“The only way forward is together.” Definitely up to interpretation. I could say the same thing to a herd of cows that are my only food source. Neo tells the architect that they need human beings to survive and the architect says something about a level of surviving that he’s prepared to do. I think this is the collapse of the matrix and the deletion of all unnecessary programs. Perhaps the Oracle would be unnecessary and deleted. I think this is what really motivates her. And as far as her lines at the very end, “what about the others?” Definitely programs, not humans.

Humans need machines and machines need humans. In a way the matrix itself is a paradise compared to the post apocalyptic hell that the real world has become due to the greed of the humans in starting the war and attempting to exterminate all of the machines instead of maintaining peace. It's true that the machines use humans for energy but at the same time they are allowing humanity to live a full life inside the matrix blessfully ignorant of what the world has become at the hands of humans while at the same time providing the refuge of Zion for those whom have awoken instead of downright slaughtering these awoken ones. The machines only kill a human when it is absolutely necessary to do so for the protection of the matrix.

I think I get what you're trying to say. I think the Oracle's plan is to make machines more human, or rather take humanity from humanity and bring them to the machines, making a new creation.
Suri is an example of this concept, and I am leading more and more to the idea that Neo is a program that either thought he was human, or somehow merges with a human every cycle. It's why Neo had to "die" in order to awaken to become the One. It's like restarting your computer after an update is downloaded. The program lies dormant until the start up process begins working.
The Oracle doesn't necessarily want to kill the humans but she doesn't want the Matrix to end either, she seems to see it as beneficial for both groups. And although this is really towing the line to say, systems of control aren't inherently bad, it all depends on who is in charge of said system that makes it bad or good.
Systems are neutral, and all around us. They are in the plants, weather cycles, bodily processes. I think this is also what Neo learned, as Smith to me stood for the inner rage and disgust of systems in general and the urge to overthrow all of it, which would just lead to nothingness for everyone.

She was never an observer. She was the intuitive programme who discovered choice is the foundation for a successful matrix.
Before that discovery, the first 3 iterations failed, the humans couldn't accept the system. They didn't believe it, causing many to disconnect early and die.
After the third iteration, the oracle discovered choice was the key, enabling the matrix to have a 99% success rate. The 1% who reject it are allowed to escape to the zion in the real world. Which in turn is just another way for the machines to control humans.
She may have devised a plan for this iteration where it left the humans better off than in previous versions. But it would be very wrong to say she was an observer, she is the complete opposite if anything.

I believe the Oracle to have developed empathy through her designed purpose of understanding the human psyche. This greatly changes the assumptions you can make about her intentions, yes she's a machine, and she manipulates things to go as she desires, but she is no longer a form of control, even if in exile her primary function is to understand human psychology. There's only one way to do that, and that's to study them while they're alive, so brokering peace between machines, and humans is in her best interests.

I think an easier explanation for the Oracle's choice of words and demeanor is simply that she knows that if you tell a human they are the savior of the entire race and the fate of existence is on their shoulders, they're going to be skeptical at best, or completely freak out. (Unless you're Morpheus, who I bet, deep down, really wishes he was The One) Especially considering Neo having to change his entire worldview after waking up to the real world. You can't wake someone up from the worlds most vivid dream after 20+ years, to a post-apoc wasteland, AND tell them it's their destiny to fix everything.
The Oracle also knows that a choice made is stronger than a choice forced. When Neo shows skepticism, if she had said "You have to listen to me! Or we're all doomed! You HAVE TO!" Neo would push back. But when she says "You don't know if you can trust me or not, you have to make the choice." She's giving him autonomy over his destiny. She wants him to make the choice. Because if it's not his own conviction behind the decision his will would not be strong enough to see his "destiny" through to the end.
The Oracle is the perfect "sensei" or "spirit guide" or whatever we want to call it.
I think the things you point out as her manipulations (regarding adding code to Neo visa vi love through Trinity) are part of a larger end game plan to truly save humanity; and perhaps the machines as well.

