This game is CPU bottlenecked. The main problem is the fact that Tarkov only uses like 1 core heavily so your CPU usage will appear to be low but that’s only the overall usage. If you go check the usage PER core you’ll find one core almost maxed out. Ex I have a 9900k and a 2080ti. @ 1440p my gpu usage is like 60% my cpu will appear to be like 30% but when I look at per core in Hwinfo I’ll have one core that is almost pegged at 100% so the 7 other cores are not really being utilized. This is why the new cpus with really good single core performance get 120 fps consistently in Live raids because that one core is just physically faster
Just bought a new 12600k (upgrade from 8th gen i3), I'm stoked to hear this. Now hopefully I wont be plummeting to minus 40fps when scoping in. I get like 70 - 90 fps without aiming
Edit:. I just built my 3060 + 12600k I'm getting 140+ fps on interchange and 110 fps in the center of interchange

small update - first slider decides how much ram can be reserved for MIP in Gigabytes . Second slider decides how much space can be reserved on your hard disk ( or SSD ) in Megabytes.
so when should you max out the ram usage then?
@@Altyno296 Never always make sure there around a Gigabyte clear, as Tarkov hates your PC maxing its ram.

@@s.hanabil8080 if you must use MIP try all the options below 16, I have 32 GB but I have selected sliders wrong so today I will retry it with reasonable values, but for now I did not notice better FPS, only very laggy end of raid that broke half of the times and I had to kill the game and launch it again

In the past I wasnt a big fan of mip streaming because it could result in stutter; I think the loading of textures 'can' put more pressure on the CPU, which is usually already struggling with the rest of Tarkov.
But I would definitely recommend giving it a try if you have performance problems. Mind that online raids can perform worse/better almost randomly sometimes, and that offline mode isnt really representative (no scav offline mode is easy on CPU, scav offline mode creates CPU load in weird patterns). Gotta go by feel sometimes.
Well it is mainly used to decrease load om the gpu, so ie, if u have a better cpu that gpu, you are going to notice a hell of a lot of difference like me lol, Ryzen 5 6700x and 1660ti with 2k res, so this is rlly bennificial to me lol
@@CamaGoesGym Yeh, it can be useful, Im just saying that you really need an extreme difference between GPU/CPU, because Tarkov puts so much more load on your processor.
And Im not sure if Mip streaming brings a benefit if you got enough memory.
Btw, since youre playing on 2k res. You might wanna check if you can activate AMDs FSR 2.0 when comes out. Its their DLSS equivalent and it runs on Nvidia cards too (assuming Nvidia doesnt block it).

Im running a 3700x with 32gb of 3600mhz ram and a 3070ti triple fan and i had high fps 110 plus besides light house but had super bad stutters some times and tried mip streaming and it took the stutter away, using high texture and high lod found helped alot of loading textures.

thanks for the video man. i needed this for lighthouse since i also run a 2070. it shouldnt need it since i can run most modern titles at max settings but with tarkovs optimization, i still need it in this case. i just hope BSG doesnt rely on these band aid fixes to not optimize the game better like they should, though it does help in the mean time. just still think this should only be an option for lower end PCs since most would consider 20 series GPUs and CPUs like the ryzen 7 3rd gen still on the high end side which in most cases can run modern titles at high to max settings with no issue.

Considering how heavy the CPU usage vs gpu usage is in this game, it seems odd to trade cpu usage for gpu usage...
That just means you have a better gpu than cpu. Mine runs opposite.

Haven't checked this iteration of mip streaming, but without the last one I sometimes was getting BSODs. Mip streaming made the game at least playable for me

I'm running A 3700x 8c/16t with a 3070ti and 32gb of ddr4 3600mhz ram and found I'v always had bad stutters for some reason on lighthouse more then anywhere but I tried MIP streaming and I was surprised it fix it for me. using high textures with lod set to 3000 and AF to per texture helped alot , with post fx on I still get easy 120fps on all maps besides factory gets double the fps on there.

