Shopify’s New ‘Search & Discovery’ App - Tutorial

- Search & Discovery is an app released by Shopify themselves to enhance your stores Filters, Search, and Product Recommendation features.
The reason I’m excited about this app is the ability to control recommended products, and add complementary products in a block on the product page.
This makes it so much easier to direct your customers to an alternative to a product, or to recommend a complementary product that is meant to be used together with the main product - for example batteries, or an accessory to the main product.
There is also a significant improvement to the search functionality.
*Quick summary of features:*
- Filters have moved to the app. But they work the same as before (in Shopify 2.0)
- Set up synonyms to make it easier for customers to search e.g. “t-shirt, tshirt, tee” or “leggings”, “tights”, “yoga pants”.
- Boost specific products to come up higher in store search.
- Control recommended products section at the bottom of product pages - previously this was automatic but not very smart.
- Add a ‘complementary products’ block in the main product information section (the right-side column with description, add to cart buttons, etc…). This feature is also known as “pairs well with” or “frequently bought together”.

Hi Ed thanks so much for the video love it! A big question mark here - will I be able to add this filter on my homepage? As I cannot add a "product grid" on my Homepage where filter is available. I would very much like to know how to add the filter on my homepage or the "featured collection" section for greater convenience. Thanks!

Hi Ed great video, on my theme it won't allow me to use drop down tabs for my filters? Is this something to do with my theme or can I change some code manually?

Hi, thank you for the video. Is there a way to add complementary products in bulk? What I mean is that I want to add the same 2 complementary products to all my products.
Thanks dear. Now feature of this video is a regular one in Dawn 10.0 and above. Can you tell us on how we can upload CSV such that adding related product becomes direct rather than going on to Shopify individual product?

Hi Ed! Thanks for this video! I wonder if there is a way to use tags to show related products, for example. It does not have to be tags but I feel that, having a LOT of products with inventory = 1 (not one product with 500 units), it is very troublesome to select the related products for every single product we have. I just needed that the "related products" could relate to items of the same "size" (which is a product variant and within the product metafields). Is there a way to do this? 🤩 Thanks a lot!!

I will look at this again. I added liquid file through the coding. I need to see how you get the other areas for product because this will represent more sales. I need to see what you did and what the app will do and go from there.
Is it possible to add a filter for Discounted products?? So when that filter is set to Yes only products on sale will be displayed?

Great videos, Thanks! I always thought the Shopify Search should be better "out of the box". It was always a problem finding a good Search APP. Plus, a lot of those Search APPs were "heavy" and slowed the site down. AND! And they made it hard to customize the Collection pages. Do you have a video on how to customize the collection pages?

@@EdCodes Yes, we sell house plans, on the collection pages we need to show more Product Data, for example, along with the Main Image, Price and Plan Number (SKU) we need to show the Number of Bed rooms, Baths rooms, the Total Living Sq. Ft., and number of stories. All this data would be coming from MetaFields. I've done this in the past by customizing the Liquid code directly. This always caused problems with Search APPS as well as with keeping the Theme up-to-date.
How can I display this filter in the sidebar of my product page? If the theme doesn't support it, how can I manually code the implementation?
If anyone is familiar with this, kindly provide guidance.
Thank you. Would love to see video how to add a product to a blog post without an app. Tried to follow someone else's video on this and got a liquid error. Really don't want to install another app just to add products to blog posts.
That's a great idea for a video. But do you want to add the product somewhere in the body of the blog post? Or just above or below?
@@EdCodes Yes I'm working on a post right now and I'm wanting to highlight 10 new products that I've brought out in the last few weeks and realizing there isn't an easy way to do this without an app or just pasting links. I want to actually see the products right there in the post itself. I love your videos as you explain things so well in a way that those of us who don't know code yet can understand.
