@Nathan Boyle I respect your opinion, but I have a different opinion from you.
I don't understand why some people keep thinking Rachel is a selfish character even until the end of the show. She is indeed first portrayed as a selfish, spoiled girl. But she develops into a better character, that's for sure. She becomes an independent woman and a good mother for Emma. I'm sure you'll understand first-time mothers need to learn a lot, and the same applies to Rachel. She thanks Monica in her going away party realizing Monica's important role in her life, changing her life to a better direction.
I think getting off the plane is an unselfish act. She could have kept her initial decision to choose a potentially successful career in Paris but she gave that up to be together with Ross and Emma of course, as a family. She had to choose and she chose love. Two other examples of Rachel's unselfish acts were saying congratulations instead to Ross and naming Baby Girl Geller-Green despite their unmarried status (compare that to what Carol and Susan did).
And to me, she is not boring at all. If Ross's clumsiness, Chandler's sarcasm, etc are obvious but Rachel has nothing and is boring as you said, perhaps it's a writing flaw for Rachel.
As to Jennifer's acting skills, the awards she won (Emmy, Golden Globe, SAG, and some others you could easily find on the internet) as well as the numerous nominations prove that she can act. Being pretty and popular is not her fault. Many people love her, and from her interviews, you can get the impression that she is a nice, fun, and loving person. The other cast also shared positive opinions about her. She won 7 People's Choice Awards because people love her. I understand that winning awards is not the only sign of a good actor. But when an actor wins them, I think they should be appreciated. And Jennifer works hard for her achievements. And I'm sure indie and box office movies are equally appreciated, perhaps in a different way.
I know Jennifer also has haters as other celebrities also do have. But what can you say? That's life. No matter what we do, some people may just dislike us because of envy or for no reason at all.
@@rosmeilansiagian9654 I agree with you and I think that Rachel shows more character development out of the 6 (and this is just my opinion). The first season/couple of seasons she was a selfish and spoiled but she showed more growth throughout the entirety of the show, especially compared to a character like Phoebe who I kind of thought was written really inconsistently, like she was against wearing fur until she got a fur coat, she was against big massage chains until she got a job at one it’s if they want her to be a character that has principles then why doesn’t she ever stick to them? It seemed like the writing team didn’t ever agree how to write Phoebe and her character was kind of a mess but to me it’s great to watch Rachel grow and change and get better and become a great mom and person
Because this was her lowest point, and they were sad for her. Its not an ongoing situation.
This was a one-off where the script flipped on Rachel and she got desperate. Chandler's "role" is the desperate nerdy guy throughout most of the series.
@@holdmybeard3160 That's cause Rachel always gets what she wants, Chandler doesn't. So the one time she doesn't get what she wants, she goes crazy and breaks the despo meter. In comparison, Chandler handles it well when he perpetually doesn't get what he wants.
Did you notice that Gunther was washing dishes in the background? And he was the only one clapping hands when Rachel finished the weird goodbye performance. It is so hilarious.

I will never be able to understand Rachel's behaviour in this episode. So embarassing, plus Joshua seemed sooo boring and not really that into her.
I believe it has to do with the fact that Rachel’s character; guys are always chasing after her, and so like a guy like Joshua; a guy that doesn’t see Rachel romantically at first, she ends up being the one chasing the guy. Same thing happened again with another character Danny.
Theory wise anyways.

But, Rachel eventually let Ross marry Emily by saying "Congratulations" instead of "I still love you" to him. It means she was ready to see Ross happy with Emily. It was Ross who couldn't get over Rachel by saying her name in his wedding vow. I think whether Rachel came to the wedding or not, Ross might still say Rachel's name because it's Rachel who filled his head and heart all the time. Like Joshua to Rachel, Ross was never really into Emily.

In Bonnie's case, Bonnie actually loved being bald. It's Ross who couldn't accept a bald girlfriend. If Ross had really loved Bonnie, he should've stayed with her no matter how she looked and no matter what Rachel did and said. In Julie's case too, if Ross had really loved her, he shouldn't have broken up with her no matter how Rachel felt about him.
In Emily's case, although Rachel went to London, I was relieved when she finally only said congratulations to Ross. It's on the very moment when she saw Ross and Emily kissing that she finally realized Ross was really happy with Emily. If she did say she still loved him, I would say that she definitely ruined his wedding.
Ross invited Rachel to his wedding, so Rachel's attendance was expected from the start. When Ross said Rachel's name, well I couldn't blame Rachel. Ross should've been able to control himself and say the right name despite Rachel's attendance. I would say it's Ross himself who ruined his wedding.
In the three cases above, we all know that for Ross, it's always been Rachel. It would be unfair for the three women and in fact for Ross's next love interests if they got together but it's Rachel who's always on Ross's mind.
And about the three divorces. We know that in Ross and Carol's divorce, Rachel's not involved. About Ross and Emily's divorce, I already shared my view above. Thirdly, Ross and Rachel had a drunken wedding, from which nothing could be expected by a married couple. Ross wouldn't have had a third divorce if he hadn't hesitated to get the annulment.
I like Rachel the most too btw. Ross is my second favorite character mainly because he's Rachel's lobster. I embrace them with all their flaws and upsides.

