  • If you joined us for last summer's book study, then you're in for a treat because I had the opportunity to interview Peter Liljedahl, author of Building Thinking Classrooms. We had a fantastic discussion about overcoming the roadblocks that keep us stuck when creating a thinking classroom, as well as why we should shift the lens through which we read and implement the book. He also shared some new insights he's had since releasing the book and seeing it implemented in thousands of classrooms.

    I will say that I used digital randomizers with fidelity. The key is to have it posted prior to students entering and when they enter at different times, you avoid those micro bullying moments because of the stagger.

    You're so cool! This is the very first video of yours I've watched. But I think I'm similar to you in ways... like loving math, being a "recovering perfectionist" as I say, and liking the phrase "people do the best that they can with the skills they have at the time." This was super helpful as I'm considering implementing thinking classrooms since my co-worker does it and it seems awesome. But I have no training in it yet at all, other than watching your video. :)

    If this has been around for so long and it’s so effective, why do students know less than ever? Student-driven learning is effective for only a small percentage of students, and it puts all the burden of teaching on them rather than the teacher. His methods are well-intentioned, but mostly ineffective. Yes, I read his book.

      well, as long as you believe in "it does not work" you will find ways to make it NOT work. Not sure if you really read the book. Are you working as a teacher? I haven't read the book yet but I have watched two videos and a podcast and I already understood it is not about completely self-teaching, it is about reduced but still supportive teaching. Inducing THINKING. And of course this will be at different levels for different students.

      @@sv-xi6oq maybe my thought-capability is too limited. No Idea what you want to say with "Refer to my first sentence" If you would like me to understand what you mean you will have to use more words than just "Refer to my first sentence" Right now I am thinking about you: stupid "NO"-sayer that likes to rant without meaning. But maybe I judge wrong about you. If you want to repair your reputation you will have to elaborate quite decent but still in easy to understand words.
