I bought some empty gelatin capsules and I divide the drug in half. I take 1 every 12 hours (1 before bed and another mid-day) rather than once a day and this has eliminated all the side effects of dizziness and stuffy nose. For me it seems much more effective as well.

I took it for about a week with only some light dizziness when I stood up.
Then I went on a car trip out east and pulled into a restaurant and ate a big salad.
Got back in the car and while driving I blacked out. My wife got me to an emergency room where I faded in and out for a couple of hours before they flew me to a big hospital and insisted that I needed a pacemaker because my pulse was 30bpm and my bloodpressure was 90 over 50.
I asked them repeatedly if they were sure that the flomax with my other blood pressure medicine along with the big meal wasn't the cause.
    They said no.
To make a long story short I was right and they were wrong. The flowmax caused my blood pressure to collapse which caused an erratic heart rate.
It took me about two years working with the pacemaker doctor to gradually turn down the pacemaker beat rate. Now it paces only 3% of the time when I'm in deep sleep.
Bottom line is I never needed the pacemaker. A waste of time and money. When the battery goes dead I'm having it taken out.
Flowmax can be bad news. Be very careful taking it and only if you "really" need it.

Flomax almost killed me due to a severe drop in blood pressure. During the night on the third taking Flomax, I awoke in the middle of the night with a very strange and scary sensation. I tried to get out of bed, and I passed out on the floor…. An ambulance was called, and they found my blood pressure had dropped to ‘68 systolic & 32 diastolic’, which the EMT’s diagnosed as near fatal. The Emergency Room gave me adrenaline, and a ‘fluid drip’ to help purge the Flomax in my system. I was hospitalized for three days…. My cardiologist came to see me and noted that Flomax and Uroxatol worked largely based on learning blood pressure. Another Urologist did a more thorough exam using a scope of my urinary track. My prostate was growing back into the bladder, and orthoscopic guided laser removed the offending prostate tissue in my bladder. In summary, my first urologist did a very quick 5 minute discussion, then wrote a prescription…. Almost killed me. Sloppy medical service….

Ummm…… so, insomnia is a potential side effect of Tamsulosin ! Isn’t that why you take it, disturbed sleep …… talk about chasing your tail ! Am I awake because I need to urinate OR am I urinating because I was awake anyway. And, another thing, if you take it with breakfast then the impact on ED is negligible by the next morning which, if you’re retired and sleep alone anyway ……. Well, you get my point. 😎

My PSA doubled into the double digits (17). My doctor doesn’t know whether my second Covid booster had anything to do with it. It gave me a blood clot landing me in the hospital and ended up on blood thinners. I had an MRI, inconclusive and a biopsy resulted with no cancer, just that my prostate was still enlarged. I’m clearly one the people with side effects not mentioned. It gives me severe congestion so I can only handle the full pill every other day. I’ll have to ask my doctor and see if cutting it in half and taken every day is something recommended.

However, I had already taken my customary two capsules of Flomax. I was so sick and dizzy by the time I made it to the doctor, I thought I was going to die right then and there. The doctor questioned me and we both realized what I had done. I've completely lost my sensation of hunger. I stopped taking Flomax because I'm not eating, which means I'm back to not passing the contents of my bladder. I do self catheter three times a day, otherwise I'd be in worse trouble than I am. My PSA reading went up from 3=4 to 6-7, then 9, then came down to 4-5, then went up to 7 in Feb 2022.I have been using Tamsulosin and Finastride once a day for about 7-8+ years. Then in Sep of 2022 my PSA went up to 13, from 7 about 6 months back. So I was told to get Ultrasound, which I did. It showed my prostate was not enlarged, but on the higher side of normal size. The ultrasound was inconclusive. Then I was told to get a special MRI for prostate which I did in Oct of 2022. The report said out of the five things(?, which I really didn't understand) three were under 3, one was four and one was five - again this was inconclusive, so am waiting for my biopsy on Dec 7, 2022 in Bristol, TN. Fortunately I have not had any of the side effects mentioned (except one!). I may go to the bathroom maybe once or twice (very rarely). So the doctors want to find out why my PSA is so high! I think they want to rule out a possibility of malignancy.

