I find it funny that when Taylor writes a lyric we immediately try to connect to something we have witnessed. She has so many private moments that no one sees and it’s highly probable that some of these lyrics are from memories with no witnesses. It is very possible when she is talking about dancing in New York with no shoes, that it wasn’t caught on camera. The dance you talk about here, she has shoes on, so it’s doubtful it’s that particular dance. Especially when in “Getaway Car” Taylor seems to say that particular relationship was meaningless to her and was just an escape from another failed relationship.

I wouldn't be surprised if both of those divorces may have inspired the song, but I don't think it's about either of them for the simple fact that both of those women have been publicly terrible to Taylor. I can't imagine her considering being "thick as thieves" with anyone woman who treated her so badly. Who knows, maybe one, or both of them apologized to her and their are friendly now. Kim did intentionally cause snake-gate, and Yael wrote a pretty disgusting public letter to Taylor because Taylor had said she was grossed out by the fact that Scooter owed her masters. She actual had the nerve to claim that Taylor had no self respect and that her husband cared more about Taylor than Taylor cares about herself, and that TS collects and throws away friends like wilted flowers, are a few tid bits, there was much more. It's a very common scenario ( men cheating on the wives) could be about anyone, or no one in particular. It's an amusing song either way, and gets people speculating.

To me the lyrics honestly sound like they're about someone she dated as a young teen shortly before moving to Nashville, who stayed in her hometown and isn't in the public eye. "My town was a wasteland... but for some it was paradise," "he never thinks of me except for when I'm on TV," etc. all point towards that for me.
Especially since it immediately follows a song that starts off being about an unrequited childhood crush. Together they tell a story--she might have stayed there for YOYOK boy, ended up dating MR boy instead but wouldn't stay there for him.
IDK, maybe there are parallels with later relationships in the song too, but that's how it reads at face value to me.

She could have danced shoeless with anyone in New York, but to me it seems obvious who this one is about. When TS wrote Karma, she probably had a few people in mind, but just going on actual lyrics, I think "spider boy, king of thieves...my pennies made your crown" alludes to Scott Borchetta, due to him not offering her a chance to purchase her masters, and then going to sell them behind her back to a person (Scooter) he knew, would be her worst nightmare. Or it could be Scooter, as he has profited off her "pennies" as well.
Taylor made fun of Kim in her Anti Hero video, Vigilante Shit isn't about Kanye. It's likely about Scooter Braun.

Love all Taylor’s music and lyrics BUT WHY O WHY has she used swearing foul language on Midnights ??! She ruined this album by using the Fword ! My young grandchildren do not need to hear the f-word on her brilliant music . So disappointed and outraged !

I really need to know if I am the only one who....is sick of this Easter eggs and all of that... okay, do not come for me swifties.... Adore her all you want, she is just not my cup of tea. I do not wish to hate, but I've never gotten the appeal of her music or she herself. I do think she is a great businesswoman, a great songwriter/ lyricst, smart marketing person and all of that, very hardworking..you know she is not who she is by being nobody special, I think she works her butt off, and seems like a sweet girl, but God her music always seems so flat and boring to me...and also vocally, I do think she sings well, its just not ...showstopping. I think she is this powerhouse because of all of her other talents and strengthts, and obviously people love the Easter eggs, but to me this is such a distraction from music itself (I know people find it the opposite - an exciting addition), but I feel like she is just trying to hype her fanbase and it's more business than anything else ....and people are overly crazy ...like she posts something and they go batshit like....it's a red heart and it is this specific red which is so close to the shade of that other picture so they are related and this date and that... it's very childish to me...sorry guys, I respect her but find her music boring and these Easter eggs too childish. Anyone else feeling that way?
I don't agree, but I can understand everything you are saying. I pretty much hate all pop music, dance music, electronic music, synth music & country, so by rights I shouldn't like Taylor. I did a deep dive into her discography a few years back, and over the few weeks that I went over everything she had ever done and I slowly fell in love with her music. I still don't like those genres of music, but I end up loving everything she does. And yes she is often very corny and childish, but I love that she has the courage to go there. Most artists strive for coolness above all else. Taylor is and always has been aware of the fact that she is not cool, edgy, or sexy. She stated it in early 2010's. She is being herself. At least you respect some aspects of her. Anyway, it would be kind of weird if everybody loved her music, so no one should rag on you for expressing your dislike in a polite manner. Maybe someday you will have a change of heart as I did. I listen to some really raunchy obnoxious music usually, yet I love Taylor who is the polar opposite to "my kind of music". I liked the way you expressed your self even though I no longer agree with you, but I relate because I used to kind of agree, if that makes sense.