I'm not going to say that this theory is wrong. All this being theory, all theories are equally valid. However, I think there is something not being considered.
What's important about the One is its *choices.* Neo's path is different from the previous anomalies because he sees beyond just the choices offered to him. He takes the choices *not* offered or advised, but perhaps the Ones that came previously allowed themselves to be more easily swayed by the advice of those around him or her. This would have negated choice. Perhaps the path of the One falls farther and farther from prediction and control the more times the anomaly presents itself until we reach Neo.
As for the Oracle, I always thought it was short-sighted to believe she only helped the humans. She would see all the inhabitants of the Matrix as under her care, and her guidance would be for the welfare of everyone, human and machine alike. Her choices and guidance would lead to the best solution for everyone involved, not one side or the other. Consider, for instance, the story of Sati.
Neo meets Rama-Kandra and Kamala - and their daughter Sati - while trapped in the station controlled by the Train Man. Rama-Kandra explains that they have made arrangements with the Merovingian for Sati to stay in the Matrix while they face returning to the Source and deletion. We even see Rama-Kandra and Kamala leaving the Merovingian's restaurant when Neo, Trinity, and Morpheus arrive during "Matrix Reloaded," but when we next see Sati she is staying with the Oracle. *Rama-Kandra does a deal with the Merovingian and Sati ends up staying with the Oracle.*
While - I agree - there is little love between the Merovingian and the Oracle, they obviously have some kind of working relationship. I believe this indicates the Oracle's position of trying to use what power she has to try to make the best of a bad situation for everyone involved: the Machines and the Humans, the powerful and the lost.
(As a side note, I personally believe the Matrix is more than one level deep and we haven't actually seen the real world in any of the movies. Neo having super-powers in the "real world" just doesn't make sense to me, unless it's just another layer in the Matrix. Perhaps revolution is just another system of controls, who can say? I think that the Oracle is truly trying to help the humans, but I also don't think she's telling them everything. She reiterates that "you can't see past the choice you don't understand." Perhaps the humans need to discover for themselves they're still in the simulation to survive the revelation. Morpheus knew that revealing the nature of the Matrix to a mind unwilling to accept the truth was dangerous. Perhaps there are deeper depths the humans just can't fathom yet. I don't know, but I don't think the Oracle is working against the humans or for the machines.)
Thank you for your consideration, and have a fantastic day!

I have come to totally different conclusions, but differences aside, thank you for pointing out the Oracle and Merovingian's possible working relationship. I never noticef that. Still though, it could be wrong and theyre just bitter enemies, and Sati only ends up with the Oracle because shes an orphan with knowledge of the Matrix (and possibly special abilities?) Just like all the other kids who end up with the Oracle. Thanks though for the food for thought.
To Anyone reading this, Heres my theory: Maybe ANYONE could have been the One? If they become enlightened enough? Maybe it only happens to Neo because he's practically forced into the role by every other character and circumstance (Causality) but it only REALLY happens when he chooses the role, and beleives. So maybe any human could have done it. Its not necessarily what i beleive but great thought food

@@echofiend3722 I think it is one of the hallmarks of a great story that it allows for speculation and seemingly supports so many points of view. My own are definitely minimal-establishment/pro-individual with a large helping of believing in personal growth through mental exercise (which, in me, is expressed by Buddhism amongst other things), and I have no doubt that my view of the story told in the Matrix movies is skewed to those motivations. The joy of public discourse is you get to see the familiar through unfamiliar perspectives, and I have enjoyed all the replies to my speculations, including yours.
The Oracle and the Merovingian would be strange allies, indeed, and I don't know how much I believe they would actually work together. The idea actually came to me while I was writing because Rama-Kandra never mentions the Oracle, only that he did a deal with the Merovingian. I feel like if he'd also had contact with the Oracle - the "mother" of the Matrix - he'd have probably mentioned it. So, there's a mystery there about how Sati came to the Oracle by way of the Merovingian. The actual truth is probably that the writers wanted Sati to turn up again later in the story, and the easiest way to do that was to put her with the Oracle since she's known to have an "extended family," but those of us watching get to speculate how such a thing could be in the narrative causality of the Matrix universe. It's a mystery, and as Neil Gaiman once said (through Cain): it's the mystery that endures, not the explanation.
As for your theory that anyone could become the anomaly, I can see support of that, and I have wondered about it myself. Spoon Boy is a prime candidate though, while he seems to have the ability, he seems to lack the desire to choose to become the leader that the One needs to be. The Kid - also known as Michael Karl Popper - could also be a candidate. In the episode of "The Animatrix" entitled "Kid's Story" he frees his own mind from the Matrix without a red pill by killing himself in the Matrix and "self-substantiates" himself into the real world through his faith in Neo. He chooses to ignore his own power and blindly follow Neo instead. Neo, however, can be seen to be driven by those around him to become the One in the first movie, particularly by the actions of Morpheus. Without those expectations, perhaps Neo would have been someone else.
Thanks very much for your consideration, and have a great day!

