- The Whitefield Project for the Arts and Culture presents Season 02 Episode 03 of ‘The Engineer’s Pick’. This episode features a garland of four flowers - four compositions in four languages, collectively called as ‘Threshold’; and performed by noted singers MD Pallavi and Bindhu Malini. Today’s episode is a shortened version of a near 90 minute production of the same name by the same duo.
‘Threshold’ is a musical conversation between the artistes. The production celebrates the journeys of women across continents and across generations through the stories of Hypatia, Agnodice, Kharbaoucha, Fanny Mendelson and the songs of Lalla, Lingamma, Neelamma, Goggavva, Sule Sunkkavva, Nina Simon and Meera. MD Pallavi and Bindhu Malini weave together a journey of the woman; their soulful voices are accentuated by the melodious accompaniments of the harmonium, flute, kazoo, swarmandal, udukkai, bells, ghungroo, shakers, kartal, melodica, rainmaker and the banjo. Where and when available, we encourage you to see the full production.
Thank you for the resounding reception for Episodes 01 and 02; we really have been overwhelmed by your love. ‘Threshold’ premieres TODAY (18 March 2021) on CZcams at 12 noon. Do share widely; nothing can be more helpful to artistes than receiving appreciation for their arts.
Curated and produced by sound engineer and artiste Anish Ponnanna, The Engineer’s Pick is a curation of Indian compositions in Indian languages sung and performed by Indian musicians. The compositions are delivered in a raw and minimalistic style, with extraordinary attention to the sound detail. Where possible, emerging artistes are discovered and featured on the channel.

Both you guys are doing an amazing job!
Kannada's very own Coke Studio
Thank you for the compliment. But this is very different. All the episodes are live performances from the musicians, unlike Coke Studio where they do lip sync for previously recorded audio.
Восхитительно!
Very melodious. Kudos to Enginee's Pick for picking two lovely humans to sing.
The sharana composition is itself so pregnant with Vedantic purport. It has been so beautifully brought out by this duo. Kudos. More of such pieces from the various traditions across the spiritual world are welcome.
I’m guessing you meant “poignant” and not pregnant 😀
Bah. Excellent conception. Carnatic music meets Mira Bai.
Wish you all the best in your musical journey.
lingamma's poems were so nice.
Pure joy listening to the 2 wonderful ladies. More power to them. My soul is filled with happiness today.

The value of anything is by appropriateness. Threshold is valuable and appropriate.

Yay! I got here on time!!!!
Finally!
Welcome back!
Also, I am so happy I get to watch it for free.😂
Please consider song ranganayaka rajeeva lochana and other purandara dasara songs only 1 voice is there on youtube for many of the beautiful music 🙏
Crossing the line has so much meaning especially in the light of the fairer sex... Hope more cross the threshold because that's where the genius lies
Wow what a mesmerising performance and the highlight is in between the ಶರಣರ story telling it's fantastic......... I like it so much.
Loved the presentation. Especially loved the Tamil composition.
It was a Malayalam composition :)
@@TheEngineersPick Oopsies! Knew something was off, haha!
very cool..
Thank you Fali :)
🙏♥️
This is like a new genre of music where both the music and meaning of the song is given importance, you guys should name the genre as well
or is Threshold the name of the genre itself? My bad didn catch it the first time, I tot it was the band name : )
Hi. Threshold is the band name. This performance doesn’t particularly belong to a certain genre.
@@TheEngineersPick oh then I understood correctly, they should name their genre it is very unique and beautiful
I’ll convey this to them 😀
Balihari 🙏🙏🙏
The lingamma vachana is interestingly not about men-women divide at all, it is about the experience of losing the tripuTa-the separation of the seer, the object seen and the sight itself! The sharaNas were more interested in shoonya sampaadane - the experience of the oneness than any other lesser, mundane motives like gender divide , class divide etc., though there might have been subtext of protest against all divisiveness.
Though melodiously sung, the beautiful theme around which the vachana itself has been created seemed lost in the din of the ideological overtones!
I will go back to enjoying the soothing melody and ignore the chatter!
Thanks for the feedback.
I loved your explanation
🙏
🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
can I know the name of the song being played at 17:00
Tumba chennagide.....Adre kannadadalli matadidre chennagittu.... Matte Vasu anna irabekittu
Does anyone know what is the name of malyalam song
Dissolved !
Malayalam song was 🔥
Thank you
what is it called

👌👌👌👌👌🤝🤝🤝🤝🙏🙏🙏👏👏👏👏❤️❤️❤️
15:30 , 20:30 , 9:58
Sharanu🙂
Sharanu Sharanarthi
Very nice, I enjoyed it. But i think Turiya is the last and there is nothing beyond.. Turiya itself is nothingness or bliss whatever you call. Please correct me i am wrong.
Please upload kannada & hindi separate videos
No
Looks like what you have pick is bhakti geetay and the your singing style is bhava geetya which is not so soulful as it could have been.
But really like the fact that you have given prominence to voice over instruments
Neither Bhakti Geethay, nor Bhava Geethay. There is no particular genre that I can fit this into. They’re talking about gender and caste system. Sometimes we need to look past boundaries.
@@TheEngineersPick agree about boundaries.. it sounds great but not soulful. Like when you had picked anayana bhat it stirred my emotions, again when you hear pallavis 'amma nina yaday' again their were tears in my eyes. Looks like the genre of poems and songs they have picked in threshold are great but the composition or style of singing is melodious but not stirrings our emotion..
No offense i usually like your choice and both pallavi and
I hope you like the other videos 🙂😇
Explain in Kannada. Majarty of people enjoy.
Hello palavi mam ,mam I need to practice music with ur troop plz mam can u plz join me to ur troop or music institute can I get the details mam .plzzzzzzzzx mam i am not that good singer but I love singing I can try singing good mam plzzzzzzz
Kannada madthadi medam
why cant you explain in kannada ,when your singing kannada song ,Im not trying to be linguistic ,saying it because even people who know only kannada can also catch up.
why do you need an explanation in kannada when you are singing in kannada
There is something called old kannada (halle kannada) which cannot be grabed easily by everyone ,what ever she is singing is old kannada ,what we use know is new kannada (hosa kannada) ,so basically it has to be changed from halle kannada to hosa kannada for everyone to understand
@@gokulnaidugo how do you account for different dialects and intellectually deficient listeners .
hey explain in kannada officer , where are you .
@@rammohan1991 what are you trying , your inviting me to fight? ,
Still i am not understanding whats your problem , i said since song is in kannada , she could have explained in kannada also ,
i have cleared mentioned im not linguistic ,
i love kannada and i respect other language , i am not kannada master , kannada literature is ocean ,Nobody can master it ,
It is like stupid hippy music
God bless the Hippies and you also.