Don’t take it.I did it 5 years ago and I can’t ejaculate anymore and I developed Peyronie's disease .It’s been 5 years and most of Peyronie's disease has been gone, but ejaculation is still a problem. The urologist said I have a 50% chance that it will come back.So now I’m 53 years old and my X life is over.

Interesting, the advice that this medicine be taken the same time every day and 30 minutes after a meal. When I was prescribed Flomax I asked the doctor about this, his response was that it wasn't all that important but I should probably take at night because it can make you drowsy. BTW, it may be a coincidence, but Flomax does make me drowsy after taking it...for about an hour. Luckily, that seems to be my only side effect.

I had an allergic reaction to Tamsulosin, I became extremely weak and developed painful waterblisters on the back of my hands and chest. These symptoms went away after I stopped taking it. I recommend not prescribing Tamsulosin if the patient is allergic to sulfa drugs.

Can tamsulosin cause high grade prostate cancer?
This medicine may affect the results of the prostate specific antigen (PSA) test, which may be used to detect prostate cancer. Make sure you tell all of your doctors that you are using this medicine. This medicine will not prevent prostate cancer but may increase your risk of developing high-grade prostate cancer.

According to the Mayo Clinic here are the possible side-effects:
    More common
    Cough or hoarseness
    fever or chills
    lower back or side pain
    painful or difficult urination
    Less common
    Chest pain
    Rare
    Dizziness or lightheadedness
dizziness, faintness, or lightheadedness when getting up suddenly from a lying or sitting position
    fainting
feeling of constant movement of self or surroundings
painful or prolonged erection of the penis
    sensation of spinning
I went on Tamsulosin for one week and my experience was terrible. I had a stuffed up nose , headache, cough, congestion in my lungs and feeling dizzy and I felt chills and fevers. On top of that, my symptoms got worse; running to the bathroom every hour at night, as opposed to two or three times at night, with other symptoms associated with coughing and congestion. Contrary to most people my body creates a significant amount of urine and my stream is very strong. I had a cystoscopy recently and my urologist recommended it based on what he saw: enlarged prostate and bladder looking normal. Since I've stopped those nasty symptoms went away. Can anyone suggest an alternative to this drug?

Hi.Im so glad I read your post.Im on day 2 and I've already decided to stop taking them. They said the 3 bladder stones where removed last year. But I had an ultrasound that showed quite a few,one being 7.5.Im taking chanca piedra and I'm confident they will flush the stones over time. They also offered to snip the top of bladder with the side effect of dry ejaculation, I was shocked and refused straight away, very frustrating. If you don't mind..what happened to you,I only ask because I may learn something new. Thanks😊

I took tamsulosin for bph and it made me dizzy, then I was recommended finasteride and my doctor warned me that my hair might regrow some but I might start developing breasts and I said great doc, you fixed my bph but now I'll need to buy a bra !! Truth was almost none of this was really true in my case .I did get some welcomed hair were it was thin but not much .Finasteride is an older drug and takes longer to work but it's more natural feeling than tamsulosin for me . I feel better on it but the bra straps keep chafing my shoulders and I'm wondering what Caitlin Jenner would do . Just kidding ! I'm just fine on finasteride . Personally I think the stinging nettle and zinc remedy is also good and probably the best . An old world war 2 navy hospital corpsman showed me this . I'd do it myself but worry about interactions with my present meds .Find a good rated herbalist or naturpath if you want to go this route and above all, research all of your meds and check them for any interactions .Then talk to your doctor and he will probably give you hell for even thinking of this and if this is the case, try to find another doctor who will work with you .I think there are naturpaths out there that know a lot of stuff that western medicine doesn't know especially for viral infections. I had long covid and a naturpath helped me get rid of it pretty quick . I was really skeptical but it was gone in about a week . Again this may not be for everyone but it worked for me. Best of luck !
