    I bought one of the acrylic resin models just before the factory went on their annual August vacation. They shipped it out on the first day of the vacation, which really impressed me. The pen is simply a joy to use. The quality is the equal of my Leonardos, and everyone knows me to be a Leonardo fanboy. The price is lower than a comparable Leonardo. Last year, I bought a rosewood ebonite MZ, and it is a pen I dearly love, but the price was nearly double the price for this pen. In September, I'll buy either a Nonagon or a Calypso.

    • @arnauuu1
      @arnauuu1 Před 3 lety

      Owning one, I would absolutely recommend the Calypso; it feels so substantial, sophisticated and luxurious that almost any other pen feels cheap in comparison. A true piece of craftsmanship rarely found these days.

    Stephen, lovely review as always. Interesting as I have the "sand" version of that pen and the cap does post securely, so interesting that that one does not, maybe a slight variation in the production. Agree with you that it is a fun pen at a great price.

    Thank you for the helpful review. I have been looking at Santini pens online for some time and saw some of them at a pen show but have not ordered any yet. Darn it, you're convincing. Very pleased you reviewed the flexy nib version since we all know such nibs can vary in performance.The one point I wanted to add is that I have been impressed by the variety of colors and styles Santini offers. Some are quite unusual and original, which makes the pen an even more desirable choice.

    I've learned about Santini pens a couple of months before and I was impressed!
    The regular edition of Libra sells here for €300, so that makes its cost a little more reasonable, for all that it offers. Really interesting pens. Thanks for the review!

    Stephen, my Santini Libra in Sienna with a Cursive Italic nib arrived yesterday, and I love this pen!!! Like you, I can’t say enough good about it, and whatever shortcomings there may be are truly of little consequence. It is, as you discovered, a wet and juicy writer, but that is simply part of its charm. Katrina at the factory was extremely helpful in assisting me in selecting the pen and nib, and this included a video of my writing, which the company’s nibmeister reviewed so that I could select my nib. All in all, I’m entirely happy, and I think anyone who purchases a Santini pen will be too. It is certainly worth saving your money to buy this beautiful writing instrument.

    Thanks for reminding me of this under appreciated brand. I find what's more interesting about Santini Giovanni is that he also owns Ancora pens and appears to be the current owner of the OMAS brand with promises to resume production of Paragons and 360s. I wonder whether the Santini Nonagon is a practice run for a new Paragon?

  • @katjaengelkamp3452
    @katjaengelkamp3452 Před 4 lety +2

    Thank you, Stephen. Great timing! I was in contact with Katrina from Santini yesterday about a future Nonagon. I had the pleasure to write with one, with a stub nib, and was very very impressed. I think your review confirms that impression. Nice!

      By the way... I don’t really bother it not having an ink window. My Scribo Feel has none, Visconti HS Bronze Age neither. I somehow ‘feel’ when it is almost empty and never carry just one pen. Advantage of #stayhome.... always all my pens around...😊

    Ah, thanks so much! I have a "special" birthday/ life event coming up in '22 and have been casting about for a special pen that's not crazy expensive (so no LB5 for me!). I think this may tick all the boxes. I see on the Santini site that they have a number of different models/price points (seems related to the pen material) even if this spectacular cherry ebonite is gone.

  • @TheDanielbarboza
    @TheDanielbarboza Před 4 lety

    Wow, what a beautiful pen! Unfortunately, it's out of my price range, specially with the current exchange rates, but I'd love to get one of those someday! I haven't heard of this brand before. I always like to get to know different things, so a special thanks for that! Thanks for another great review. SBRE Brown, would you consider using another pen for comparison? I think the parallel is quite an unusual pen, at least I can't really tell the size of the pen in that comparison. Anyway, thanks for another great video!

  • @David-dc4kq
    @David-dc4kq Před 4 lety

    Much appreciation!! Based on your experience with Santini in your (2?) reviews, are these solid pens? As in, does there seem to be a worry of breakage in an internal piston that can only be fixed back in Italy? Thanks for your time here and for all your videos!!

  • @rztour
    @rztour Před 4 lety +1

    Stephen....writing sample was awesome. Especially your rapid-fire demo of straight downward stroke line variations that showed no skips. If that’s typical of an ebonite feed it’s worth it, even if it’s necessary to exercise extra care to keep it from a leak here and there. The camera didn’t necessarily pick up even a red hue, so I’m not sure about calling the color cherry, but it’s still a beaut!!!

    Mr. Brown, Thank you for making me smile!
    Few comments:
    1. The ink probably came from the cap.
    2. There are plenty of acrylic non limited Libras which sell for lower price (and in my eyes look even better).
    3. Now I'm certain that my next pen will be a Santini, but it will probably be a stub (actually I'm considering buying one for about two months).

It is everything I had been led to expect, beautiful to look at, comfortable in my hand, and gives great satisfaction in writing, and I think very reasonably priced for such quality and satisfaction. I really have to wonder what you are thinking about in those first few moments of each video where you are looking pensively off into a middle distance… penny for your thoughts (I saved a bunch of Pennies for just this purpose). Also how did you get green ink all over both hands, when the pen seems to have an orange-brown kind of ink… that is magical. Rock on Mr. Brown

    Beautiful pen and a great review. I think your “pen leak issue” may have been due to posting the cap just prior to the occurrence. It’s just residual ink in the cap falling in the barrel. This is one reason I avoid posting. This is a beautiful pen. Too bad it’s limited

  • @diegocatalanoferraioli6557

      @Albert Puig hi Albert! I get a flexy italic cursive, left oblique, M nib from Giovanni Santini. I am a lefty and I love this nib. I am using it for everyday writing, and I find that it has the right amount of flexibility, but still perfectly usable even for quick notes, and no skipping nor railroad. I do not have the MB149, but I have a Pilot FA. I find the Santini more flexible than the Pilot FA. Thanks Albert!

    W H A O W ! ! ! DrStephen,,, that pen is S E X !
    Well I think so, but I'm bizarre, ,, so I'm told, ,, often,,, hmm !
    Ah well, , anyway that pen, ,, omg. . Cherry Ebonite and a wonderful size and shape. .. 😨
    It certainly ticked my boxes but I'm skint, seriously skint or I'd definitely be after one of these pens, I'm sure whatever Ebonite Santini will use for this model would be attractive.
    Another no bullship video showing ink on your hands off this pen and I feel the explanation for this is that Murrey had filled it to the gunnels with that nice green ink because as you pointed out, no ink window and your friend didn't want it packing up on you,.. I think the ink came out of the cap when you first showed us that it doesn't post. Had you been wriggling it about prior to recording? ?? But hey DrStephen, ,, no editing or starting again, , your a honest man, ,, er,, dude !
    Will you say what your findings are about the ink 'dribble'. ?
    SBRE ink would be a real good match for this pen I reckon.
    Thanks DrStephen, your ACE.
    Best wishes to all PenPeople, ,, be as happy as you can in the present circumstances. .. mind how you go.

    99% sure that ink came from the cap. Ebonite feeds with flex nibs may be amazing to write with, but they leak. A lot. I guess because the feed gets so saturated with ink. It's a shame because it's my favorite nib/feed combo
