I was sat in hmp Werrington house watching this on TV. If I had known then what I know now😂😂😂😂
The home office did indeed tried to drown out the speech by prisoners like Paul Taylor. Then the prisoners ripped a blackboard off a wall and used chalk on board instead to get their point across which worked. In 1994 the prisons introduced new wings and toilets within cells and tvs in cells enhanced etc more relaxed for prisoners. All thanks to the lads not just in Strangeways but alot followed allover the UK right upto 91. I recall Armley jail had a wing full of lads from Wymott jail near Preston due to riots.
As a kid of 7 it was one absolutely amazing day out I love it better then blackpool 😁
My husband was in this Riot the prisoners were treated inhumane

I was there for most of it. I was on the first attendance OIC of Broughtons first pump. The first and second days were manic but it got quieter by the day and night shifts were a blessing as OIC Control Unit as it was quieter there than doing the shift on station. All sorts of rumours were flying about that first day. The 12 'bodies' turned out to be prisoners who had been beaten up and we're unconscious or playing 'dead' after a beating. One prison officer died of a heart attack and the inmate that eventually died in hospital, I think it was him I saw, actually walked to an ambulance outside the main gate. It's a wonder there weren't more casualties that first day when the visitors were leaving and one guy and his wife with children, presumably an ex inmate, was walking under the shadow of the wall where slates were flying over only to refuse to come over to the safe(er) side shouting at me 'I'm the last person they would attack' to which I replied they can't even see you, you idiot. That mentality said it all to me....idiot macho man puts wife and children at risk to strut down the road. Quite honestly most of them seemed to me to be out there for fun. The sensible ones got out ASAP.

It put the prison system under the microscope.which needed to be done .programes on panorama. Show the tip a the ice berg .they revealed living conditions .stoppage a letters .brutality by screws .higene.