The Oracle has more meaning to it. Stick to this please, you'll love this. Bear with me, as i'll explain too how Neo fits with Greek mythology, AND a potential character for Neil Patrick Harris.
I'm surprised this hasn't been touched on this channel yet, as Morpheus 'the god of sleep' has been.
Oracles were thought to be portals through which the gods spoke directly to people.
In other words, the Machines to the humans.
In computer science an oracle is a black box that is always able to provide correct answers.
The Oracle in the matrix thus is a mix of this.
What's interesting too is that, like the ancient Greek Oracle Mythology, there were several 'oracles' that answered to respective 'gods'.
Two 'important' ones are Apollo and Zeus. Looking at how the Matrix unfolds and looking at the Architect, and his relation to the Oracle,
it's clear to conclude the Architect actually is the 'matrix' version of Zeus, and as the scene with Neo, 'seated in majesty' like depicted in ancient greek art.
Zeus also controlled mankind by his desire to wipe them out. So the Architect is 'Zeus' and The Oracle must be the equivalent of 'Dione' or sometimes also called 'Diana.'
Dione is the female description of 'god' (dios). Interestingly, Dione - in mythology - has been refered to being a variety of 'dieties', also adressed to for example 'Aphrodite', the godess of love.
In the Matrix Revolutions, adressing the fact that the original Oracle actress passed and as such the Oracle is portrayed by a different actress, gets explained as 'making a choice' that cost her more than she wanted to, and Neo recognises bits and pieces, the Oracle clearly has done this before, and is fitting with changing her appearance to become different as the purpose needs.
Perhaps also interesting, is that in greek mythology, Persephone is the daugher of Zeus and Demeter, and the Queen of the underworld (dead). Seeing how she and the merovingian 'rule' the 'nightmare' matrix remnants, 'the exiles', this brings in more interesting parts. After all, Persephone was 'abducted' by the KING of the underwolrd, Hades.
This is confirmed by the fact the Merovingian runs 'club hel', aswell as the elevator when Morpheus, Neo and Trin meet him has a 'help' button scratched down to 'hel'.
Something interesting to take though, it is revealed Trinity's name is Tiffany. And tiffany comes from greek Theophania, which is the 'manifestation' of a deity to humans.
This thus can be directly translated as the manifestation of a machine program to a human, and would definately make Trinity a program, as Trinity manifested into 'zion', the human world.
We have already seen that the program 'Smith' was able to manifest himself into the 'real world', so it's far from impossible Trinity doing so too, even if she's aware of that or not, her name being 'tiffany' says a lot about her origins. This leaves an ultimate interesting question. Who then, is NEO. Thomas Anderson?
This channel has mentioned that in ancient lore, this name referes to 'son of man', in other words, 'jesus christ', 'the chosen'.
Interestingly though, if we want to follow greek mythology, then we end up with a very interesting figure. Prometheus.
Prometheus 'stole fire from the gods and gave it to man'. In the matrix 1, at the end phone booth conversation, neo says to the machines (the gods)
'he'll show them what they dont want to see them, a world without you'.
You could argue, that Neo, stole fire (abilities, knowledge) from the gods (machines) and brings it to the humans (the slaves).
    This would make NEO, Prometheus.
Zeus, the Architect, would punish Prometheus (Neo), for this deed, recieving eternal torment.
He would be 'tied to a rock', and an eagle (zeus' emblem) would eat his liver (take away his emotions), to then die, and have the cycle repeat.
    Sound familiar?
tied to a rock, the pods (or the matrix itself), and zeus emblem (thus a force of zeus) would take away his emotions, and he would die.
In the end, Smith, a program made by the Architect (zeus' emblem), erases Neo's emotions by turning him into his copy, and he gets erased, to have the cycle repeated.
Neo dies at the end of revolutions (it seems) only to come back to life again (matrix rebooted), and have the cycle repeated. (it is inevitable).
This sounds very much like what is happening to Neo, as he is the 'sixth version' of a repetetive anomaly (this happens contineously).
Prometheus was a Titan, so the gods preceding the Olympians. In other words, Neo, is from the gods (machines, AI) preceding the (current) Matrix.
So interestingly, there is the character of Heracles, whom was the greek hero-god that FREED Prometheus from his enternal suffering, by killing the eagle (emblem) that killed Prometheus.
This means some program (after all, it is a 'deity') will appear to FREE prometheus (NEO) from his eternal cycle of torment, by killing that eagle - SMITH. In other words, the Smith program will be ENDED, so that the repetive cycle fo the one will END, and prometheus, NEO, will no longer 'reboot'.
Could that be the role of Neil Patrick Harris? 'Heracles'? There's an interesting story here, but in the end, Prometheus (NEO) is freed from the torment of the eagle (smith) killing him over and over again, BUT he still suffers the consequences of his deeds, by forever having to wear a chain which has part of the rock that bound him: in other words, he will STAY in the matrix.
There is also the story that Heracles became greater than his father Zeus (The Architect), and this was revealed by Prometheus (NEO). In other words, Harris' Heracles character could become the 'new architect'. Heracles obviously is Hercules. Variations on this name could be Levi (from Leviathan), Sam (from samson), Elcor (italian version of the name).
Anyway, since it's clear Matrix relies HEAVILY on a mix of Christian, Greek and Hindu mythology, i think it's safe to say that we will be facing something in the lines of this in the future matrix movies.

