Hey. If you’re getting burned out this content, don’t worry. We’re back to some different content next week.
Never. It’s fun
Enjoying this.
Not at all
Any minute now, a Rogers DynaSonic and a Slingerland Sound King are going to run in and clear EVERYONE out with a steel chair.
Great stuff...keep it coming
Sonor for me, but the Gretsch is a very close 2nd.
Agree! For me the difference was the Sonor's "ring" which I can always dampen.
@@mjm5081 exactly!!!
@@hogfanbk 😃 👍 👊
The Gretsch gets my vote but the PDP is real good!
Gretsch USA wins.
Overtones are well balanced in both tunings. Rimshots sound crystal clear.
1. Ludwig. 2 Gretsch 3. Sonor 4 PDP
Sonor for me, love that ring, which you can always tame back if you like. Gretsch close second.
Exactly! I'd rather have extra ring that I can dampen. The Sonor's got some serious "POP" too!!!
Gretsch 💯
Sonor
Ludwig
Pdp
The Sonor was ridiculously good. Loved the Acro too, but Sonor killed it.
I vote for the Sonor. It might be a little "much" for some situations, but that clear, crisp sound is just heaven.
Sonor was my favorite but the Gretsch was pretty close
That Sonor Kompressor is it. That tone is just magic at all tuning levels. Followed by Ludwig, Gretsch and then PDP.
I think the Sonor Kompressor was the most impressive. Tough choice between that one and the PDP. imo
Sonor
Gretsch
PDP
Ludwig.
Was really surprised at how little I liked the Ludwig. Thought it would be tops or close to it.
i thought the same thing until I got to the Head 2 Head portion. That's where I realized it had the best tone.
Gretsch Solid Steel
Gretsch! Love it!
Sonor Kompressor. I’m a fan. Especially with the higher tuning.
All of these snares were killer! But the Gretsch use has my vote
The Gretsch wins for me, but the Sonor is a damn close second. Considering you can find the Sonor for in the $200s on Reverb, that's a great value!
1. Sonor
2. Gretsch
3. Ludwig
4. PDP
Gotta go with the classic...that Acrolite sounds so pure with beautiful overtones in both high and low tunings. The acrolite's my vote!
As in my comment forthcoming, it’s got that perfect woody thwack and that dry metallic pang
SONOR with that SONOR kick drum !
Then Gretsch, Ludwig and Pdp
The Kompressor is so tight and Sonor lugs are really pretty! I’m a big fan definitely has my vote!!!
I’ve been a life-long Ludwig player and have owned countless Luddy snare but that Gretsch won me over!
Oh man. This is a tough one, as I like them all for different reasons. I’ll go with the Gretsch. I think it’s more musical, and consistent across different tunings and mic placement. But, really - no one could go wrong with any of these.
This was very close! I feel like the Ludwig wins for me because it had the most overtones of the bunch, and in my mind that means that it's the most versatile if you start adding gels or other things it's got the most range
That Sonor Kompressor!!!! Dayuuum!!!
They all sound awesome , I find myself liking the Ludwig sound the best 🥁
1. Ludwig!!!!!
2. Gretsch
3. Sonor
4. PDP
This is the closest race of the lot thus far. All of these snares are killer. The Ludwig is my favourite. But that Gretsch is a very close 2nd.
For sound and price, you cannot go wrong with Kompressor!
Sonors got it this week for me
My ranking:
1) PDP
2) Ludwig
3) Gretsch
4) Sonor
The Gretsch snare gets my vote, so musical 😍
Sonor takes the edge for me, but just slightly.
I feel like the last couple weeks were an easy call (especially last week), but these were all pretty close. I'd gladly take any of them!
Ludwig
Gretsch
PDP
Sonor
For me it would be 1. Gretsch 2. Sonor 3. Ludwig 4. PDP. I was intrigued with the idea of wooden hoops on the PDP but it just sounded too dead to me, while the Ludwig "rang" too much for my tastes. All of them are better than what I have right now though, so they're all music to my ears! Thanks for all the great work with these Drumbles and all your other reviews! Love 'em!
The PDP over all had a soulful mellow “pop”
Gretsch Solid Steel USA♥️
That Gretsch sounds incredible, and looks *fantastic!* It's the clear winner!
There is just something about the Sonor that makes it the best drum out of these 4 for me
This Acrolite would be my vote. I do buy an used SAKAE of Aluminum, and does have this warmed sound on the lower tuning. "Hey Oh!" Jim Duggan makes a sweet cameo!
The Gretsch solid steel is the clear winner this week.
Wow….they all sound great….but I’m gonna go with the Ludwig Acrolite !!
Even without Give-aways, can y'all keep doing these?
The Sonor Kompressor was my pick. Especially at higher tuning.
Very tough call this week...they all sound really good. The PDP Concept had such a nice mellow aluminum sound, but the Gretsch USA stole the show in the end.
After several listens and changing my mind a hundred times, I'm going to go with the Ludwig as the winner. It encompasses everything you need out of a snare, but mostly the resonance. It blends into the mix better, in my opinion. I'll go:
1.) Ludwig Acrolite. Just a classic, dependable sound;
2.) PDP. Very interesting snare. Great full-body tone and fast decay. It would be #1 but I could see myself hitting the rim all the time;
3.) Gretch. Tight, dry sound. Probably better for recording;
4.) Sonor (which is funny because it was initially my #1). It also cuts through the mix but it sounded more like a 14x5. A little thin.
Gretsch is the clear winner here!!! That Great Gretsch Sound!
