  • Hi there! I'm eBike Bert. This is my 2nd video on CZcams. I'm an 80 yr old senior citizen who loves Ebiking! In this video I talk about some of the different specs of ebikes available. I love using the throttle because at my age, comfort is king. Let's talk about ebikes for seniors and also have a reminiscent story time of our childhood and love of bikes in the 1950s! eBiking can be a great way for seniors to get some fun and safe fitness in, that is if you lay off the throttle and actually pedal from time to time ;)

    Yes, e-bikes changed the life of seniors especially. I’m 76 yr of age, 6’1” tall and biked all my life, but since I got on e-bike rediscover the pedaling pleasure again. Major thing in picking the right e-bike for seniors is to find the maximum lighter foldable and step-through. Emphasizing on less weight e-bike as a crucial spec, since I gradually went from step-over to step-thru and foldable. But the latest one my puck instead of 65 lbs with battery dropped to 59 lbs gross weight and with easy removable battery integrated inside the frame securely even lighter (51.4lbs).
    Using a plastic container to place the foldable e-bike and then continuing without lifting sliding the tote to the trunk by using car dog foldable ramp. Not the most fat tires, neither the power or speed is so important for seniors than to be able independently to fold-unfold and easy store and transport. That’s why my latest pick, also below $1K is not only lighter, but 20”x3” tires, better maneuverability and in the same time all terrain, more compact size and upright less pains pedaling. Also the lighter & more compact e-bike is easier to pedal without electrical assist. Hope this info will be helpful not only for seniors but for all bikers that are looking for affordable, safe and in the same time quality components e-bikes. Happy pedaling and enjoying the closeness and accessibility of mother nature.

    Hey Bert I'm 63yrs. old with neuropathy and a lot of back issues not to mention I've had my hip replaced 4yrs. ago . I have been ebiking for over 4 years and it's my only form of transportation , currently I own a Wired Freedom and I love ebiking . I had gained so much weight with all my issues especially not being able to walk pain free until my hip was replaced . I have lost 40lbs by riding my ebike everyday weather permitting . Yeah sometimes I get dirty looks from the so called professional bikers on the trails , well they can just kiss my back tire cause I'm gonna enjoy myself and get in some exercise the best way I know how , so you keep on keeping on enjoying yourself as well .

    I am awaiting the delivery of my first E-bike, a Velotric Discover 1, just months before I turn 80! I've used my Bridgestone 26" for 35 years, but swinging my leg over the horizontal bar has become more difficult. A step-through bike will make getting on & off much easier. Also, I need to ride in an upright posture to avoid neck, shoulder & back pain. Last month, I rode my Bridgestone 15 miles roundtrip on the Red Cedar River Trail, but with the humidity, I was tiring fast & barely made it home. With an E-bike, I can let it help me home.

    To answer your question about the Harley picture you showed, That looks to be a 45 in. Flathead. Most likely a WLA model, this is a civilian version of the one the Army used in WWII.

    I can hardly walk even with a framme due to severe knee arthritis. My e bike has transformed my mobility even without a throttle (not legal here in U.K.).

      Sorry to hear about your knee. I know what that's all about.
      I use the throttle a lot, especially to get started.
      Thank you for your comment.

    I prefer the half twist over the thumb throttle cause you have more variation with speed. So you can easily adjust your speed accordingly.

    • @ebikebert
      @ebikebert  Před měsícem

      im thinking about converting to a twist, to turn it into a Harley! 😂 Did your bike come with the half twist? or did you convert it?

      @@ebikebert my old ebike did. my new one wouldnt accept my old one. But i had a motorized 2 stroke 80cc gas bike before that. and im not a mechanic so i ditched that bike and got a 1000watt fat tire ebike that im happier with. and it goes 31mph and has a 20ah battery that can go up to 100km or so.

    In the past couple days, Ive been on bike trails. I've spoken with people on electric bikes. They both essentially told me that without the electric bikes, they wouldn't be out at all. Go ahead and cheat.

    • @ebikebert
      @ebikebert  Před 3 měsíci +2

      Hi Daniel! Thank you for watching! At my young age of 80, I would not be able to be out on the trail either, thanks so much for understanding and telling me what others on the trails have said. Thanks for the cheat pass too! :) lol.

      I ride simply because I don't like to drive. Alternating between the Dutchy and the ebike keeps me healthy and lets my poor old knees have a rest, while keeping my legs flexible.
      Edit: 62 years old and counting! 😊
