Underlying the rolling hills of wine country, carved neatly into the southernmost peak of the Sonoma Mountains, is an iconic asphalt gauntlet, tamed by few, yet confronted by a courageous many.
Its original namesake, Sears Point Raceway, for Franklin Sears, thereafter named Infineon Raceway, has taken on an identity honoring the tradition of the Northern Californian, in all of its simultaneous aridity and lushness; a brashness, exemplified by a contentious battle with the edge. At Sonoma Raceway, there is precisely zero room for error. For those bold enough to attack the hills with horsepower, it's as much a battle with the road as it is with other drivers.
For the second time, we've had the great fortune of joining Eric Johnson Jr., a full-time ARCA Menards Series West driver, this time in the ever-challenging, rigid ranks of NASCAR for the General Tire 200 at Sonoma Raceway, where NASCAR Cup Series legends and upstart hopefuls alike have carved themselves into racing immortality.
