This made me cry because as a Filipino I know exactly what Bella Poarch is talking about. It's hard to open up about childhood traumas or child abuse to other Filipinos because if you tell them that you've been abused by your parents they're going to tell you that they've gone through worse things and that you should just suck it up cause they think that's how people are supposed to grow and be strong. Some Filipinos think that children can only be corrected through abuse without knowing that it is abuse. When you tell them that you've been beaten up by your parents over small things they will tell you that they've been beaten up too and that it's normal and some people even make jokes about the abuse that they've gone through just like the other Asians on the internet. They remind me of my siblings who are proud of my parents for being abusive to them. They literally say all the time, "If I was not beaten up by our parents I wouldn't be the strong person that I am today," "Children who are not beaten up by their parents grow up to be wayward, look at the kids nowadays," "When I become a parent, I'm going to do the same thing that our mom did to us." It's sooo fucked up because it is normalized. I remember going to school with a bleeding lip because I was slapped so hard that my ears rang and I was crying riding a jeep. When I was a child, my mom didn't just use a belt to beat my ass. She used to use wooden planks. I used to get recurring nightmares that my mom was a demonic monster and our house was hell and that my siblings were only laughing at me as I was being chased by our mom. My life was literally hell and that's how my subconscious mind also interpreted it yet nobody cared.
There are now more younger Filipinos who stand up against this abusive tradition but I think it would take a longer time before it is seen by the majority as something fvcked up.
Literally same but i go through mental abuse :(
I dont see how parents think instilling fear and control will be good parenting skills- i hope ur ok now
I'm a Filipino, and honestly its one of the reasons why I don't ever want to go back to the Philippines. It's awful how normalised shit is because "respect ur elders" or "God wants you to respect ur parents." It's part of the culture and everyone thinks its normal.
very accurate. Actually my dad had beaten me with a belt and the hard steel part of that belt had hit my nose and that is the start of my hell. I was not allowed to run like a normal kid, go outdoors or even experience extreme heat of the sun because my nose' bone became fragile that I am bleeding a lot and very often. I was also asked by the doctor if I had an accident but NO... it was just my dad who just hit me with that belt which ruined my entire childhood. I am always bleeding but thanks to God the bones of my nose got fixed and normalized as I grew up. NOTE: that 'belt hit' actually happened when I was 4-5 years old.
@@gurlaristeia5983 I’m sorry to hear that. Hope now, life treats you better and you are safe. ❤️
As someone who’s mixed but growing up with a filipino family, I feel like what she’s gone through is almost identically parallel to mine. People don’t speak enough on the toxic aspects of filipino culture. Proud of her to be able to speak out on this.
Hope you're doing good
Me too man...
I hope things will get better for you and @NPC Energy and you guys are fine
I feel the same , grew up in Malaysia and this is all super relatable :( really sucks that the toxic aspects of South East Asian childhoods are often overlooked .. more awareness should be brought to it
But her dad was from the US, and by the sound of it made all the rules, and the native Filipino mom just obeyed him and did things his way. So what in her story are the toxic aspects of Filipino culture? Is it that they don't do anything when they hear about neighbours doing bad stuff?
When she said “I never had a genuine conversation with him”, that HIT ME. My dad is a Hispanic, “alpha” male with anger issues and now that I think about it, I have never had a real conversation with him. Other than him telling me what to do and/or getting mad at me. And still to this day… I seriously have never had a genuine conversation with him. I’m 25!
Girl literally same.
Fellow Mexicana here, and yes toxic masculinity is prevalent in our community. My father is a verbally abusive person. One day I had enough of his bs and stood up for myself and left his toxic household. He’s dead to me.
Girl same😭😭
Same it just feels so uncomfortable
Same here girl mexican and all
Watching how Ethan and Hila enacted their “parent” side with this young woman by telling her to take care of herself, how they’re proud of her, and the fact that Hila went shopping with her like a mom and daughter really warmed my heart. Her dad being an American and ex-military makes so much sense. So many older white men go to the Philippines and take advantage of Filipino women and children. It’s very common and sad.

