    I got rid of my 17' Tuono V4 1100 Factory for a 19' YZ450FX supermoto and having the most fun ever. Imo, smaller lightweight torquey bikes are the most fun on the street. Liter bikes are overrated on the street, they are better suited for the track where you can have proper fun on them without the law bothering you.

Had everything from Harley's to supernakeds, including a 2015 FZ09, I currently ride a 2017 Ducati Scrambler Classic, very similar to your FZ07. 75hp, light, flickable puts a smile on my face every time I ride it. I completely agree with you these type of bikes make way more sense on the street. Great Video, ride safe my friend.

      Yep, a lot of people are gravitating towards the more sensible bikes that are fuel economic, light, multi-purposed, etc. I myself, after owning 2 sport bikes, am looking at a 2019 triumph street scrambler or KTM 790 adventure r for my next bike. They’re more versatile, comfortable, handleable, and can go off road. It’s the freedom that us riders want, and a sport bike is restricted to the street where as a good adventure bike can deliver adventurous spirit.

    I totally agree with you as far as having fun on a smaller bike is concerned. For years I also thought the next bike always has to bigger and faster than the previous one. But then one day realized I did not enjoy riding anymore. My Kawasaki Z800 felt too heavy and was not cornering well. I preferred riding my bicycle over the Kawa for two seasons and then made the decision to let it go. I sold it and got myself a Ducati Monster 797 with „only“ 75hp. That was in 2017 and I couldn’t be happier and still have a big smile on my face every time I ride it. Greetings from Germany!

    Agree bout that sound. I know tons of guys typically rave about that supersport inline four scream, but personally, I just find it all a bit bland or lacking much character. I have a Ninja 650, probably the quietest bike ever! haha, so I replaced the stock exhaust with a full system SC Project setup and dude, it truly made the bike come to life. Ya I’m missing out on those two extra cylinders of power, but part of the great thing of motorcycling is just how personal and subjective of an experience riding can be. Not ragging on those that like the inline four sound by any means, to each their own. Enjoy the ride everyone! 😎

    I get what you're saying, I have a '15 FZ-07 and I love it, mostly for the engine and it's nimbleness. One of my favorite bikes ever (when I was younger/smaller) was my first bike, a Yamaha DT 100. That peppy little engine and it's weight made it a super fun bike to ride. A 125 or 250 enduro would be a lot of fun at my size now, I may get a good used one to haul in the back of my truck when I go up to northern Georgia/Tennessee area to ride on their fire roads through the mountains. That would be awesome I think. Careful where you do wheelies. Be safe!

The Z650 is insane fun, handles so well in corners but has enough power for the straights and love just wringing its neck its perfect. Looking forward to some tours on it later this year. At the end of the day its all about having fun. :) Great video man.

  • @PeetersDani
    @PeetersDani Před 4 lety +1

    I totally get it! It isn't a downgrade at all! You have way more usable power and every time you accelerate you can do it way longer than on a bike with more power. In january have my license since january and first only rode a powerfull bike with the riding lessons. Last week I rented a 48hp Z900 (I live in the Netherlands and therefore am limited the first 2 years to 48hp). Icould keep up with my dad riding a 1200cc 116hp Triumph. Had to shift way more often but that made it even more fun. Congrats on your new bike, would love to own a FZ07 one day!

    I recently did the same thing for the same reason. I "downgraded" from an FZ-10 to a Hypermotard 939SP. More fun at lower speeds, I break the laws less, except for wheelies, but then I was doing that on the FZ-10 as well, just faster. And with the higher center of gravity on the Hypermotard, I don't have to go into turns anywhere near as fast to get "that feeling" when you are cornering. I thought that I was the only one making this move though. Some of my friends think I'm nuts, or scared, but they have no idea what they are missing.....

      @exothermal.sprocket Před 4 lety

      Bikes like the Tuono are only fun after 90mph. They're dull at legal speeds. That's the trouble with most stupidly powerful bikes. I've had a boat load of bikes and felt all sorts of power levels. I still have the most fond memories of my old SV650.