I play a gtx 970 and got 60 fps lighthouse, 40 fps with long scope. Setting all off with TAA high, nvidia boost. How can you get same than me with that super gpu :0

For some reason when mIP streaming is on i actually have more lags and my game crashes when i extract for 2 min. Support told me to turn it off and all the problems dissapeared.
i have 2600x ryzen and 2070 super what graphics should i run at? (it would help alot if someone told me)
I recommend to all the people I help in Tarkov to turn Mip Streaming on and to up the buffer and disk limit based on their PC specs. I use it regardless of what map I am on, it offsets a lot of memory from the GPU and system in general and gives me a stable 60+ with the ability to then spend more on higher AA and Resampling (x4SS) which I think is much more important in Tarkov. Having the ability to see people off in the distance and not have them be a little blob blending in with the background. Or when aiming up, the red dot does not look like a ball of yarn! It's just way more important to me.
All that said, Mip Streaming does by no means solve some of the existing memory issues Tarkov has. Obviously, with more updates, they will get better and fill the holes. But with Streets on the way (another massive map) and with more interactive objects and physics-based environmental stuff on the way. Memory, both CPU/GPU and RAM is going to become a big issue moving forward. They plan to link maps together, have interactive physics, doors that can be blown off the frames and covers that can be destroyed. All that good stuff! But all of that comes at a big cost, especially in an MP game where basically every action even if you are not a part of it needs to be relayed back to your PC in some capacity. When you have random physics and bigger maps? It all gets costly to PCs and even to servers.
I also want to say that Tarkov as it stands, is the texture artist they have? They do just a phenomenal job of wrapping these 3D objects! My hat really goes off to BSG's team for making this game as playable as it is in its current state while looking very photogenic.

@@surgicalglitch3265 Yeah, i have a Ryzen 5 3400g, which is a 4 core 8 thread cpu, 14 gb of ddr4 2993 cl 20-21 RAM (can't change the speed because the motherboard is HP prebuilt bullcrap and 2 of my 16 gb of RAM are being used by the iGpu which is deactivated btw) and a Gtx 1650 Super 4 gb. My VRAM is always capped even at low graphics, expecially during the loading screen, but i'm not sure if my CPU is good enough either...

We need to know what your PC is to get a good idea of how it performs. Also you should have went to the same spot on lighthouse to compare FPS.

Ah see, I have a 10700k and an rtx 3080. I think in my case the GPU isn't the problem but my CPU is bottlenecking me a bit. I might give it a shot but I expect to see no improvements.

Axel can you do some tests forcing tarkov to use only physical cores? I got amazing results doing it using process lasso and also using a .bat i created to open tarkov with only physical cores.
Also play along the cores would be a good idea, try to remove most load of the core handling tarkov should free some load and help performance.

I do the same regarding the .bat file and i cant believe the difference in performance. completely removed all stutters from my game. glad to see someone else found that nifty trick

Question. Did you ever noticed issues with USB keyboard? Sometimes I'm losing my keyboard controls at the beginning, or during the raid. This happening only in tracov.

I wish this game's minimum requirements matched those on the website, when buying it I though it'd work great since it's on unity but it really seems like you need all the fastest, highest-capacity RAM, storage and processing units... Hopefully the upcoming games like Road To Vostok and Project Quarantine won't be as bad when it'll come to minimum requirements...
Okay so I have a question for anyone who can help (tried to give some context so sorry if it’s a lot): I’ve been playing tarkov for a couple years now and I have a system that’s gettin pretty old now (GTX 1060, i7 7700 cpu, 16gb of ram with 3gb of vram). I can run tarkov well enough that it’s playable where maps that have lower performance overall for everyone such as lighthouse and reserve I can get around 40 fps with some minor dips, smaller maps that perform better like factory run perfectly fine at 60 fps or for factory specifically I can get 120. I used to run MIP streaming before they took it out but game seemed to run fine for the most part without it while it was removed, although again being on an older setup I’d like to get the best performance I can. Im not the most knowledgeable when it comes to all this PC tech stuff, so should I keep running low graphics settings like I have been and settle for the at least playable performance I’ve been getting, or should I turn MIP back on and raise my graphics settings up a little bit? Or is there another combo of settings I should try that I might be missing out on that would help?
Isnt tarkov heavily cpu bound game anyway? this probably helps very few people, its nice but i think vast majority wont notice an fps improvement

My system will literally just not cooperate. Been through practically all settings on tarkov. Doesn't max my vram on my 2080. I have 32 gbs of ram 3000hz and an i7 10700k 4.66hz clock. Ram sets at about 59-60% use and cpu is at about 35%. All low textures and low settings and literally can't push passed 70 frames on lighthouse. Not only that but practically every other map will run at barely 80-90 frames with multiple frame drops below or at 60fps

FSR is huge for carsd like 1050 and 60, try it out.
i put my mip at 1 before the max on both options and its lookin better imo, have they announced the change to unreal 5 yet lol (imagine) but i understand (kind of) on how the graphics in eft suffers bcuz theres so much to the game that it takes from the graphic quality but the stability and optimization for such an old game/engine i don't get ? i think the whole game is complete but they have a very hard time optimizing new features and its taking them a long ass time to figure out.
Its not that its taking them a long time to figure out, unlike most AAA devs, these guys actively playtest their stuff, and have a dedicated playerbase also playtesting on the test servers and future updates. They arent half assing anything.
Right now they dedicated a good portion of their resources to finish Streets, which will be a *huge* map. They are likely running optimization passes and finalizing the map. Its still a work in progress but I think a good part of their effort there is going into perfoance.
well i started getting program not responding win errors after the end of every single raid count down and sometimes the game would shut down to desktop and i was thinking wtf i did last to make any change and so i disabled mip-streaming entirely and boom back to normal lol so ya i understand there trying and its not easy for them considering..

