Funny how then a video with 2 million views is a worldwide viral vid, how times have changed!
Still loving these full Mythbusters episodes! Perfect nostalgia
It's fun to see just how much the internet has changed since then
was gonna write the same thing hahaha yes, is crazy
26:16 Wait, I can get Adam Savage to come personally to my house? Maybe I SHOULD try this at home.
Why would he go to some random person in the internet? ;)
@@lavarsch uh, because he said he would obviously
@@lavarsch "If I find out that you try this at home, i will personally come down to your house and kick you butt":- Adam Savage.
@@zerocalvin (it was a joke because of his username)
I do wonder how well the lego ball would have held together if they had used glue to hold it together, like some pro builders use occasionally.
Proper interlocking instead of bigger cubes would be so much stronger
Using flats would helped too.
Using flex glue would bust the busting of the myth
@@benslimen7001 og comment
Yea there was alot of techniques aparently they could have used but i also tought of glue as ive seen pro builders use that in bigger builds.
There was also no mention of not using glue or how they built the ball so technically i dont think we can call it a bust just yet ;)
Should ask Adam to review it again on his webshow!
The lego people were like: Nobody's gonna fact check this.
Mythbusters: Hold my LEGO
I was always bothered by this episode because of how they build the lego ball, it was always gonna fall apart when built like that (out of bricks of lego instead of the entire shape made out of pieces of lego that inter-connect a lot more)
Lol
@@suicidalbanananana the video is still fake though.
It's weird that the off-speaker is always on the left and everything else on the right channel.
i am glad i am not the only one wo noticed that
why is that weird? wouldnt it be weirder if its always different? since it's all probably exported in the same way.
I thought it was mixed for old tv speakers or something.
With surround sound inly the voiceover is on the left
I have a stereo speaker setup and the sound mixing on these videos is highly irritating since the narrator is also always too quiet for some reason.
Years ago when I was still in school I watched this and when Adam said: "I personally come to your house and kick your butt" I got motivated by that instead. So I started buying matches every week. At some point the people at the store refused to sell them to me. So I ended up with a smaller amount, idk how many. I set it off with a gas canister because it wasn't close to a million.
Fun times
hope he sees, because the series died a long time ago
you could have released a video
@@elonmarkuspagaragan5941 The video should be on my old channel but I can't find it. However it is in the video "I wanna see some explosions" on this channel, but unfortunately I didn't press record on my good camera and I only ended up with a supper crappy video a friend made :c Also it seems like people made videos with bigger amounts too.
Mythbusters out here with another classic. Its cool that we get to see these again
im so glad these are being posted officially now for free
Nostalgia hitting hard!
I have to say thanks for the Mythbusters team...grew up watching this series. Now I can rewatch full episodes on youtube. Thanks.
The Spinning Tire Fire myth was not tested anywhere near extensively enough.
Considerations need to be made when you look at the Australian burnout cars that regularly catch fire.... most of them are running race fuel, over 1000hp, and have rear exiting straight pipes with no catalytic converters. This causes the exaust to spit flames, which then can ignite the rubber particles coming off the tires.
Exactly...they should have asked an Aussie. czcams.com/video/PZnRcGuJbW4/video.html
It happens even when the pipes aren't aiming at the tyres. There's videos where the pipes come upwards out the hood, and the tyres still catch fire
You said it yourself though, that's a separate source of flame igniting the tire, rather than the tire igniting just off friction between it and the road.
@@AGrumpyPanda wrong
Break Rotors can get stupid hot and if a wheel is burning I'd guess it's because of them.
the original lego ball is so clearly CGI it's painful.
It’s also 15 years old
its just made of painted boxes
@@yourRandomMusic_creater only when they interact with it at the beginning. Every instance of the ball rolling is CGI
@@AwardWVP i know! That's what I mean, 15 years ago this video sparked debate when seeing it today the answer is painfully obvious. I find that kind of thing fascinating. The constant exposure to the internet, but also the easier access to creator tools, has forced us all to become much more media savvy than 15 years ago.
I think is not CGI because this episode was aired 2007. I am not saying that CGI didnt exist, but back then only big studios can make you that good of quality CGI.
I think could be just VFX. Green ball and some markers on the ball... and then After Effect...
P.S after i watched the original clip i just think this is not even a VFX, just made by cardboard and painted to look like Lego ball.
Spinning tyres definitely catch fire, watch Aussie Summernats burnout competitions, horsepower is the key.
Worth noting they use smoke tyres not standard tyres for that. Softer tyres make a bit of a difference too.
Also, straight pipes with no catalytic converters or baffles, and over 1000hp means flames often shoot from the exhaust igniting rubber particles being thrown from the tyres.
@@jarrodbright5231not true, all burnout cars I've seen and worked on used regular road tyres.
But they have a very long gearing wheel speed over 300km/h is common.
Also almost all burnout cars run exhaust past the rear bumper because methanol fires are a big deal.
If you can see the flames they aren't due to the engine...
It's the tyres.
They just took a stock car low on power and standard gear.
Psychics says the faster it spins the more friction will be and the more heat produced.