    • @lastingeffort6775

      @@exothermal.sprocket Now that I think about it, you're actually right. My friend has the 2018 Tuono V4 and it's a great machine! It glides through turns, has plenty of horses, and feels great to ride. I was barely able to use 40% of its power (this actually kind of bothered me LOL).
      If I were to own that bike, my license would be suspended within a week... You get comfortable riding fast very quickly. I personally believe the mid-weight naked's like the MT-09, Street Triple RS, and the 890 all offer the perfect amount of power. But my philosophy will always remain the same: We only live this life once so get whatever your heart desires and be happy!

    I understand completely because, back in August of 2014 when the Yamaha Demo Days truck came to town, I test rode both the FZ-09 and FZ-07.
    I rode the FZ-09 first, and while that was OK, it felt a lot like the seven 4-cylindered bikes I'd had in the past. It just didn't do it for me.
    Then came the ride on the FZ-07.
    Man, that was more like it for me. Excellent power delivery, light, maneuverable, and it sounded very good as an added bonus. The bike was WAAAAAYYY more fun than the FZ-09, I felt.

    I was thiking on upgrading my Yamaha Tracer 700 (dunno if available on the states, but basically an Fz07with some farings for better touring), because i was "no longer scared" of using the full throttle, i knew exactly how it would respond, tried the fz09 in sport mode and was like "omg, this is cool!" and was thinking on upgrading, but after i saw your video... I "feel you", I think of it and being able to use the all the throttle and know how much throttle i am using and how much I need to use is actually a good thing bot a bad thing. I have car background and totally agree on driving slow cars fast being way funnier that fast cars slow 60mph will seem fast on a slow car, and slow on a fast car. Also i dont need more speed, my bike has all the speed that I need. Now i am more turned into having something a bit more "offroadier" if I need to, since mine is good for everything i need, but not for offroad, and if i mod it to it (like someguys do) it will be crap for touring and such. In resume, thanks for the video, you did opened my eyes on something that was right in front of me and i could not see!

    It is refreshing to hear from someone younger not getting caught up in the power trap just going bigger and bigger. It makes so much sense to choose the bike that works for you and your riding, you are bang on the smaller bike can be awesome fun and i understand the joy of being able to hold full throttle in windies when others have to hold partial or they'll overspeed. I ride a ducati monster 659 right now and going to an mt09 due to being a big guy and just needing that bit more grunt right now (and i love wheelies and the 659 is not cutting it) but the risk of speeding too much is going to be a challenge.

    Yeah I feel the "obligated to speed" thing. I love my busa I really do and will always keep it. But I need a 2nd bike, something fun and light. The busa is just too fast for the street to be an only bike. Theres boxes not checked off for my enjoyment of riding. I'm 6'4" 240 so I hope I'm not too big for the mt07. That's the other factor in bike choice is my size

I don't really have plans to upgrade any further. This level of power is exactly what I wanted.

  • @scholsey2

    I get why you got an MT07. I had a MT07 and I tried an MT09sp and it didn’t draw me in enough to change. A ktm 790 duke did a good year or so later however. Think it’s similar ethos. Punchy twin and light weight that can be chucked around both bikes are smiles for miles. I would say overall the KTM just edges out the box. However some massive things I miss and love about my old MT07. The sound of that CP2 engine is one of the best sounding engines out there. The initial grunt and low down grunt of the MT07 is something else. Let’s not forget price of these things either they are so much fun for the money.
    At start of this year I had a Mt07 and an R6 which was mainly for track. I sold R6 to free up some cash for my honeymoon. It was great on track but hated it on road which saw the bike not getting much use.
    I like yourself fancied a change. I wanted a bike that could commute one day and track day the next. The MT07 would of been good enough for this just the allure of electronics and the slight increase in power drew me to the KTM duke 790. Love the KTM it fits the bill. Part of me wishes Yamaha would do an MT07-SP not all us riders want 150bhp plus bikes. I said when I sold the MT07 it wouldn’t be my last one and despite my love for my new KTM if I could find some spare money I’m year or two time I’ll look to get an xsr700 so I can enjoy a cp2 engine again but this time in a retro style package.
    You’ve gained a new sub. Hope you enjoy the MT07 and look forward to seeing upcoming videos on your adventures 👍🏻