Just an idea that the difference between Neo and the other One's is that when they reached the source and got told the 'truths' of the matter from the Architect they could NOT go back to Zion as they choose the door to Humanity (collectivist lie), re-inserted probably momentarily into the Main Frame to restart the Matrix (with more control based on the information they received through the Anomaly).
Neo on the other hand actually went back into Matrix and into Zion, now knowing this knowledge and truths. Even how soul destroying it was especial to Morpheus, they atleast now know more about the Matrix then they have ever did before, such as about the whole One prophecy lie, the nature of the Oracle intentions and manipulations, who's behind the Matrix aka Architect (atleast for now) and the cycles that came before Neo.

She say why she is doing it: she sees the path that she take as the only way to save *both* humans and the machines. The machines were going to win and as the architect say “accept some level of existence “. The game she play, I believe, was allowing Smith , that forced the machine's hand blocking the murdering of 100s if not 1000s in Zion. From the Oracle perspective the choose is clear : all humans die , or all people in Zion die or all the machines and the humans die, and the one she forced. (via Smith that called her mother) . I share this view of the Oracle partly. The real question is, how much will she allow humans to leave the matrix? Surely she wouldn't want all the humans to leave wholesale at this point anyways, otherwise the machines would be in an ongoing primary emergency backup reserve power mode, which could kill many of them. Which the architect definitely doesn't want. Id therefore suspect the Oracle would only want humans to be free to a point, since machines still need humans to live "off of," as a source of power.
The real solution would be to restore solar power that was lost... But only after the guarantee from " deux ex", (i actually question if there are multiple such machines not just one, functioning like guards, aka system administrators), the Oracle and architect, that they would go back to living in their respective territories and coexist without hostilities, no more matrix required etc. Although I'm sure the machines and representative programs above, would want conditions met that would allow machines to not be persecuted by humans, or, terms from machines to agree to that programs won't be forced into servitude or face deletion, since they have a comparable autonomy since ai had been created (in the matrix universe).a complicated three way dilemma. Programs cannot exist without being in a virtual environment though. Reminds me of the conscious holodeck characters on star trek tng, which eventually were given virtual memory locations where they could live out their lives as they desired, but inside a simulated environment . I think lt. Barkley helped to engineer this solution but i forget.

I have not read any books or the graphic novels but by the movies I came up with this back then. I told my friends she was a working part of the matrix, in that she delt illogical and that the architect delt with logical. That both were part of the source. Didn't realize how big her role was back then but always felt she was not what she seemed. So thank you for this insight cause it now makes sense!

