  • 2012-12-14 - CSA Astronaut Chris Hadfield, while training in Star City Russia, gives us an introduction to the Sokol ("Falcon") suit. This pressurized outfit is worn inside the Soyuz spacecraft during travel to and from the International Space Station (ISS). Hadfield will be launching on board the Soyuz December 19, 2012 to become Canada's first Commander of the ISS.

    That's a bit unexpected. The way you "seal" that suit, by implementing multiple folds that are literally tied off afterwords, is the exact same way they teach us to seal our waterproof bags in the US Army. Same fold pattern, same tie off. I always wondered "Just how effective can this really be at keeping water out?". Well, now I have a lot more faith in it, lol.

      +SkylerKing While I don't know the specifics, I would be very surprised if that seal isn't significantly better than the material around the seal (in your example, the bag itself).

      @KougaJ7 Před 7 lety +2

      In the army I suppose I could understand the use of this method of sealing, since we're not talking about air pressure but merely water. Also the fact that it needs to be able to be mass produced. For astronauts I would surely think that there would be a better and faster method for sealing the suit from external pressure, given the fact that there's only so few astronauts and they operate in possibly one of the most extreme environments. Maybe in the future?

    • @amperzand9162
      @amperzand9162 Před 6 lety +1

      Kouga forward looking designs have the astronaut climb in through the back of the suit, and then pull down the life support pack and seal it over the hole, essentially having a big, square, hard-rimmed door to seal with a gasket and fasteners

      Keep strong. Dont forget that despite the evil in this world, God is full of justice, mercy and love.
      Justice said we broke His perfect law - causing the world's previous perfection to be destroyed - and therefore we deserve Hell (like a punishment in any legal system but this is eternal as His perfect law is eternal too). Don't think you fit in that category? Ever done one of these?: lying, stealing - regardless of how small the object EVER, hating others - which is murder in God's perfect law, lusting (plus God sees our entire thought life). Justice says "the soul that sins shall die" - if we break one in thought/word/deed it's as if we're guilty of all of them. Quite simply, living by the law (which is doing everything perfectly) is impossible for sinful humans
      . The law shows us that 1. We will die in Hell if we fail to follow it and 2. We cannot save ourselves BUT, 3. God's perfect, immovable law points us to Christ, who followed and fulfilled the law in thought, word and deed perfectly in our place. He did what we couldn't and did it on our behalf. He was then sentenced to death on a cross, and took our personal punishment for our sin, paying our penalty (like paying our fine) completely FOR us, and has given us freedom.
      If we turn from the sins we have committed and repent (pursue the opposite direction of love through Christ) He will, overtime, recreate us back into that previously perfect image through The Holy Spirit which Jesus sends to all who accept Him as their personal Lord and Savior of their life. It's not about following the law - perfectly, as it's impossible - it's about letting Christ in to guide and teach you and obeying Him through His power (not ourselves as it's impossible without depending on His power and instruction).
      He is our substitute in His life, death and resurrection. He essentially rewrote history in our place so that, if you believe in Him, it will be as if you had never sinned if you accept Christ's death as our own in our place.
      He is in Heaven right now preparing a place for us so that He can take His faithful, believing children home with Him when He returns. He will ressurrect us from death when He returns, giving mercy to those who accept His love, instruction and teachings in their life, and give justice to those who refuse it.
      He doesn't want ANY of us to go to Hell and die for continuing in evil and rejecting His way to life, thats why He died FOR us. Hes giving EVERYONE a chance, He wants everyone to take the free gift of salvation from Hell. He wants us to be His and begin to follow His life of love and service through His power and abiding (staying) with Him. So long as we keep our hearts near to Christ through His strength, strive to follow His will of perfect love revealed in the Bible, and let Him lead in the midst of (very certain) pitfalls and struggles, we will, in time, win the ultimate victory over sin, pain and DEATH through Christ. Even if you are willing to be made willing, pray for Jesus to come in and He will do what we can't. Give us The Holy Spirit who will guide us in the right way.
      NOTE: You are NEVER too sinful or messed up that God cannot turn your life around through Jesus. EVER. Regardless of what you've done or what you're going through you CAN make it through Jesus.

    remember, the air pressure is from the inside of the suit. Bound up right, that hole would be as strong or stronger than the seams in the rest of the suit.. certainly not a weak link.

    The US suits simply use O-ring based locking rings, like that used for something as simple as waterproof flashlights. Not particularly hard to make. I would think the Russian system depends on suit overpressure to ensure nothing enters the suit, and that a small amount of outbound leakage is probably expected.

    This is correct. Your heart no longer has to fight gravity to pump blood into your head and brain, which cause massive headaches. Your spine is also no longer compressed by gravity so you can get pretty bad back pains too. I think the record for growth in space from your spine stretching out was about 2 inches.

      why would you change a simple tested technology for a more complicated, more expensive and not as well tested one? The problem they solve hasn't changed, so there's no reason to change the solution.

    Astronaut Chris Hadfield seems to move around easily in this suit but it seems so bulky that it looks to me like it would be difficult to move around in. I wonder if zero gravity makes it a lot easier to move around in a bulky suit? I would imagine so since you weigh much less in zero gravity.

    • @travismoss3492
      @travismoss3492 Před 9 lety +4

      It isnt really that easy to move around in. Most of the time it is pressurized, they are sitting in the Soyuz. once they confirm it has no leaks they depressurize the suit and its like wearing a big rain coat.

Quite simply, living by the law (which is doing everything perfectly) is impossible for sinful humans.
    How does this get fixed?
    Well, mercy said "I dont want to give them what they deserve. I don't want them to be cut off from Me. I love them despite all they have done/will do against Me. I want to give My children another chance. I want them to come home and live in My love again". But the evil had to still be dealt with, as God - being good - cannot simply let evil off scott-free. Like a judge can't let a murderer off scott-free, otherwise it shows approval of it.
    And so, love said "Jesus, God's Son, came down as a Man, our representative, suffering every temptation, pain and struggle we have ever faced, yet without sin. Living perfectly ON OUR BEHALF. He took all our sins (past/present/even future) to the cross and then crucified EVERY ONE on our behalf, like paying the fine to legally free us. Justice was paid on the cross so that we can be free from Hell's punishment, experience Gods mercy of forgiveness of sin and live in His love.
    If we turn from the sins we have committed and repent (turn away from our sin and pursue the opposite direction of love through Christ) He will, overtime, recreate us back into that previously perfect image through The Holy Spirit which Jesus sends to all who accept Him as their personal Lord and Savior of their life. It's not about following the law - perfectly, as is impossible - it's about letting Christ in to guide and teach you and obeying Him through His power (not ourselves as it's impossible without depending on His power and instruction).
He wants us to be His and begin to follow His life of love and service through Him. So long as we keep our hearts near to Christ through His strength, strive to follow His will of perfect love revealed in the Bible, and ask Him to help us in the midst of (very certain) pitfalls and struggles, we will, in time, win the victory over sin, pain and DEATH through Christ. Even if you are willing to be made willing, pray for Jesus to come in and He will do what we can't. Give us The Holy Spirit who will guide us in the right way.
    NOTE: You are NEVER too sinful or messed up that God cannot turn your life around through Jesus. EVER
