Kumihimo paracord dog leash- a bit fancy

  • In this video I show you how to braid a Kumihimo dog leash out of paracord. I like how the leash turned out :). Most of the leash is relatively easy to make, the hard part is the fancy covering knot tied at the end. You can easily replace the knot using a Foot rope knot, Matthew Walker knot, a Diamond knot and many others.

    If you always leave 3 strands at the bottom of the disk when you put it down, you always know which thread to move next. Great video.

    When taking a break, I often bring a top right down first. This leaves 3 strands at the bottom and I know where to start back with a bottom left up to the top.

    Kumihimo is my favorite way to make leashes. So many style options and they're very sturdy. If I can get the hang of making the handle cover, that would be perfect.

      @Paracordguild  Před 3 lety +4

      Hey!
      Indeed, kumihimo is very useful for leashes! The decorative knot is the challenging part, but it is doable. You can also use a Footrope knot, Matthew Walker knot, Star knot or many others.

    suggestion if you think that four strands coming through your snap hook looks a little sparse: i add two extra one foot pieces of cord looped onto the snap hook and use it as a core, weaving the first part of my braid around it, which gives me 6 cords over my snap hook.
    when i make a collar with this braid on my kumihimo disk, i run the added core all the way through the center of the braid, just braiding around the core. for my big dog, the resulting thicker collar is more proportional and pleasing.

      Started mine last night and made it through about 2ft of leash. Quick question that I wasn't able to learn from the video - how much rope do you need at the end before starting the decorative knot? I'm guessing 2feet by the video, but would be nice to know the recommended minimum length needed before getting to that point.

    Your work is nice but my design is a fair bit different. The way he installs his hardware at the start is harder than it has to be. Mine are made to where either end can be used to attach to the dog. One with a clip and the other end as a slip lead
