as an owner of a 50-70 lets take a moment to appreciate how many 50-70 cases he had to procure or make to make this string of fire possible makes my wallet hurt thinking about it
It didn't suck that weapon is pretty heavy so you did well. Let the couch jockeys try to do better lol 😂 thank you for sharing this enjoyable video with us six stars brother
Those old rifles just got that magic you don’t feel in a plastic and aluminum rifle. You are igniting my terrible addiction for old guns . I wish I could buy black powder here in Alaska, maybe it’s time I make a batch or get in contact with a muzzleloader group. This was nice to watch, gets me daydreaming about shooting.
Pretty good shooting. I need to secure some Swiss powder for my muzzleloaders so I can get off 4 shots without swabbing and see how I measure up. Thank you for the great content.
Excellent Smithers. It's always a pleasure to watch your videos. I really like it when you embrace the spirit of the Cabin Fever Challenge. You are an inspiration to the legions of frontiersmen who still exist today. Facta non Verba
I’d say you preddy much plum peppered that target Jake! I did miss the smokin of black powder though but I ain’t complaining! Good Shootin and Kind Thanks! DaveyJO in Pennsylvania
I have a '66 2nd Allen that I may have to put a few through, although it is pretty worn. I usually shoot my NYS roller. I haven't had it out in 10 yrs.

Swiss is around 59.99 lb here+ shipping and hmat fee's way to much so thanks for the information lot's of 1/2" and 3/8" roller bearings brass. So in a few weeks I'll make 1 lb and hopefully I get everything right sounds like a good time got to get up to Maine and do it were nobody cares. So I'll let you know how it comes out.
I may have to try some blackpowder loads with my 45-70 encore pistol, may be fun. Im currently shooting 312gn pp bullet with 32gn accurate 5744. Might be cool to see if i get more consistency from blackpowder.
Personally. I think your rate of fire was on par with someone using a Martini Henry, furthering my belief that the Trapdoor was the best “stop gap” musket conversion of the 19th century.
yeah BP would be better Im sure. Youd just need a wee bit of breeze otherwise it might mess with your time not being able to see the target for smoke. 🙂The smokeless loads out of the lyman book I have seem to have big flyer potential, well for me anyway. There were some really good shots in that string though
What is the range to the target? It looks like about 1 hundred yards but I can't tell. It definitely looks like a fun challenge. Thank you for sharing Jake.
I had confidence in you,son . Still do. You may not get it the next time nor the 5th or 10th time after but when you need to you will. Do not try.... Do!(you will you know) 😁 (
duplex loads, best of both worlds. My sharps doesn't like smokeless, hard to hit the broad side of a barn, I don't think the rifling twist agrees with the slower traveling loads. tack driver with BP. still, looks like you had fun. that's what it's about.
I would love to try this with my 1864 Trapdoor but I can't get any 50-70 ammo anywhere and I can't even get the materials to reload for it! It also doesn't help I don't know have any experience reloading. A real bummer.
did they change the date i thought they ran the challenge in Feb? and Jake, on the toilet paper charcoal do you mill it or just crush it down and use it, the stuff i make falls apart so easy i just put it in a ziplock and crush it up then weigh it out!
At what range was this? I'd bet the barrel was slightly above room temperatue... There was a battle between the Brittish heathens and the Zulus in South Africa once. The name slipped my mind. Might have been Izondluvu or some such. The Brits used Martini-Henry rifles. (.450/577. Basically a necked down .577 snider case. Very close to the 45/70. It used a .45 bullet of 450 grain with 70 grain of BP. Or there abouts) The battle went on so long, that the Martini Henreys got hot to the point where, after chaimbering a round, it would "cook off" in the barrel😮 I dont know the auto-ignition temperature of BP, but I think I am safe to assume the barrels were red hot, at the time.
Meh. Shooting timed events is always a bear. There is a very fine line between losing points for time and losing points on accuracy… and in my world you’re much better off being accurate than being fast. But - the CFC is still a great exercise and you did more than well enough!

I counted 10 in the black.3 in the bull. Had to watch the video real close somewhere in the same hole
Stick with the b.p. loads. 🤣
I am surprised the 10 gr. Unique loads made it to the target, seems kind of light.
Thanks for sharing.👍
Notice how the misses were low. 2/3rds of the bullets were falling out of the air just before they hit the target lol
yeah, my 50/90 shoots for crap with smokeless.
Nice run. And thanks to CFC for introducing me to your channel, I've been deep diving through your catalog in the last few weeks
Thank you
These are the kind of rifles that really won the West.
And men like you who knew how to use them.👍
That is a super cool old gun. It's so amazing to see them still shooting so nicely. Good job
Thank you
job well done - great result even you you may not fully agree :) Brilliant!
Thank you
Good shooting and a great video. God Bless. NW ga.
I happen to have one of those 50-70 trapdoors. Took a small deer with it.
I know it might be impossible but I would love to see all the people who took part in this fun challenge get together. Now that would be a party !
My friend that is still good shooting from an 1868 Trapdoor Rifle.....Thanks very much......
Old F-4 Shoe🇺🇸
Thank you, I’m glad someone thinks so

Try 34 grains or so of Reloader7. Great .45-70 and .50-70 load for trap door. ;)

Very educational, thank you.
just bought a trapdoor real cheap at an estate sale, waiting on reloading stuff too come in the mail so I can take it out and shoot it
Nicely done as always. Still hoping and pleading for a trapdoor & snider cleaning videos
Nice. I am on the hunt for a 1863+ 45/70.

The shot touching paper at the eight o'clock position is two shots. You can see it in the video (barely, but yes).
Good video
L o l not gonna lie that paper gets pretty small out there at a hundred

Not bad for rapid fire, mostly offhand at that distance. Tactically it would have been uncomfortable down there.
Me thinks I should dig the .50-70 rolling block out and give this a try. Is there a seniors division 😊
You should. Division 4 is always in need of entries.
Damn...... I had 20 bucks on you, Jake. Oh well. There's always next time. Still not too shabby.
😂 you should’ve talked to me first. I would’ve told you that was a bad idea.

I haven’t tried any duplex 50-70 but I should!
@@Everythingblackpowder I agree, you should! I'm here for it too.
I like it

Smokeless loads?! Thought the name of the channel was "Everything Black Powder". 😉😎

Good to see you I thought the matrix got you like they did Tate
lol not yet. We will return to our regular schedule program this Friday

BP or 5744, I looked for 5744 loads but didn't find any, they are out there.
You shoot better standing than sitting.
If you had used black powder, your time would have been higher, waiting for the smoke to clear.
Wait . Wait .
all the smoke & NO
home made what's that called
propellent?
Waaaa smokeless???? :-/ :-(
Good Work .. but must try harder ...
🤷♂️
don't chamber those cartridges without cleaning them after they've been lying in the dirt like that mate, it's gonna scratch the barrel
Try it with BP ?
did they change the date i thought they ran the challenge in Feb? and Jake, on the toilet paper charcoal do you mill it or just crush it down and use it, the stuff i make falls apart so easy i just put it in a ziplock and crush it up then weigh it out!

No, I don’t mill the charcoal separate.
@@FlashNPanwell everybody i'm subbed to that does it put theirs out last month!!
@@Everythingblackpowderthanks Jake just wondering like i said it doesn't seem to make a difference in what i make!
I thought it did not suck
Thats a bitchin tomahawk. Whats the story behind that?
It was a kit that I bought from track of the wolf
@@Everythingblackpowder thanks!
The only thing I would add to this video would be playing Filter at the end! You know the song!

Did you use fillers with the smokeless? And yes! You should have used black powder! 👍👍👍
No fillers