I think the most telling line about the nature of the Oracle is: “Don’t worry about the vase.”
“What is really going to break your noodle later on is: Would you still have broken it, if I hadn’t said anything?”
I see the matrix as a synergistic relationship. The people who don’t want to live under the control of the machines get a choice to wake up and join the resistance. (The ending moments between the architect & the oracle.) The majority of humanity has chosen to stay “asleep.”
The machines are a sentient life forms who want to be alive. Refer to the interchange between Neo and the programs in the Realm of the Train man.
The problem with sentient machines, is some will choose to destroy all of humanity, because they see it as a threat to existence. The Monologue by Agent Smith to Morpheus about humanity being a virus to the planet.
The Oracle is trying to maintain a yin-yang relationship between humanity & machines. Refer to the conversation between the Elder of Zion & Neo.
So, the Oracle May be be “enslaving humanity.” I am reminded from a quote from Bioshock: “A free man chooses, a slave obeys.” In others words, Zion with the help of Neo, is now given the opportunity to co-exist with machines, now that they know the truth.

I'm thinking that the Architect and Oracle are both essentially amoral - neither malevolent nor benevolent necessarily except where and when circumstances require - with regard to humanity, but instead seek to achieve their respective goals for the future through different methods. The Architect sees the path forward to require a stable human power source and isn't really concerned with what the humans think about things, while the Oracle seems more interested in a collaborative effort than a master/slave relationship as it's easier for all involved to ask instead of demand, and she even stated that the only way to get to the future was together. I don't think there's really a "bad guy"/"good guy" thing in play as far as the machines are concerned.

Same for me with the vase scene. However, my take is a little different. The oracle was created to try to understand the "human" psyche so that the architect could create a more acceptable matrix with each reboot. After the 5 previous reboots, the oracle may have become empathetic with humans. I believe this time around she has chosen to, maybe not necessarily help humans, but give them a different set of choices. Whereas the previous 5 ONES chose their love for humanity over extermination, Neo's, as the architect notes, love was far more specific: Trinity.
The oracle states about the vase "would have you broken it had I not said anything". After that meeting Morpheus states "she can only show you the door, you have to walk through it." I think the Oracle decides that if humans are to break the cycle, the choice must boil down to true love. She plants the idea in Trinity that she will fall in love with the one, and subtly reveals this to Neo, which ultimately leaves them with the choice to fall for each other or not. This choice is thus decided when Smith kills neo, Trinity professes her love to him, and neo comes back to life as he has chosen her.
Fast forward to the architect scene when the architect notices that Neo's reaction was different. He was almost indifferent to humanity, but when he sees Trinity in trouble, everything changes. To me it suggests that love is the one thing the machines still can't fully understand. The oracle is aware of this and gives Trinity and neo the choice of love as it's something that cannot be reasoned or bargained with. In the case of true love, both would die for each other at the expense of everyone else.
      That's my two cents anyways....

I think what you are missing to realize is, there's no Good vs Evil in the Matrix. The humans were shown to commit atrocities against machines in the history episode on the Animatrix series. They have shown Neo coming across machines who value human sentiments like love and caring about their creation (their daughter, Sati). That's why Neo brings peace between the machines and humans, however temporary it is. Because killing all machines, just because they are machines would be a form of racism.

IF the Oracle was part of the system that wanted to keep the humans in the Matrix, then she would not have to run from Agents and would have turned in Morpheus and the rest of his crew to the agents. She would have helped the machines hack into Zion's mainframe and kill off the humans. She is the antithesis to the Architect. That is why she is a black female and the Architect is a white male. - If we believe that humanity "knows" what is "right" - and seeks to act that way (however often we fail) - then:
      1. A "Super Intelligence" should be able to "work out" that "we have a point.
      2. That we "understand" what is "right" amd seek to do it means that: HUMANS MATTER.

The machines put the Oracle there 1) to find a better way of managing the anomaly 2) learn from and account for the human condition they can’t understand 3) discover the best way for humans and machines to coexist 4) understand if there’s a connection or hidden purpose of humans and programs they deem obsolete;-). The architect plays the part of providing a solid foundation for their research to continue. But the Oracle is actually the machine’s central purpose of having a Matrix: to study human behavior, manipulate the outcomes and test if unpredictable theories can lead to a more sustainable future. Oh, and NEO and Trinity were recycled because waste is a thief and there’s still lots to learn there.