@@casandras7391 how was that a boost of pride? They were just saying that they became appreciative of their own life after hearing bella's story.
Being 100% honest, The blind bias I had against Bella has been utterly demolished after watching this podcast. To have lumped her in with some of the privileged and truly ungrateful girls who made it big on Tik Tok, was bold and truly ambivalent of me. Hearing her story was eye opening, and as a public apology that no-one asked for, I apologize to Bella and will be a supporter of hers from here on out. Great interviewing by Ethan and Hila, didn't look away for a single second. Good to be Back to the old podcast, Papa Bless.
Yess as a surviver of abusive parents, I feel terrible for assuming she had a regular and even privileged life like most tiktok girls. I’m rly glad they did this podcast and they should do more emotional kinda ones to show the true side of some influencers!
It makes me happy there's people out there that can admit mistakes and change their opinions
I’d advice not to put pre judgment on people much less young females... everyone has a story
On the flip side women don’t have to go through abuse for you to have the decency to respect them. Unless they are truly hurting others with their content.
Ambivalent?
i love how ethan and hila invited her for dinner and built a friendship with bella before getting her on. it just goes to show they actually care and not using her for an episode. i hope bella sees you two as her parents she can go to❤️
Exactly 🙌🏾💛
So thoughtful of them!
Exactly. Almost like earning HER trust. They really are so amazing.
She’ll be another Post Malone
Lmfao
Just learned about her a couple of days ago and just got halfway watching this video and it made me really angry to the point of almost crying. I'm a 46-year-old dad, I can't believe how bad she was treated at a very young age. I have an adopted/stepdaughter and she's 30 now, a 25 yr old daughter, 22 and 6 yr old sons; I would not want any kids suffering like that! This is beyond unbelievable :(
Ethan's fatherly demeanour is so evident throughout the interview. He cares, like a father should. It's so nice to see this side of him!
Yes, he was sweet and caring
My dad is also an american veteran who married my filipino mom... it's so crazy hearing about the similarities and what she's gone through. He was very abusive both physically and verbally and I'm thankful my mom and I could leave. Living in a town that has so many service members, I've heard many times from veterans in particular that they want to retire in the philippines and find a wife. It gives me chills. My heart goes out to Bella so much. No one should have to grow up this way
Yea men who want to go to Thailand or the Phillipines to get a wife creep me out. They are often divorced and bitter and think western women are bitches and Asian women know how to look after a man. It's gross. I work as a housekeeper and know lots of Filipino women. Lots are firey as fuck! I don't know why they're seen as submissive. These men take advantage of women who want to get out of poverty and make money to send back to their family. Lots of women I work with work soooo many hours and their husband is retired. That said, some seem to have happy relationships. One met her husband when he was in the Phillipines on a stopover flight. He wasn't specifically looking for a wife. They just met and fell in love. But those men who specifically seek out an Asian wife or mail order bride creep me out. You see men in their 60's with a wife young enough to be their grandchild.
@@em84c What irritates me the most is that most of them are military or ex-military service members.
My father was physically abusive to me, my mom and my sister. My mother finally called the police when i was 6 (my sister 9). Now he has a filipino wife and they have a child. I just hope he isnt as abusive to them as he was to us because he is >50 now and might not have the same energy.
Thank you for sharing your story, I hope you are surrounded by those who care about you unconditionally 💚
I'm so happy you both were able to get out of that situation. I wish more women would speak on this, I had no idea white men were just trying to find wives from another country till I was 22-23 years old and my coworker a really sweet Filipino woman had to deal with this crazy white ex military guy that met her and brought her to the US. He actually showed up at our clients home pounding on the door I had to lowkey text a short video to my sister (our boss) and she had me call the police. She was able to write a report and get him out of her life.
Man...you can tell that despite all the terrible things Bella's mentioned, she's only spoken a small fraction of what's happened to her. It feels like she's not sure which parts are okay to divulge or not (almost as if she's afraid of over speaking), and this explains why we're only learning more small details when Ethan asks her more leading questions so that she can properly clarify. She doesn't even know where to even begin to explain what's happened to her...this is how you know she really has been dealing with this for most of her life, there's just TOO MUCH to pick one instance. I'm just grateful that Ethan was so respectful and able to make her feel comfortable enough to open up. My heart absolutely breaks for this woman.
Yes I agree that it's a small fraction but what it looks like to me is that she isn't afraid about what to divulge or not but more like she doesn't think anyone will really care. She doesn't have the attitude of someone who is seeking sympathy for what they went thru which is what makes it seem so much more genuine to me. Heartbreaking.
I agree…I am halfway through and wonder if they’ll cover why she got her tattoos. She got them to hide all her scars. She is very strong.
@@Camibug oh my gosh, that is heartbreaking :(
Thought of this too. When you go through shit your entire life you’re not sure where to begin telling your story

Look at her old instagram pictures 2017, the caption "I don't ever want to go back home " damnnnnnnnnnn
bella's comment about not having a childhood at all makes me understand her a lot more. her tik tok is a lot of "cutesy," "childish" content or silly videos but it kind of makes sense for someone who was deprived of that stuff as a child to have an attachment to it now. comforting and embracing your inner child !
Fr what I’ve been telling to people. People automatically sexualize everything and assume she’s doing it for men. Worst catering for pedophiles. What if she just likes it for HERSELF? It’s the misogyny that ppl think women cant like things without associating it to men.
I think it also provides people/children suffering or recovering from child abuse, a break away from the harshness of their everyday reality.

