I'm glad you've mentioned the 'inspiration' thing about Tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow. I'm honestly shocked more people don't talk about this.
I’m curious what other story is it plagiarizing?
@@SlowBurnReader The game that's mentioned in the book exists, or a very similar one. And the author, or publisher, or whoever commented on that, said that basically it was inspired, but it's a different medium so.. 🙄
@@SlowBurnReaderit's a board game called "Train" by Brenda Romero. If you have read Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow and google Train, you'll see that it was very obviously taken from Romero's game. The interesting thing is that Zevin, in her acknowledgements section does explicitly reference other work that inspired the book but did NOT reference Train, despite using the entire concept of it.
I always donate my arc copies to little free libraries
Mine too!
I’ve found a couple at the ones near me and it always felt super special 😊😊
You're explanation of your eye phobia reminded me so much of that episode of friends where they all have to tackle Rachel to get her eye drops in her eyes because she has a phobia of things touching her eyes. Also, that plant growing in and out of people story sounds like majorly disturbing...and now I think I'm taking that series off of my TBR list, lol!
Plants growing out of people hmm sounds like annihilation 🙋♀️
Also The Tainted Cup, What Moves the Dead, and Last of Us (video game/TV show),
Phobias are funny things. I finished a book yesterday that I loved but there was a scene where the woman reaches into a box of raisins, eats them, finds them to be crunchy, looks in the box to find a whole colony of insects, and then proceeds to put the box back on her kitchen shelf. Not the trash. She did dissuade her hungry kid from eating it, but she kept it around. It creeped me out so much. I do not want to eat insects.
Omg thank you for the heads up about the plant thing in the Jasmine Throne series. I have book 1 on my shelf (thrifted), but I might pass now cause that gives me the heebie-jeebies too
Hi Elliot ! Thanks for the great un-recs 😂 I also think I’ll Unhaul FW because book one was really fun but I’m not into a long-ish mid series.
Also I love your silver hairs, didn’t notice them until them and it suits you so well ❤
I have a phobia of beef/burgers with any sign of pink, after reading a Robin Cook novel. Nope! I now prefer my red meat charred by dragon fire 🔥 well done
I just finished starling house, I struggled with it at the beginning but it got better as it went on
Holes...me too. Gives me shivers makes me gag. Ha.
I’m a game designer and I noticed while reading Tomorrow x3 that Sadie’s game and overall story was very very similar to Brenda Romero’s work. I remember reading about Solution in the book and being like “oh wait this is like Train” I loved the book but I definitely agree it goes too far down the plagiarism hole and I’ve stopped promoting it since.
I always donate my books to libraries and schools and love doing it 📖💛🩷🩷📖🩵📖🌺🌺🌞🌞📚📚🌷🌻💙📙🩵📖💛🩷🩷🩵💛🌺📚📚✨✨🌸🦋💕💕🦋🫶🏻📚🌷💙🧡🩵📖💛🩷🌺📚📚📚🌺💛📚📚❤️🌷🌻💙📙🪻🌺🩷💛📖🩵🩵🌞🪻🌞🌞🌞🌞🩵🪻🪻📖📖🩷
Best wishes with what you are reading. I hope they bring you joy.
I know parasitic fungi are a real thing. ***shiver*** creeps me out too.
Cordyceps. Some use it as a herbal medicine, but I've played the Last of Us so I'm never eating Cordyceps lmao 🤣
Hello to my fellow musician! I absolutely love this setup.
both fourth wing and iron flame in Poland have sprayed edges iron flame has an original desing but thats just the normal one not a special edytion
In Germany as well!
I would love that James Islington series but it will probably sell out before I get my chance. Just went to Pango but wasn't there.
Great Unhaul!
I know this is totally off-topic but have you finished Sunbringer yet? I read it faster than I've read any anticipated release lately and since you are the reason I read Godkiller originally I guess I'm just anticipating what your reaction to it is.
I would love that Licanious series. Can you shout out when you put it up on Pango?
The way you reacted to 'The Unmaking of June Farrow' is exactly how I felt when I was done reading the book. Months later, I still can't put my finger on what it is that doesn't work for me. Nor why I'm not liking it. I just feel uncomfortable for some reason.
Also, for 'The Hurricane Wars', I'm currently reading it-still haven't passed the first fifty pages. In the back of my mind, I am low-key concerned about how fan fiction-y it might feel.
But so far, the pacing isn't bothering me, nor the "lore". Although, I have been thinking about how much lore there will be, and because I'm not that familiar with Filipino mythology/religion, how much stopping and researching that might mean for me because I'm that kinda nerd, and myths are one of my favorite things-obviously, since I love fantasy. 😆
Plants growing out of people? I now want to read that series 😅
Sorry - can’t remember if you’ve read The Tainted Cup yet. But if not - there are plants growing out of people. Just letting you know.
