    • @TuulaMaaria
      @TuulaMaaria  Před 3 lety

      If you use different weights it can be hard to get an even result. It's better to put two thinner yarns together.

    Thank you for this tutorial 😊❣️ Started crocheting table mats with this technique and using macrame yarn instead of T-shirt yarn. How would you finish the ends of the macrame yarn then 🙂?

    • @TuulaMaaria
      @TuulaMaaria  Před rokem +3

      Sorry for taking this long to answer - I do try to go over comments twice or at least once a week but don't always manage to! With macrame cord it is harder to get the ends nice because you can't taper it, threads would come out. One way would be to make a clean cut at the ends, use PVC glue to harden the end and then use a few stitches to sew the end.

    I just have 1 questions what thickness did you cut the t-shirt yarn?

    • @TuulaMaaria
      @TuulaMaaria  Před 2 lety +3

      The width I cut it depends on the thickness of the fabric a bit but normally 2-3 cm wide (around 1 inch). Have fun!

    Thank you very much for that video : about one thing i m really not sure. It's for when you turn the rug. Sometimes, you make one stitch more, sometimes you make two single crochets, sometimes not... is there a rull that i didn't get. It seems a bit random to me, maybe because i don't have the right way to look at the work. I feel that you have a instinct for it but there has to be a rull about turmimg so the work is always even...?

    • @TuulaMaaria
      @TuulaMaaria  Před 4 lety +1

      Yes, it is different every second time because the stitches in between the stitches of the previous row. So every second one has one close to the turn.

    Do you think a rug made this way would work with a 50 pound dog with claws? I’m trying to make an area rug that I can throw in the wash. Or would it be better to just crochet the t-shirt yarn itself if this gets heavy foot traffic?

    • @TuulaMaaria
      @TuulaMaaria  Před rokem +2

      You can do either. But if you use this method, it is important to use fairly wide t-shirt yarn and make sure that the other yarn is very durable.

    • @TuulaMaaria
      @TuulaMaaria  Před 6 lety

      Thank you! I wonder what causes the sides not being straight. One important thing is not to skip a stitch when you turn but have a smaller stitch at the start. At the moment don't have an idea for another rug. Have you seen the video for a round one using this same technique? czcams.com/video/ZLP2cLJyMts/video.html

      I'm so sorry I didn't answer! CZcams doesn't alert me for answers to answers, I only notice them when I scroll down to all. You have probably already made your decision. But I checked about that yarn. It is not very thick, less than half of what I was using in the example but it would work, just makes thinner rows.

    Love it!!! But how do I change the yarn colour in the middle of the project and how do I finish/end the project? Sorry for the stupid question but I'm new to crochet.

    • @TuulaMaaria
      @TuulaMaaria  Před 3 lety +2

      If you mean the crocheting yarn, you just leave the old one and start a different one in the next stitch, then weave the yarn ends in afterwards. If you meant the t-shirt yarn, you cut the ends tapered in and set them on top of each other and continue crocheting normally.
      At the end of the project just stop crocheting and finish the ends by passing them into the fabric you just made.
      Hope this helps, enjoy crocheting! It is always lovely to hear someone has started to crochet 😊