Everyone talking about how embarrassing this moment was, but they forget that Rachel hosted a fake party for Emily and ruined Ross' day with Emily just to get to Joshua.

Rachel is the most underrated on this show. She is hilarious it's just you are not used to seeing the popular girl/woman archetype as funny.
Aniston won an Emmy. If anyone is underrated, it's Courteney Cox. She has an understated comedic timing, which is nonetheless perfect. This video is an example of that: "I think you're done" LOL.

This scene is a prime example of why I didn't like Rachel as a character, especially in later seasons. I'm a girl, but for me Rachel was always more to blame for all the mess between her and Ross, and I never understood why Ross was accused of everything. For me, Ross was the best character on the show - he was sweet, hilarious, he helped everyone and yes, sometimes he made mistakes like literally every character on the show, some people for some reason just like to pick on Ross more.
In general, we have to remember that this is a sitcom - many situations and character traits have been deliberately exaggerated, for comedy, you get it, right? But it's amazing how many people twist everything up to whiten Rachel completely and blame Ross for all of it. So let's talk about it, cause I'm tired of blaming Ross for everything:
1. Rachel ultimately didn't tell Ross that she loved him at the wedding, true, but she flew to London with that intention, and that's what counts because her mere presence at the last minute distracted Ross, it was evident. Not to mention how selfish she was, leaving Phoebe alone, pregnant, even though she was supposed to look after her. If Ross had acted that way, you' d hate on him, hypocrites.
2. People forgive Rachel everything, because she loved Ross, but Ross is bad, yet he made mistakes and bad decisions, also because of his love for Rachel. He was subconsciously, constantly thinking of her as the love of his life and that's why he said her name at the wedding. So love explains everything Rachel has done, but doesn't explain Ross. Again : bravo, hypocrites.
3. Ross never seriously talked about the list and "being just a waitress", many people conveniently leave out the entire context of the situation. Your beloved Chandler and Joey were the a****les who got him to write this list in the first place, it was their idea not Ross's idea, and more as a joke too, it was all for comedy, again - it's a sitcom. The 'fat ankles' point for example, was Joey's opinion and Chandler stupidly put it on the list. This scene fully reflects the essence of a sitcom, it's simply a situational comedy and a comedy based on an exaggerated trait of character - in this case, based on Ross's awkwardness and clumsiness, who always got caught in such bad situations through his own carelessness or naivety, often 'did' something against himself, due to pressure or requests from other people. That was what was funny about him and it was all for comedy.
4. Ross was jealous of Mark and then it turned out he was right about Mark. Secondly, everyone is jealous in a relationship sometimes, that is a human emotion. You blame Ross for everything just because he has human reflexes, but you use all excuses in the world for the other characters, even though they made a lot of mistakes as well.
5. Ross slept with Chloe when he was drunk - everyone forgets that. And when you're drunk, you do things that you would never do soberly, who of us didn't make such mistakes when drunk, after a party? Especially since Ross got drunk because he was devastated after Rachel broke up with him. And they were on break - fact. Rachel said to Monica, the girls - if I remember correctly - next morning, that she and Ross probably arent together anymore. She used the phrase herself in the context of breaking up, ending her relationship with Ross for good. It's amazing how people don't remember that episode or how Ross haters conveniently 'forget' to mention it.
6. Ross did everything he could for Rachel throughout the show. Here, it was Rachel's idea to throw a farewell party for Emily, just so she, Rachel, could invite and seduce Joshua. Ross agreed to help her, not to mention that Ross&Emily even stayed longer at this party so Rachel could do this stupid cheerleader dance of hers, and ruin their plans, because they lost their restaurant reservation. And that's only one example. It's evident Ross loved her all the time. She may have become a more independent woman over the 10 years, but some of her old traits that made up her 'rich daddy's daughter' personality, unfortunately stayed with her. She herself was incredibly jealous (when Ross was with Emily), she was very often selfish, and yes, directly and indirectly ruined most of Ross's relationships.
In the end, it doesn't matter, because the fact is Ross and Rachel were always going to end up together. I've seen some comments suggesting that the actress who played Emily was supposed to stay, but she got pregnant, but that's not true either. Emily was supposed to stay longer according to the original plans, yes, but she was never meant to stay until the end of the show.
I agree Rachel never respected the love which gave her in the whole 10 season she was always thinking about herself even it be friendship or relationship Ross always supported her

I love Ross and Rachel. They are my favorite couple and characters no matter what people say.
I understand that everyone is entitled to their opinion. When I read fans' comments and analyses, many (or most) of which are partial to their own favorite characters, I will never be able to enjoy watching this sitcom. I have some disagreements to your analysis here, but my comment is this: every character has their upsides and flaws.
Sometimes I do wish the writers could write the storyline and characters differently. But, anyhow, I love Friends. Just enjoy it. Overanalysis could ruin and kill the joy of watching it.