Even though the “mother” didn’t perform the abuse….. child neglect is still a crime.
I can totally agree with that, however the mother in a lot of situations like this is also a victim. Culturally, women are also not supposed to challenge the man. Stockholm syndrome can take over and you become afraid to protect your own child for fear of losing everything.

44:15 She was in Delayed Entry Program; typically in Navy recruiting, you go to bootcamp scheduled 2-3mo before your contractual agreed upon military job training (or A-school). SHES BY FAR THE MOST GENUINE HUMAN ON THIS PLANET 🌎
i love hila 🥺 beautiful soul
Had 0 idea who she was and now I’m a supporter. Followed all her socials…Good luck n do great things Bella
Wow, this was such a long but inspiring episode. I'm so proud of how far Bella has come. She's an incredible example to those who are going through troubling times that don't think it will ever get better. Keep hanging in there everyone, you are doing your best and your manifestation will come😎🙏🏽❤
You really have no idea what other people have been through.
This was an incredible episode, and Bella is so resilient and deserving of all her success.
This has changed my perspective completely. I used to view her as a TikTok girl that was famous for just making cringey faces but she’s a survivor that has been through more than i could ever imagine.
@@reagan6743 still doesn’t change the fact them videos cringe but she strong for what she Went through

Something interesting that I noted: when Bella talks about her life with her family in the Philippines, she goes quiet. But when she talks about her time in the navy she’s so animated and more self assured.
So the filipino parents abuse her or the white adoptive parents?
@@alas2210 the abusive stepdad that she's talking about is a white that decided to retired in the Philippines and married a Filipina.
@@aldrexanderson8924 oh. I thought she grew up in america
I mean she was talking about trauma with her family so of course. That whole segment was so crazy and sonewhat uncomfortable seemed very invasive questions for a first interview imo
@@borromorro I mean I kinda agree but as someone whose been through abuse I kinda like talking about it so people can understand why I have the view points I do or why I act kinda "weird" so you never know how she feels about talking about it
One can definitely see her eyes light up when they get to the part where she was already in the Navy and she starts talking about her friends there, her work, her travels. Her laugh sounds so nice and precious. She really deserves everything she has now and owes her past nothing. 💗
God bless her. This is so heartbreaking, I can't imagine going through what she has. What an incredible young lady. She deserves all the happiness in this world!
This is why Bella never opened up about herself and life. She stays quiet when confronted by paparazzi and whatnot. It's hard to talk about how you were raised, family, etc etc. She deserves everything positive she gets. She definitely made it herself. She's honestly not that bad.
The selfish jealous kid in this internet will about to comment she didn’t deserve the fame- 💀
Yeah she gets a lot of negative comments when really people don’t know her at all. She’s incredible and really inspiring
You mean like all these millions
She was so scared of her stepdad that she peed herself when she came home late.... that is the most heart wrenching thing I've heard in a long time. No child deserves to grow up like this.
It’s crazy that she called it a funny story
Happened to me growing up, as well, so it was just another heartache to hear it happens all across the world... And people really should NOT adopt if they are not suitable (not sure of the regulations overseas, though).
I remember one time I came back home late from school at noon, my mom locked me outside of the door won’t let me in. And I peed in my pants, it was really hot summertime and I was yelling crying begging her to open the door. It was so embarrassing to see neighbors coming out to check what’s happening because of the noise.
@@mmmkkkyla humour is a coping mechanism and not always intentional.

So I came across Bella with viral videos going around on Instagram. Then I searched her on CZcams to find some music videos, and became curious WHO she was exactly. Luckily this interview was the first I came across, and I've found out so much about her. I have nothing but respect for her and all she has been through. She deserves all the success she gets. She's brand new in the industry and I hope she stays with good choices and good management I really hope she does well. This was a great interview, you dug deep in to her past, all the way to her future aspirations such a good interview. Luckily she's willing to actually open up.
Nobody:
Ethan: "So, tell me every trauma you ever experienced"
As a day 1 fan of the H3 podcast i have to say that both Ethan and Hila have gotten SO MUCH BETTER at interviewing / conversing with the in person guests. You can easily notice how much growth they´ve had. LOVE THAT.
Hello friends 🥰Because I'm not famous like other singers that's why no one see my music videos. Please see once and then decide ❤️

Well they're friends with Bella so it's generally easy to 'interview' your friends.
i love how you came to that conclusion without even watching it yet :)

They’re definitely a bit awkward still, I’m a new viewer so looking at older podcasts must be cringe
Such a fantastic episode. She’s been through so much and you’d have no idea from just looking from the outside in. She deserves every bit of success she’s received and more.