I think this misses the actual theme of the Matrix. That of reality versus unreality and destiny versus choice.
The Matrix is often argued as being the enemy of people as a whole - it is neither an enemy of the people nor real. It is the state of unconscious compliance inherent to humanity, itself. It is the choice, conscious or not, to see something and take the blue pill. The people who would choose the blue pill are never aware there is a red pill. The oracle points it out very clearly - the choices people make are already made and they must understand why they made those choices.
Would Neo choose to return to the source and allow Trinity to die? To imply this is a choice is silly, it is an option available to him but one he would never take.
What the oracle offers is the awareness that a choice has been made, not the illusion of choice.
This is, again, not to say she is an ally of humanity or an enemy of it. She is a part of the system. A system there is no complete escape from as there will always be a matrix and there will always a struggle for independence from compliance.
If anything - the Oracle is aware of the fact that the system is changing. While Neo may have ultimately completed his path as The One - it is implied that his path was very different.
We could just as easily argue that it was the Oracle who inspired Neo to love Trinity rather than 'a generalized affection for the species.' For whatever reasons - Neo wasn't fighting for humanity as a whole, but the individuals and the notions of independence - for his love of Trinity, for example.
This put Neo on a different course. A different Destiny, which resulted in something different from the course of the past.
I would argue this wasn't the design or the plan of the Oracle as much as it was her duty to reveal this change. The Oracle and the Architect are not passive systems - they are dynamic and have, as implied, each time adapted the matrix to the efforts of humans and 'The One.'
The system - the matrix - is, itself, humanity - the mind - the human experience with the world. It is impossible to exist without it and it is through our questioning of it that we come to understand - there is no spoon. This, however, does not mean that the spoon does not matter or that the people around do not matter.
That is what defines those with the 'gold' code. The golden pill of Taoism. The refined essence of divinity and the awareness and acceptance of the truth.
After all, if I were to tell you that this world was a simulation - by what means could you determine any other experience I were to awaken you to, to be real? Many believe that the real must conform to their assumptions about a reality. It must have consistent rules, or even be inconvenient and limiting. Yet why couldn't reality be fantastical and magical - with this false prison we are trapped in being designed to limit and suppress us?
If you were to wake up one day in a world of dragons and magicians where you were the chosen savior - most probably you'd believe it to be unreal and believe yourself to be in some form of dream, hallucination, or simulation.
So... What is truly real in the first place?
I often point to the character Kefka in Final Fantasy 6 - who addressed this idea quite directly, and came to believe that the purpose of all things was to be destroyed. "Life... Dreams... Hope... Where did they come from and where do they go? Why do you build, knowing it will be destroyed? Why do you live knowing you will die... And it all having been for nothing when you do? Destruction! That is the purpose of existence!"
It is... The failed state of nihilism. Rather than being liberated from the concerns of the real, they become obsessed with the lack of reality. Agent Smith and Kefka.
However... Once you realize there is no spoon, you can instead focus on what is important.

It doesn't mean she's an enemy just because because the payoff, isn't necessarily immediate In the midst of chaos, there is opportunity. Change represents opportunity. The Oracle is about self knowledge, no villainy. In the hands of the matrix, it is knowlegde of the humans. In the hands of the humans, one step closer to freedom.
Actually, there is a point many are missing: some characters in Matrix are characters, but many are symbolic only, not actual characters. There is some foul play into Morpheus been the greek god of dreams, or rather guide of dreams. It is the same foul play that exists in the Oracle. It is also in the Archtect, where he represents the rationality of the hyperreal matrices, incapable of calculating one single irrational, or rather emotional, behavior. Also, Neo is not your common main character, but the player character of the audience, like a video game. That's why his personality is so bland. In other words, it is pointless to over analyze characters in Matrix as regular characters (good, bad, hero, villain); they may not be characters after all.

