I took Piano Keyboard in high school (It was a horrible class, the teacher didn't teach, and half the keyboards didn't work at all, surprised anyone learned anything) anyways there was this one boy in the class that had a keyboard at home. He worked on this song and memorized the first minute of it. His class keyboard was one of the rare ones that actually worked and he'd turn it up enough that it could be heard by the rest of the class. He started and EVERYONE paused in their work to listen to him. He played that first minute of the song like it was it's own song and it was like a heart wrenching lullaby. That little fragment of this song was honestly the most beautiful thing I've ever heard played on piano (even though his skill was probably FAR below yours and others).
At a couple points, THIS almost sounded like that. Thank you for bringing back that memory. 8)

My big sister used to play this when I was a little kid. She'd practice it so often that I really got sick if it. But now 50 years later, I remember her playing and she really was quite good. Hearing the same song over and over was so annoying at the time. I should not have been mad at her for perfecting her playing. I was most likely jealous because I could not play due to coordination problems of my left hand.
Fast forward to my 61st birthday. A wonderful friend I had met at chemo the day before my husband died in Hospice over 5 years ago, wanted to do something nice for my birthday. I asked Nancy to play me a song on her keyboard for me. She practiced a lot, but then her health took a run for the worst. She was put in Hospice nearly 4 years after we met. She had Kidney Disease and refused to have Dialysis. She never got to play the song for me.
Instead, I brought it up on my phone while she was on her deathbed. Her daughter needed a break. So I sat with her playing hymns and Beethoven. I think she had chosen Für Elise, because my name is Elisabeth. After awhile, I asked God to not let her linger anymore. She wanted to join her husband that had been gone for 4.5 years. I asked for a quick demise.
Our dinner was over about 40 minutes later. I went back to check on her and she was gone. Whether she would have died anyway without my plea, is anyone's guess. I read her eulogy at her memorial service too. So this song is very special for those two reasons.

anything good will be torture if you hear it 20,000 times. I would throw up if I ate the best tasting cake every single day. It's not jealousy of your big sister. Fur Elise can be used to torture prisoners in solitary confinement if played on loop. Why don't you only keep 1 of your favourite song on your iPod and play it on loop? See how long it takes before you turn into a mental patient. Fur Elise is honestly a cliche at this point. And my English professor hated cliches in essays. I think it also applies to music. Music should have variety.

@@shishir.sachar4648 Georgii Cherkin's ORCHESTRA version is yes, majestic and epic. I actually heard that before this one and I was totally impressed. But for piano SOLO performance, I'd choose this one from Marnie Laird and that of Lang Lang's over Georgii's piano solo performance of Fur Elise. I won't compare this one by Marnie (piano only) to the orchestral arrangement by Cherkin though. ORCHESTRA ≠ piano solo.

I wanted to play the piano but no lessons possible as I was in a big family. My grandfather played and great grandmother even played for Queen Victoria. When I was eleven, my classmate taught me to play, by ear, in wet playtimes in a hall where we were allowed to use the piano, Fur Elise. I never forgot it! Thirty Years later, I bought a piano from a friend, learned to play, mostly without tuition and had a long period of recovery from major surgery to sit and play all day long. I learned to play this and other classical pieces, from the music, and it brought huge joy. Soon, I was unable to sit up at the piano (EDS), but you and your brother have given us both such amazing pleasure. My husband adores the cello, so you both really make our lives much more joyful. Well, I could never have reached Marnie's level, which is wonderful to enjoy, but it brings back all the great times in my childhood and brings smiles to our faces. We are now pretty elderly!

This is beautiful, it's a magical piece of art, it's romantic and yet so tragic at the same time. This is like that moment when you look at your lover's eyes and you get lost in the melody of her beautiful smile, she teases you and you get bewitched by her beauty. You want her but fail to make her your soulmate, it's a tragical romance. Will your love be ever remembered by those after you die? Probably Beethoven also had a tragical love life.

Yes, she is very delicate, she just flows and her renditions are perfect. And she plays all the classicals in the same manner