Think they cant, they would need to do huge reworks and rebuilding without knowing it would work.. plus this engine hates lighting. Shadows are a mess, moving sun live in game plus getting more fps on a cloudy rainy day than a sunny day lol.. rain always lower fps but not in tarkov.. god i hate this engine

Really the cpu is what's strained the most while playing tarkov unless you have a seriously low end gpu. In most cases enabling mip doesn't make sense if its causing more strain on the cpu. Check out the new amd 3d cpu.
I disagree 100% unless in offline i use way more GPU than CPU with R5 5600X and 3070 32gb, ddr4 3200mhz
So when you see your cpu usage. That percentage is the overall usage of your cpu so it may look like your cpu is only at 30% usage but Tarkov literally pegs one or two cpu cores. So if you have an 8 or 6 core CPU it’ll show the overall usage as low but if you dig a little deeper and check the usage per core you’ll most likely find one cores that’s near 100%. A lot of people miss that cause they only see overall percentage
@@odyx0 you're still frame limited by your CPU tho because the game is, as uninvestigated said, more CPU intensive... notice how when you adjust your graphical settings between high, medium, and low on same resolution, you don't notice a huge a difference?? yeah... that's why. I have a 5800x otherwise similar setup. uninvestigated is correct, and axel even underlines this... MIP streaming is specifically for GPU bottlenecks. further, it introduces latency due to extra calculations on the CPU... preventing the CPU from focusing on passing frame date to the GPU...
also ensure offline mode w/ AI scavs & bosses off to gain a true per map benchmark.
Tarkov is extremely CPU intensive. The reason its says its lower is because I believe tarkov only uses 4 physical cores, while the game can use your full gpu. Check your individual core usage and I bet your GPU does not hit 100% use. I have a 3060ti while my buddy has a 2060super. He gets like 30-40 extra frames since he has the new 12gen i7 (I have a i9 9900k). Uninvestigated is right about the 3d amd processor. Its actually retarded how much FPS you can get with that beast.

i dont think theres much u can do besides using lasso and overclocking , i also have the same problem as you do, unfortunately this is super cpu reliant its ridiculous honestly

For those of you saying Tarkov is only using 1-2 cores and causing a bottleneck try enabling "threaded optimization" within the Nvidia Control Panel specifically for Tarkov's .exe

@@Lemonpinesol bruh modern ryzen cpus have good single core speeds it doesnt matter anymore. Intel lost in the price to performance like the last 3 years. People who build pc's as a job (like me) almost never would opt for intel at this point unless its really for big video renders. 🤦

Yeah, same here. Tried it out, two crashes and then hefty stuttering when I ran into a pmc.
@@jjr5233 i found a fix for it I made virtual memory on auto it weren't as auto determined and now its no longer crashs with mip streaming (16 and 1024 settings ) idk why but It worked maybe try it dude or it could be your driver is kinda slow and mip streaming cant keep up with it ( no offence but idk dude i don't know your specs so I'm assuming it but i hope you'll find a fix :P )
I only have 3g vram and everytime i start lighthouse my game crashes and i get constant stutters and low fps. Anyone know a fix/settings to make it better?
bro, did you watch the video?
Look at your RAM speeds. If you have 2666 MHz, your pc most likely defaulted it to below 2000 MHz and will result in insane stutters/ 1fps the entire raid on Lighthouse. Try increasing it to about 2100 MHz in your BIOS setting or whatever it is you have that controls it. The faster the RAM speed, and the more you have, the better it is for Tarkov. Otherwise, you might have to consider getting better RAM, and at least 32 GB IF you want good performance. You can get away with 16 GB but it won't be that great.
3GB of VRAM is your limitation. Can't hack around that in settings other than setting every option to the absolute minimum.
You need more VRAM, the solution here is to throw money at the problem.

