  • 2020 CIMC Vanguard with a Thermo King reefer. Temps around -28C over night, wind chill factor at -43C. Had this unit sitting for a few days and I needed to pre-warm the box up to 32F. So a cold start test run was in order. Grab the GoPro and go! Hit that start button and see what goes on. The glow plugs had to cycle a second time for this unit to start.

    Do you notice any difference between the Carrier Units and the Thermo King units in regards to starting up in cold weather?
    I run with Erb and we mainly use Carrier but from my experience the Carrier has a bit of a harder time starting up when it’s frozen outside

      I have not noticed any difference in these reefers units starting in cold weather. We run both units in our rental fleet and have not had a problem with either units. [batteries, a few here and then] But that's about it. Cold starts, seem about the same to me. Stumpr1 Bell Trailers

      @@outcastsociety8513 Sure can, in about 7 months from now. I also hope never to see -30C weather again, but it's where we live. Damn. BTW, yesterday we hit 37C....ya, no kidding. We go to the extreme here! Stumpr1

    I was wondering what’s the purpose of the video?
    To prove that the TK will start at freezing temps?

    • @stumpr1
      @stumpr1  Před 2 lety +1

      Purpose= to prove that, Yes, A TK unit will start even after sitting in extreme cold for a few days. Plus I get to stand outside and freeze my ass off wondering if it wil start. [which it does] Also, I have about 300 units and many of my customers ask if these units will start at these temps, even after sitting for a day or two. Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers! Honest question: if the setpoint for the interior is 2 degrees, does the ThermoKing actually heat up the trailer?

  • @robertanderson8809
    @robertanderson8809 Před 3 lety

    You might ask your local TK dealer to show you how to use sleep mode (if equipped)and that will keep the system up and running and will use minimum fuel

      Hey Robert, Yes, all my Reefer Trailers have the Sleep Mode. This is a great feature to have and many of our customers do request it. Cheers!

    Interesting that you mention the wind speed in Kilometers per hour. Do you use KM/H and other Metric Measurements in Canada?

    Non trucker here, why run the reefer if the temperature is already below zero?

    • @stumpr1
      @stumpr1  Před rokem

      MOST Grocery stores require proof that the temp was controlled to what they need for that load. The shipper will add in a TEMP recording device that can and will be checked to ensure the load was at the proper temp thruout it's travels. Hopethat answers your question. Stumpr1

    • @stumpr1
      @stumpr1  Před 3 lety +2

      jumping very cold batteries can be dangerous, If this unit did not start, then yes, I would boost it to go. After leaving the doors open for 5 minutes. Just in case of battery vapours. Have you ever seen a battery explode? Not a nice situation.