Oh no, I've really loved this book, but that's correct, I can imagine it can disturb Elliot
The Tainted Cup was totally what I thought she was talking about with the plant thing before she showed the actual book! Yeahhhh that one has it pretty graphically.
@@starrybrow yeah, it totally could have been about The Tainted Cup.
The holes phobia, I have it, it's called trypophobia. Grosses me tf out man 😅
Same!!! 😖😫😩
This isn't book related but I have to say I really like your hair and glasses. Very witch of the woods vibes and it looks good.
Omg I want that Shadow of the Gods! Have you listed it?😮😮😮
What a pity that Pego is not international, I would have liked the Licanius series😥
4:16 for like 2.3 seconds I was convinced you were gonna say Hell's Paradise (manga)
Luna! 💞🐕💞
I’m kind of surprised Elliot did okay with Tress of the Emerald Sea. It also has the plants growing out of people thing.
Edit to add: I had almost the exact same experience buying fourth wing. I saw it a day or two after it came out, thought “ooo shiny, pretty cover and unique sprayed edges” and was blown away by how crazy it’s gotten. I have a friend who recently mentioned how they want their own private library and so far they have 80 books. So I’m considering snooping to find out what edition of FW she owns (she’s a big kindle/Ereader person so it may be only digital) and then maybe donating mine to her library since she is nuts about the series. ❤
I have a phobia of corduroy and velvet.... I literally sweat and hyperventilate whenever I see someone touching or wearing it.. textures are a big thing for me. It's weird
I did finish The Hurricane Wars and wish I'd DNF'd, honestly. It did not get better for me.
❤📚📚❤️
Ah, phobias. Mine is any sort of human morphing into anything and... teeth... *shudders*
And I had no idea about Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow. I'll admit I wasn't a fan of the book myself but now I'm even less impressed by it.
Send me some too.
It's not the same medium, so that don't have to give credit?
There have been so many lawsuits just from people who think movies took uncredited inspiration from their book or short story that the people claiming that have apparently missed.
You should look into the saint martins press boycott
I have a question for anyone: is there an issue with “book of the month” versions of books? I’m not at all familiar with them so I’m clueless 😂
Not familiar with what people say about them, but I can say that I've noticed that their BOTM logo is ugly and jarring (subjective ofc) on both the cover and the spine.
They both have the "why did you put a sticker on this" effect to me, even tho they aren't stickers.
Not an issue with the books per se, just that since they’re so popular, a lot of smaller used book stores will only take so many copies. I’ve sold to both bigger chains and small ones and they all have different rules for what they will buy back and what they won’t. I’ve had ones that would t take any hardbacks at all (shop was tiny so space was an issue and the shopkeeper said people just don’t really buy, they want paperback.)
All I can say is 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢and I can’t get pango 😢😢😢😢😢
Same. It doesn't ship to Canada and getting any special edition is so expensive
By the way how much does Pango charge you to sell a book?
I am sorry you didn’t like Fourth wing series 🪻🌸❤️❤️📚📚🌺🦋🌻💛🌻💕💕🧡🌷🌼📙📙🌞💙🌺🌺🌸🪻🩵🩵🩵🪻📚❤️🌸🌺💕💕💙💙💕🫶🏻🌼🌼🌼📙📙✨✨🥰📙🧡🌺🌻🪻🪻🪻🌸❤️📚🌺🌺🌻🌻❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
You’re going to want to avoid The Tainted Cup based on your plant phobia!
Actually thought it's what she's referring.
@@myribstellmesheslying I thought so too!
Hurricane wars was such a meh book. I didn't enjoy it either.
Fiction draws heavy inspiration from real life. Novels and games aren’t expected to have a works cited page, they’re not scientific papers that are explicitly built on the bones of others’ work. It’s a bit much to expect an author to give credit to a game she’s heard of, but hasn’t seen or played. There are also a lot of games that play with with idea of complicity or what happens when you realize the game you thought you were playing is not the game you actually were playing (Undertale anyone?)
While I've certainly had my chuckles at all the eyebrow raising and Sentences. Punctuated. In. This. Manner, I've gotta say that I don't understand the hate toward Fourth Wing.
We align on 99% of our tastes, but I've thoroughly enjoyed the series so far (thought it only got stronger with Iron Flame), but you definitely have to be ok with having the romance plot line. It's nothing groundbreaking, but I had a great time with it overall.
(It is of course totally ok that ppl don't like it! Just not getting the hate, unless it's coming from ppl who can't stand the romantasy element)
Love your content and your recs have steered me toward some of my all time fave books. ❤
OK. I was only aware of Gabrielle Zevin's political inclinations. But plagiarism and refusal to credit her inspiration is another reason. Deleting the ebook I own now. Thank you for letting us know.