This makes so much sense man.
My dad was drafted to Vietnam twice and my lord. It definitely makes sense. My childhood. Until now. I’m brainwashed into almost like I shouldn’t leave the house bc it’s bad outside. (Before and now that I have my house.) The worry of me being out was too much. I couldn’t even go outside to play really. Oh my lord. Wow.
I’m manifesting myself now to realize I can make my own decisions out of courage.
Bella I’m so proud of you. You are a true empath. A good woman. You are it girl. 🥹 ❤ Laura
Always feels good when it's someone who doesnt come from wealth or a privileged background makes it! 🙂
Bella: my stepdad is American and decided to retire in the Philippines
Me, a Filipino: *ah everything makes sense now*
This is so sad honestly. The Philippines is such a beautiful place with super interesting culture. The fact that its normalises for people to take advantage of Filipino women and children is absolutely disgusting & heart breaking

The part when she was talking about her first night in Navy, people were crying because they missed their parents. She’s over here enjoying herself because it was like her very first sleep over 😂 That was so cute
For real 🤣
How come I don’t see that part in this video? Rewatching it if I missed something

I'm happy for her well being now despite all the struggles! I feel for her upbringing. I've had friends with similar situations and stuff like that inspired me to help people on a day to day basis. Thank you for this interview!
One thing's for sure, Bella deserves all these good things happening to her.
I assumed she was just another random person who got popular on Tik Tok because her looks because that seemed to be the trend. After hearing her messed up upbringing in the Philippines (which I unfortunately know is somewhat typical), my opinion has changed. You are strong and enduring. I'm now a fan and supporter. Congrats on your success! Pinoy represent!
ur opinion should stay like this for everyone, u don’t know what people are going through behind the cameras.
@@reyl2230 exactly like wtf. Even if someone hasn't been through a lot they are deserving of respect. And because 'someone got popular on tiktok because of their looks' is never a reason to have a bad opinion on someone, unless that person is a shit person.
@@Nathalie.999 I mean tbf, it's not her fault that ppl simped over her. It says more about her audience than her
Yeah at first I wasn't a fan and thought she got famous with minimal effort but regardless I'm glad she found her way, she certainly deserves this better life. I'm glad she has her brother too.
so someone has to go through hardship in order to be appreciated? if she lived a better life would you hate her?
Ethan and Hila being parents for two hours. This was such a good podcast
This episode was so good 🥺❤️
2 realizations from Bella Poarch and Olivia Rodrigo
Olivia Rodrigo : The bright positive idea of Philippine Culture
Bella Poarch: The dark negative side of Philippine Culture

this podcast really puts a light on how horribly we treat women who gain social media fame for almost no reason. Showing Bella in a much more personal, human way gives so much perspective into her TikTok persona and makes me wonder why she gets so much hate for no reason
Yeah and especially attractive people - why do people just assume there are superficial
Wow......
Yes. From women hating to pimping
that’s how the world works you’ll never not have hate or love so you can keep asking yourself that question but it’s gonna go on for awhile
this may sound like a pretentious analysis but it’s the truth - in a society of wage dependency, people get angry that’s she’s likely earning a lot of money for Tiktoks of bobbing her head while the majority of Americans live paycheck to paycheck despite working hard. The comment section of a viral CZcams compilation of her Tiktoks is FULL of people being like “so this is talent now?” and “you can get famous for this?” People are actually frustrated about their low wages and menial positions but they take it out on people “doing nothing”. People who are content with their financial position in life don’t get upset about how some random girl makes her money.
Wow, when Bella was talking about her upbringing, I teared up. I never even thought twice about Bella Poarch. I just knew she had the most liked TikTok for doing a silly dance and some faces. Never had anything against her, but I never knew much about her. You never know what people’s lives are/were like when you just see them on social media. Massive respect for her. She seems very talented and tough.
I NEVER hated this girl BUT I did always think “oh great another dumb tiktoker trying to be more extra” Bella after this video wow her story is something out of a book... she’s an incredible human and I HOPE she never gives in and sees them. They don’t deserve anything that she has now. She deserves it all. And I wish I could give her a hug. ❤️

I feel so bad for her, I just recently found out about her and I didn't even know she was Filipino, I thought she was some rich white girl who dyed her hair black and was trying to be cute and never had any hardships in her life. I was wrong and I am soooo glad she became famous and rich, she deserves it all that fame and money. She is literally a Cinderella story! I hope she never builds a relationship with them because they clearly only want back in her life for her money, and she shouldn't feel bad for not sharing her new fortune with them because they don't deserve it! She made it on her own and is BEYOND strong for going through all that and still pushing forward. I'm glad her and her brother made it out and I hope she makes it as a musician! Mad respect and I'm soooo glad she is rich and famous now she had to work non stop from such a young age she seriously deserves all these good things happening to her.