Sonor Kompressor is what my ear is liking
NO WAY!!! I'm Enjoying this TOO MUCH!!!
Chris Zinn Sinking Spring, Pa.
The PDP has the best looks. The Sonor is the liveliest-sounding. The Gretsch seems to be the one that’s easiest to dial in for live and recording.
I vote for the Gretsch snare drum.
Another win for Ludwig! Just enough overtones to fill out the room, all of the others were on the drier side which is fine if that's what you're looking for.
They're very close to eachother, the PDP for example has a different Sounddesign with the Walnut Hoops, i don't think it's "fair" to compare these...but if i had to rank, i'd say:
1. Ludwig
2. Sonor
3. Gretsch
4. PDP
But could imagine to own all of them...and if had to buy two of those, i'd take the Ludwig abd the PDP, because of the class and the versatility. Thanks for making such fun videos!
Voting for the Gretsch USA steel. Another great group of snare drums
That Kompressor's got some serious "POP" and sustain(which I can always dampen if I want).
The Sonor it is!!!
1 Gretsch 2 Sonor 3 Ludwig. 4 PDP
Sonor, Gretsch, Ludwig, Pdp. The Gretsch sounded really nice, but I don’t think I would have guessed it was steel if I didn’t know what it was.
1. Gretsch
2. Sonor
3. Ludwig
4. PDP
5. Many Greetings from Germany
All wonderful drums but the Gretsch to me is the winner and I don't usually care for diecast hoops. You could get the Ludwig and the sonor for the same price as the Gretsch.. that's also a nice way of looking at it!!
The Gretch sounds fantastic and has a killer look
That Ludwig stands above the other three snares by far!
I gotta go with the Gretsch USA Solid Steel! I loved the fullness it has!
1. Ludwig
2.Sonor
3.Gretsch
4.Pdp
Love the snare videos. Keep them coming. Thanks
Sonor Kompressor!
Damn they all sounded really good. I'll pick the Sonor on this round.
Gretsch gets my vote. But oh man, that bass drum sound....just superb. Plenty of attack but you can still hear the drum breathing. Damn.
Amen.
All four of those drums are extremely useful sounding. They all would excel in most circumstances. I like the wildness of the Sonor Kompressor steel shell. I suspect others may seek to tame it with some manner of dampening, but I sure like it as is.
Gretsch, Ludwig, Sonor and finally the PDP. That Gretsch sounds great!!
Gretsch, Sonor, Ludwig, PDP
Sonor
Gretsch
Pdp
Ludwig
My vote is for the Sonor!
Gretsch, PDP, Ludwig, Sonor, beautiful drums, all of them.
Gretsch Solid Steel has my first vote. Followed by Sonor, Ludwig, and PDP in that order. Great work, guys!
Gotta go with the Gretsch. Well-rounded tones high and low and the rim shots slaaap!
Gretsch wins it for me!! Sonor close second and 1/3 of the price. Proves you don’t always need to spend to get a quality sound. Looking forward to next week’s video!!
1. Gretsch
2. Pdp
3. Sonor
4. Ludwig
Gretsch then Ludwig and then Sonor and PDP basically tied. Great drums, great series!
1. Gretsch
2. PDP
3. Sonor
4. Ludwig
Sonor, PDP,Gretsch,Ludwig
Man that Sonor just kills it!!!
I own the Gretsch solid steel and it’s an absolute unit. It’s got my vote
Totally shocked by how good that PDP sounded...just big and soft sounding...but the Gretsch is the winner this round...sounded great at both tunings....keep these coming!
1rts place: Gretsch!
2nd: Sonor,
3rd: PDP,
4th: Ludwig.
1. Gretsch
2. Sonor
3. Ludwig
4. PDP
Gretsch Solid Steel wins it for me.
Sounds fabulous.
Thanks again guys
All the best from a very wet Wales !
🥁👍🏼🥁
SONOR!! Just the best...
Sonor > PDP > Acrolite > Gretsch
I totally regret parting ways with the Ferro Magnese snare that came with my 80’s Performer Plus. Guess I’m biased!
Oh, and thanks for keeping everything consistent (kick, floor tom, mic placement/selection, etc.) throughout the series. You guys are awesome!
Id happy with any of those! Thanks guys!
Gretsch is just a pure sound and controlled steel!!!! Love it! 😊
Gretsch by a landslide!!!
That is a fantastic snare.
This is so difficult....my personal taste says the Gretch. The pdp was poppy but fell short on rimshots. Liked the sonor as well but alot more overtone. So...Gretch on thos particular brumble. Thanks for all the hard work guys. Bringing us terrific instruments.
The Gretsch for me. It controls the overtones the best, it has a nice snappy yet focused sound, and the snares resonate the best.
I have to go with the Ludwig Acrolite. I think it could fit any situation best and the overtone seems to be the most musical of this bunch.
Sonor Kompressor all the way!
That resonance, tone and sensibility are unrivalled.
I'd love to say the gretsch win this one, but it has to be the sonor. Such a good value for the money, damn 🔥
Sonor won!
1. PDP 2. Gretsch - again all very similar. Would love to see this done as a blind test next time. Or for the finals?
GRETCH USA SOLID STEEL WINS !!! i think second goes to Sonor very close!
Sonor
My ears like the Sonor.
Gretsch
PDP
Sonor
Ludwig
Gretsch , Ludwig, Sonor , PDP but they’re all close
They sound very much alike, decent sound in everyone. To me, none is better to another
SooooooNoooooR is my choice... But that's a tough one...