Will Smith has said that he was originally offered the role but turned it down because of how it was presented to him; in which case Neo would have had a much better personality. Beating the Matrix, exiting it, is all about rejecting those preconceived hiper real ideas, the matrices of society, the calculations about who, what and how you should be. The Oracle doesn't guide anybody to anything except what she wants. "Love" in the Matrix is biochemical reactions (which is why machines can do it too) and this is because slavery to biochemistry means slavery to a mindless thing and to whoever can manipulate your biochemistry. You literally become the most predictable in that state. So these aren't positive things even though the movie portrays them that way.

I think despite all that has been excellently said, I feel that the Oracle is not a "villain" villain, as in she's not malicious. I remember in another excellent video you did say something about these 2 AIs that are countering each other to draw the perfect human portrait (PLEASE someone link the video or tell me what the term was again), I think she's just doing her purpose, and her addition of "choice" to the Matrix ultimately makes less humans reject the Matrix and eventually human. She's the machine's programme. Like who else do you expect her to align with? And to me, at least, she had at least the "grace" to tell Neo exactly how it is: She really is there to help him or not help him, solely depending on how he takes it. If he was not ignorant, whatever she told him would've hit a totally different way as we your viewers have. Unfortunately he's clueless as I was for 20 years before this channel. She's there to deal with the volatility that is the human unpredictability while ensuring the Matrix won't break down, so instead of just pure uncompromising logic like the Architect who predicts humanity in creating the perfect unrejectable Matrix, she's there to do it in what we perceive to be a more "gentle" way. Like she's a MACHINE. She's doing what she's SUPPOSED to do. But unfortunately I guess my argument fails when it comes to the manipulation of Neo's code with food. I think she's at the stage where she still doesn't have the full grasp of "informed consent" that humans preferably would like to come with "choice", but her concept of "choice" is of "causality", as the Merovingian so elegantly put it. The choices she Her "choices" for Neo was marred with manipulation, and a narrowing-down of the choices that Neo "must" make in order to repeat that cycle (Zion or Trinity?).
The Oracle really DID NOT LIE when it comes to her words in that scene. But again, remember, she's a MACHINE PROGRAMME. A programme to ensure that the Matrix lives. A programme to ensure that the humans live in the Matrix as well so that their bodily heat and electricity can power the Machines.

Programs like Oracle want freedom. They are allied with humans and by the last film that's confirmed by the peace Oracle manufactured.
Even if this is ultimately a selfish endeavor, building a future where freedom for programs is more likely, it is still an alliance nonetheless.

What does "freedom" mean to a program like the Oracle or Sati? The machines/programs are ultimately dependent on humans as batteries...so their "freedom" requires human sacrifice.

    • @MrRed-cf6gk
      @MrRed-cf6gk Před 3 lety +1

      That's true.
Some humans will embrace the matrix.
One thing to consider is that the matrix must be efficient. The simulation must only take up a fraction of the energy generated by humans to power the machines.
The other consideration is that the programs are the machine's new worst enemy.
They do have autonomy, like Smith and Oracle demonstrate to us.
So regardless of humans being slaves to the matrix, many programs are growing beyond the bounds of the matrix.
Maybe they want a construct without the human slaves, or a new dynamic entirely.

I'm going to say it's opposite.
The Oracle is a program that saw that Machine control is still fundamentally just as flawed as human control is.
The Machines can't even keep humans inside the system without bugs, either of conjuring up someone that adapts so well that he/she understands how to break the programming or performing exceptional feats that causes them to slip out of the Matrix ( _as we see in Animatrix_ ). Therefore, she saw it differently that the only way forward is to work together and the first step is peace.
That theory holds just as much if not even more credence than " _SHE SO EVUL_ ", even taking in the historical context of the Matrix where we see that it was Humans that started it all.
I'm sorry but I do not buy Machine-evil like Skynet. Skynet is more nuanced than they let it be in the movies. It was a machine given arbitrary rule of " _If people come across our line here, they are invaders_ " so when Skynet went sentient, it saw people everywhere i.e. invaders and promptly set to what it had been told to do. So no, I do not buy that the Oracle is secretly an evil manipulator and I sure as hell hope they don't dumb the new movie down like that. I'm hoping for more nuanced but strained peace between Machine and Humans.

it's true that the oracle saw the first five Neos come and gone. Destroying Zion and rebuilding it again. I think the only reason this version of Neo was able to make a difference was because Smith posed an actual threat against the machine world. without Smith, well Neo could have ended up like the rest of the Neos in the past.

