    I have the Raynox 250 & the Sony 90mm f2.8 Macro (probably my favorite lens overall, & I own 10 Native Sony lenses + ~12 3rd party, hard to pick a #1 overall but the sharpness of the Sony 90, the “clutch shift” focus ring to switch from manual to autofocus, plus the additional on lens physical (CUSTOMIZABLE) Button (& 2 settings switches), & above all else the fact that the 90 is also a FANTASTIC portrait lens gives it just the slightest edge over the other Sony lenses I have or have had previously. (With the “old school” 35 f1.4 Distagon coming in a close 2nd)
    It was cool to see your experiments & results with the Raynox & the 90mm, I have also had fantastic results with the Sony 55 f1.8 + the Raynox, as well as a vintage Nikon 200mm adapted to Sony + the Raynox, as it provides a slightly more workable shooting distance (you have to get in CLOSE with the Raynox on most lenses, I haven’t had a chance to work w/ the Nisi, if it allows for a further shooting distance that may well be a big plus as well)

    The raynox does have threads, it's 39mm if I recall correctly, so all you need is a step-down adaptor. I used it on a setup involving some kind of 87mm threaded optics.

      @anotherperspective3076  Pƙed 4 lety

      True, but I don't own the right rings yet, but it would be interesting to see what magnifications can be reached on long lens, have you measured it?

    • @diatomsaus
      @diatomsaus Pƙed 4 lety

      @@anotherperspective3076 Unfortunately not, I never used the raynox for photography purposes. I only ever mounted it on a 70-200 via the step-down rings (custom adaptor I ordered) just to see if everything is right. AF actually works, quite reliable on a tripod.
      Another idea, why not just cut a piece of thicker cardboard, make it into a concentric circle. Shove the raynox in, and push the cardboard into the threaded filter front of the lens? The threads will hold the cardboard in place. I always keep and reuse packaging materials.

      Thank you! I'd use the NiSi lens, because the raynox is too small (You'd need an additional adapter) and the magnification using the NiSi is also higher. On long lens the NiSi scores, on shorter focal length and macro lens the raynox got it's strength

    Hello, I already own the Raynox 250 and I’d like to buy the NIsi macro lens to combine with my Sony 100-400;
    I’d use the this latter combo for shooting insects, like dragonflies, where you can’t get too close to your subject, while I’d keep the Raynox to use, sometimes, with the macro Sony 90mm when the subjects are still, e.g. butterflies in early mornings at the end of September and October.

    The NISI close-up optical device is a lens, not a filter, can we call it a lens that screws into the front of the main camera lens in the internal thread which can be used to attach either a filter or a close up lens. I am fussy about technical terminology, it is important for newcomers, it is less confusing to use the correct terminology. You are not alone in making this error, some of the best macro imagers I see on CZcams make the same mistake. Thanks for sharing your experiences. Greetings from Tasmania Australia.🇩đŸ‡ș🩘

    just get a step down adaptor for the telephoto and the raynox works perfectly.

    Yes obviously, with macro lens hood it will be better than pictures taken without macro lense hood, so it's better to take macro objects such as ants, beetles etc with a macro lens hood for better results

    Nisi made in China, Raynox made in Japan.... It doesn't mean that quality of one is bad, but I trust more Japan made lens.
    (BTW affiliated link for Nisi in description doesn't work)

    That's not a bad way to get 4:1, considering macro lenses with that aren't cheap and microscope objectives might not be any easier
