You know gaethje , alvarej , dustin , ... They fight like animals , they will take you in the pockets & start throwing punches repeatedly . But Conor never does that , he waits for them to pounce & dodges & gives a solid counter left which generally makes his opponent go flat on ground . But against Poirier it was different . He got easily takendown , he was missing his shots , was easily getting hit by Dustin & overall he was very flat footed & passive . He bacame what he swore to destroy when he 1st entered this division which is stiffness & stuck in the mud. I hope he regroups & finds follies in his game & comes back stronger than ever .

Aldo went into the McGregor fight with full of emotion and complete hatred for the guy, and that was his downfall, he just wanted to attack him head on which was a big mistake for Aldo, and McGregor knew he was going to do exactly just that, waited for the moment for him to rush in and capitalise on the moment, timed it perfectly with a powerful left shot that caught him flush straight onto his chin that dropped him and then took him out with a hammer fist before the referee stopped the fight, Aldo basically lost the fight in the build up to the actual fight, McGregor got into his head and under his skin so badly that it actually tore aldo apart, mentally, and that was his downfall.

when conor showed up he shook everyone because he had something that at that time the ufc didnt have and he was overconfident about it and it worked for him.. he had great boxing distance management and excelent understanding of striking traps and baits, he would get people angry to make them more jumpy in the fight and more eager to ko him, he would trap most of their strikes with his stance and lead hand leaving only 1 big opening and 1 big strike that to experienced fighters looked like a "oh you messed up amateur" mistake but he baited them to it and countered it perfectly, just rewatch his fights, even before ufc, his chin always high yet hes always aware of the coming strikes, his lead hand holding the others lead hand to discourage lead hand punches , his rear hand always down to bait big punches like the power overhand, cross, and his head was mostly towards his opponent ahead of his hips so when his opponents moved he knew it would 90% be a power rear hand punch, he would slightly fade back with great distance management and then snap back in with a confident counter left... which what happened to everyone until eventually people started to figure out conor, and when he boxed mayweather (who was way ahead of him in this game since that was floyd's specialty) he kinda felt like the shit he used to sweep over the ufc was getting old and so he didnt show up, and with the dustin rematch you could see him try to implement the same style but poirier had already seen it and knew by doing this your lead leg is exposed and he did great job at punishing it, i dont expect conor to leave the 10-5 top contenders mark from now on unless he spices up his striking a bit more and brings newer things (which he could do if he was as serious about the ufc as he was back then)

He used to have great intuition of his skills and his opponents, and he's still a talented guy but he may never be the exact same again. In his twenties he outworked everyone, he lived and breathed the sport and nothing else mattered. Now he has some living behind him, other things in his life, and he's in his thirties and outworking everyone in your thirties is slightly different to doing the same in your twenties. Your body can change.