You need higher wheel speeds that weak little Camaro can't do.
@@dlmperformanceandracingburnout cars run the exhaust past the rear bumper and run methanol fuel
If you had a burnout car dump at the rear axle it would be dangerous because of methanol fires.
The thing is those cars are doing atleast double the wheel speed that MythBusters tested.
They need more power and a longer gearing.
love that the narrator audio balance is left speaker only for some reason lol
use only the right ear on headphones to a episode with no contextualization of what they are doing
Watching that Lego ball disintegrate in slow motion was art
I'm loving these full episodes on CZcams - it's so long in coming! 🎉
Brilliant! Happy memories.
Love all of you mythbusters!!!
yo team, the audio sonds weird since a few episodes back, it started from the 2 Hours special episode you uploaded
That original Lego ball in the youtube vid, to my eyeballs, looked like a single object. And I'm sure I saw it bounce, exactly the way a mass of bricks wouldn't.
But what do I know, I'm rubbish at physics.
The bowling ball cannon subverted my expectations in the coolest way possible.😸
Saw a comparison of matchheads and black powder in a flintlock pistol. It was very similar in power an reliability. Tries it myself too (but by crunching the powder off the heads with pliers) Took an entire large box of matches to get enough powder, but worked great
I used to buy boxes of wooden strike anywhere matches and attempt to make all kinds of explosives and stuff with them when I was a teenager.
28:15 dude has been in a fight.
I remember the legoball viral Video. Nice memories.
Lol I’m safe from the Adam butt kicking, because my buddy and I did something similar to the match head experiment, but used the scrapings from sprinklers in a coffee can before this episode came out
Full circle. Gotta love it.
Best show to date, alongside Top Gear.
I wish they'd put up the metric on-screen for the rest of the entire world whenever they use imperial
Man that bowling ball travelled fast!
At least they TRY to say LEGO and not "Legos".
As an Australian I instantly knew the answer to the car tyre myth 😂 most of us have witnessed it
As for the tire experiment, what about the fact that maybe there is not enough oxygen due to the smoke? So, if it was driving/moving, the smoke would be displaced with oxygen and you could get fire?? My husband's thought...?
40:05 I don't know who edited this but they were a genius
12:06 Those headlights are so cool! Makes it look like a sort of amphibian animal XD What car is this?
I think they may have reached peak chemistry in this one. I've been watching the series in reverse order and I'm not sure I see them enjoying each others company much after this. Did they have a falling out?
26:20 Okay, where do i get 5 million matches and a big bucket now? XD
375hp? Yep, that explains why they didn't get fire, they were about 1,000hp short of the Burnout Masters...
38:39 call me crazy but this piece of music recall me Ornstein and Smough OST from Dark Souls
each block of lego weighs between 1.64 grams and 2.5 grams......5 million would be between 8,200,000 grams and 12,500,000 grams which is between 18,000 pounds and 28,000 pounds.....thats 9-14 tons....It would do a HELL of alot of damage to a car
Original lego video is so obviously fake.
I'm not even convinced they made a cardboard ball, I mean, how would they not get ... maybe not arrested, but certainly questioned y police for obstructing traffic like that?
"safety" matches... seems pretty safe to me
One way to actually make a fully functional, even cordless, high rez "speaker" on a less-than-a-shoestring budget is to simply cutt a hole near the bottom of a Pringles-tube (or any other hard paper tube at your disposal), then putting a phone with clear, crisp built in speaker and alakazam, you've got some bass thrown into the mix!
Making a speaker from a speaker...
@@kaptein1247 It's actually more of an acoustic amplifier rather than a speaker. 🙂
@@josefolsson5343 thats my point😂. Its a cool trick, like putting your phone in a bowl. But making a speaker is something else entirely
I love the irony of a speaker myth episode with sound problems.
Lol I was so wondering about “narrator on the left” inside joke. Just tested and yah, Myth Confirmed narrator on the left
glue them together. now who is cleaning up? HAHA!
Fun to think that people couldn't identify the extremely obviously CGI back then
Jamie in red reminds me so much of Dr. Eggman from the Sonic games lol
So weird seeing the camera and audio crew standing next to the blast shield while the Mythbusters hide behind it xD
Really needs a reupload with the voice over to mono
Cannonball bounce foreshadowing
That youtube lego ball was mostly cardboard boxes.
I tried the matches at home...but with a firecracker in the middel...only used avout a 100 matches...but damn it was amazing
Yeah you're gonna need more than 200hp to set the tyres alight 😂
I can't believe people would just lie on the Internet like that
The Lego ball might have had a lot of smaller bricks also they probably glued the pieces together
that scene in the lego city, it legit just looked like they were giants
Amazing to watch the CZcams special on CZcams for free lol
Self-igniting tires are a regular occurrence in 2024 high-power drifting events. I can personally recall at least a few videos showing it.
Well, if I want to have a personal meet-up with Mythbusters, I just have to make a 1M. matches inferno. Hmm...sounds like a deal!
47:50 lard 👋🏻
There would not be enough oxygen near the tires for ignition to happen because of the thick fumes. You could probably throw a lit match on it and it would just go out.