Sadly with how the game is so cpu reliant the majority of these settings will not be of much help, mip streaming, dlss, fsr, other than for resolutions above 1080p, I'd be completely willing to go a while with no content updates if it meant they focused on the utilisation of the ram and cpu, especially with how lighthouse's culling is broken now, meaning half the playerbase cant even run the map without blue screens, even on 64gb ram

I have a 3070TI, 32 gigs of ram, Ryzen 9 9550X.
I get great performance in any game. 120 FPS+ with settings on max or close to it.
Tarkov (with a ton of Nvidia control panel adjustments/settings adjusted) I get as low as 50 all the way to 135. It's very inconsistent.
I would say 70 fps is my average. I've noticed when I play as a scab on certain maps I always get a hundred FPS or more. Inconsistent frames drive me nuts. I'm on a break from tark ATM. Gonna come back when the games closer to it's final form. Hoping for arena mode sometime within 12 months.

When I enable MIP streaming I have hard freezes until I tab out and back in at some point during every single raid.
Had the same problem while having maxed out the MIP-S. disk usage limit, fixed the problem by going down to 512 (my ssd is 4 years old, idk).

All other games apar from CSGO which is having its own issues atm, I have no issue with. BF V / Elden Ring / Forza Horizon 5. These all run at max settings or near and I achieve 60+ No stutter.

I think the box example is simply LOD…
It just reserves the VRAM without MIP streaming. Just enable FPS 3 in console and look hat "VRAM usage". Its not 8GB. You wont be bottlenecked by VRAM with High Textures and Full HD as resolution. Most likly not even on WQHD
3070ti on 2k and i also do get stutters on lighthouse with high textures enabled. most maps are fine but lighthouse wants more than 8gb

How are you getting so many frames on lighthouse? I have a 9900k@5.2 all core and a 3900 with 32gb of ram. I'm going to be building my 12900k rig when I'm not feeling so lazy. I swear I used to get more frames with a 2080ti. I get 50-90 frames at 1440p with performance DLSS and everything maxed. I get lower than 60 when I use scopes with zoom.
:ighthouse is very CPU heavy. I have I9 12900k. that cpu makes a huge difference , same as Ryzen 3d.

Rengawr has a channel on his discord dedicated to getting more frames with nvidea, I did it and now get 70 frames on lighthouse with an r5 2600 1070 16 gigs
it's because it's offline raid, try offline raid without scavs and you gonna get good fps too.
@@Axel_tv thanks! Good to know that lighthouse will actually be enjoyable once I build my new pc. I've just been waiting to see if I should sell my new 850W G6 PSU and get a 1000W instead since 4000 series is coming.

@@swissmatic5283 been playing for years, always had performance issues, but since the last wipe everything is great, even with colorful postfx i get over 70 fps, no stutters so idk, i guess depends more on what pc you have.

@@jesseroberts1041 This is a breath of relief to hear. So glad its not me, I got a Ryzen 2600/ 16gb Ram/ 1070ti I Normally play at 1440p High Textures Medium shadows HBAO Off. With some Post FX, And for years had some issues we all do, But 90% time 60fps+
But its been slowly getting worse patch by patch, I miss how well the game ran for me back when they first added interchange, But granted there's a lot more for the game to do now on unity. as it is a limited engine.

I think they should just go ahead and transfer over to unreal engine 5 before release. The game might actually be able to run then
I9 9900k n a 2080 super here, been using dads settings without mip for awhile now. Cpu usually around 45% but gpu like 33% lol
Havnt had a crash on lighthouse anymore since i lowered textures to medium n shadows low
Think it was only crashing when i would watch buddys stream on discord and id be streaming on disc.. so weird only map i ever have issues on but seems to be good. Crazzy, great vid and very good info once again big Axe

probably not, you dont need to use MIP. Unless you are playing at 4K maybe

I gave up optimizing tarkov on my current rig, whatever I do it will look hideous and run like ass, we're talking 55 fps in factory, sub 40 everywhere else
I just hope that Arena will be lighter to run since there won't be as many IAs, if I can get constant 60 fps in fights I'll be happy

How well would a 1600 / 1800€ computer run tarkov ?
(I got a build in mind, that price doesn't include stuff I have like ssd m2 / watercooling etc, so it's mostly a beefy i7 and whatever new gpu I'll manage to get my hands on so I can bid farewell to my trusty yet dying GTX 970)
I'm really getting frustrated because on top of all the issues we all face, outside of tarkov's hardcore element, aka desync and the likes, I feel like I experience it times 10 because I mostly play on less frames than most people in raid, so I get less opportunities to "click the right ones" if that makes sense. It's most likely a bias, yet I can't help but wonder how easier it'd feel with a decent build
16GB of VRAM, MIP can turned off... :D
