the haunting but not the extreme version from the book/movie. So many dead bodies in one house? IDK. Just a thought.

    For those who think the Lutzs made this story up you need to get your heads out of your arxces , in this world we live in there are certain things which are unexplaineable and certain people have gone through the paranormal and there are plenty of people even now that have gone through this kind of thing, here in England there are so many places that are haunted and people have given first hand accounts of their experiences , the Lutzs child are grown up now and are in their 50 s even the sons of Kathy Lutz have given interviews in few documentaries of their 28 days of living in that house, the Lutzs had no deals with any film companies or anything similar, they have given countless interviews of their experiences and what went on in that house, until it happens to you you will never know.