I would actually be interested to see how would the 1000 000 matches would go off if you ignited it from bottom of the barel.
Would it go wooosh everywhere? As the flame would try to expand explosively outwards? Would it not go off that hard thanks to lack of oxygen?
Man, calling chlorate a fuel left a bitter taste in my mouth
my Problem with the Legoball was the "bigger Bricks" wo weren't interlocking within themselves... but anyhow...
Welcome to the sweatshop episode
Audio is screwed
nice edition the lego vid...
the match thing is true i used to do that, not that many but still.
I couldn't watch this one- the audio really needs fixing.
at the time Tory was dead on about the jack costs. I bet with wish you could get that cost under a dollar now :P
Only 375hp? must be a spec engine.
41:28 but do you know lego glue?
I've had tyres catch on fire from burnouts. In V6s as well. You ain't trying hard enough
Oil slick on the road to reduce traction?
@@growtocycle6992 lol no.
The lego ball might have survived if all the bricks were interlocking instead of building up larger bricks that were kind of seperated from each other. Would have been way more work tho
Nah, the same thing would have happened unless they apply super glue which is not part of the myth.
that big fireball reminds me of the giant candle in a pot i threw a bucket off water on made a much bigger fire ball way higher and less fuel (fuel water and candle wax combo)
Engines used to run on paraffin, which is candlewax. A candle in a pot heats a lot more wax (past the boiling point of water) than a regular candle. The water you threw on, instantly turned to steam, which expands to 1600 times the volume. The steam vaporises the paraffin and as it expands out of the pot, the steam/paraffin cloud is ignited.
This is what happens in a grease fire, but with grease being the fuel instead of paraffin.
1:40 I don’t know where that channel is…
God I love the people that say there scientific method or there testing method wasn’t good enough… just watch the show guys!
I dump the audio on my bluetoorh speaker to cut the sound issues here.
Also paying ten dollar for those cheap headphone cables is pretty overpriced.
One or two dollar would be an proper retail price.
the original vid of the lego sphere looks animated
Cant believe they didnt make a rocketmotor out of the matches
SumerNats has joined the chat.
About the speakers at 16:32, the MB crew did use shallower plates than the original. Doubt that the result would've been any different but still, details and devils and all that. Also: did they try both sides of the foil?
That wouldn't make any difference. At it's most basic a speaker works by converting electrical impulses into mechanical impulses (vibratory motion of the drum skin). The fake speaker design has no way of achieving that, and thus will never work.
As was said, this can never work. A speaker uses a copper coil around a magnet. By putting a voltage to the copper spool, the magnet moves. As it is attached to the speaker cone (the round thing you see), it moves that back and forth. That pulse of air is sound. Music is just a series of well timed pulses.
In the myth, both wires for the jack are taped to a coin. Nothing happens when you do that, especially at the low voltage speakers use. The only that could happen is that the coin heat up from electrical resistance, but you need more amps and voltage.
It is a nice fake hack, especially for its day. Looks a little bit like a speaker, so it looks like it could work if you never took a speaker apart.
Will a car stop quicker if you put it in reverse?
Obviously they have never see summernats in aus
I get the jist of if but come on that's so clearly a cardboard blocky ball.
They couldn't just lose out on some of that lego sponsorship $.
arghh, fix the mono issue please!! its annoying to keep switching over from mono to stereo whenever watching a mythbuster vid
first world problems. poor you
Ohhhhhh poor you
You mean the free episodes online that you are watching for free? You mean the sound on those? The free episodes? Yeah no well get right on that princess.
Skill issue.
Stfu all you morons. Try watching this with AirPods on. It’s so annoying I can’t watch anymore. It’s not a lot to ask for audio that every single other video on CZcams manages
How the hell do they only get 375 ish horse power from a v8
hmmm, apparently in my shop right now i have all the ingredients to build a cannon, just short a few thousands of matches. And patience.
WHat if they glued every piece down
what did tori do to his eye?
Lard
This show brings me back. I totally forgot about the huge crush I had on Kari, haha
That old CZcams design looks… old 😅
Why is the narrator only on the left channel?
Because it was made for tv. Not made as a movie, and most tvs at the time only had one speaker. I am only spitballing an idea here and I could be totally wrong. But it seems to me that they are using the original tv show. Another reason could be because the budget was not there to put it in stereo so they kept it mono sound. Again I could be wrong… it could also be a combination of both?
Can apply some audio gain to these? The volume is consistently low. Thank you.
Audio gain is fine, it's the mix that is all wrong. Use an EQ, like Equalizer APO, to fix it.
I'd just straight up downmix to mono, tis just one or two clicks to combine both
1000 manhours for 1 million stones is 17 stones a second?
They did have like 30 people working on it
Why is the narrator in my left ear
why is it weirdly stereo like that? Not very enjoyable
Its nice to see Jamie and Adam get alone so well for once on the match one, both genuinely seemed passionate about it.
Chemtrails ARE real. And suspect.
Why fake it. If you can make it.
The commentator = left.