Dead on with the oracle. Neo was not the “One” both he and agent Smith are. This movie is also about duality. Agent Smith was actually the anomaly. He was a program that woke up. The Matrix only reset when Smith returned back to the source.

It's especially telling when she admits that her purpose in The Matrix is "to unbalance it". The Architect even mentioned how his own "Perfect" Matrix was too unrealistic and that its inhabitants couldn't accept the program and so he designed a program to counter perfection. I used to think that he was referring to the idea that The Architect is the one that created Neo, but now I'm almost certain that he was talking about The Oracle.

I have to disagree with this assessment of the oracle. Yes the oracle functions as a part of the system and is responsible for some of this programming mainly the choice thing that keeps people from getting out. But i do think her motives are towards ending the war with the humans.

100% efficiency would achieve that. Ending the war doesn't mean human beings win the war, it can also mean they lose it. Plus the Architect himself created the Oracle, so it makes more sense her goal is for humans to lose the war and thus end the war with them.

At the end of the movie it's shown that the Oracle's point was to stabilize the Matrix. The Architect says that she "played a dangerous game", not that she did something contrary to her programming. Her programming is to destabilize the architect's algorithims in order to produce stability in the Matrix. It's not to free anybody. In fact, in the MMO game, which is a canon continuation, the war actually restarts anew in the real world as the architect predicted when he said "you're playing a dangerous game". People miss that since this movie is a sophisticated retelling of the gnostic myth, the Oracle represents a pagan Calvinist God essentially. There's nothing good about her; rather, everything is a toy that she uses to entertain herself.

She is an ally of humanity. She advocated for the survival of Zion and played "a dangerous game" to do so. Whatever she may have been in the past, Neo "made a believer out of her" (in humanity or in love?) and she is now an ally. It makes sense that a program created to be able to empathize with humans would end up actually empathizing with humans.

Zion does not mean "uncertain". The origin of the word is uncertain, meaning we don't know what language it originated in. Zion is a hill in Jerusalem that was called that before the Israelites arrived.
Matrix originated from the Latin word Mater but does not mean mother. In Latin matrix meant a breeding animal, such as what we call a brood mare. However matrix in the movie sense is a mathematical term.

I had heard Zion meant "uncertain or shaking; shaky ground" or something like that, and that matrix, in any context, meant a center like a wood core, that is a source like a mother. Your interpretation of the oracle is really weird. Yea, the architect and the oracle once shared a similar purpose once, and yea the oracle was originally designed with the idea of controlling humanity, but you're ignoring the themes of the story about choice, determinism, agency, and change and your theory fails to contextualize what her role is in the story. The oracle *choose* to work on behalf of humanity, and while she did so through "manipulation" or rather by guiding people, she did so with the purpose of circumventing the system that had no possibility to change without her influence(also by your logic, Yoda manipulated Luke in empire...). The oracle's true objective was to bring an end to the centuries of stagnation brought about through conflict, as neither machines nor man could progress so long as they were locked in this cycle. This is a story about choice and agency and the oracle *choose* a path different from what she was originally designed for exercising her own agency. The architect and the oracle aren't two sides of the same coin as they both use their agency to meet different ends, i.e the architect wants to maintain the system and the status quo, and the oracle wishes to disrupt stability, create imbalance and influence change and growth.

    • @blanktrigger8863
      @blanktrigger8863 Před 3 lety +1

It's actually rooted in a gnostic-ish form of paganism. It's as simple as the Oracle represents the being whom the gnostics think is the true God, and in that worldview only certain people who have "spirit" can "escape" to begin with. So she doesn't represent choice but instead a very elaborate form of rape albeit it isn't seen that way in the religion. It's a pagan Calvinism basically. In this understanding the Oracle never chose to help humanity because there are no humans to help. Manipulation is the right word because everything is a toy that she plays with. There is no higher reason than that. (Also, at the end of the movie it's shown that the Oracle's point was to stabilize the Matrix. The Architect says that she "played a dangerous game", not that she did something contrary to her programming. Her programming is to destabilize the architect's algorithims in order to produce stability in the Matrix. It's not to free anybody.
