  • In this video, I am going to use some Jazz Licks to cover some of the techniques and how you use them on a Maj7th chord. The 5 examples will show you how you can use Chromaticism, Arpeggios, trills and octave displacement on a maj7th chord.
    Learning the rules of a jazz language like Bebop can be a really useful way to study and internalize that sound.

    Let me know what you think about this type of video with a concept applied to one chord and not a progression?

      It is a clever approach, thank you. Many songs have static chords. Moreover, phrases you learn in M7 can be also used over chord progressions such as the A of rhythm changes...

      Great video as always! The best thing about your lessons is that i sometimes feel lost in between the lines after a month of practice or so, but you always happen to upload just what i need to get back on track!

      I like the licks that hang on chords for several bars as well. Most of the music I play doesn’t move as much as jazz but I like to add ear twists to listeners. Do you do personal lessons as well?

    I think the Maj7 chord and its arpeggio are the foundation of most traditional jazz lines. When I discovered this my playing really took off. I’m glad you discussed this very important and often overlooked topic.

    • @JensLarsen
      @JensLarsen  Před 5 lety

      Thanks! You can certainly use Maj7th arpeggios in a lot of places, but I am not sure it is the most important one :)

    Jen's you mentioned the connection between classical and beebop with counterpoint. A while back I sat down with the Charlie Parker omnibook.....I played the root of the chord and the melody....really slow.....and was surprised by how classical it sounded.
