This is amazing! I had no idea so many of you loved hair grease like me lol! Please be sure to SHARE this video! As always I appreciate you all and thank you for allowing me to serve you with my knowledge of cosmetic chemistry! ((sending you a virtual hug!!)) :-D
Would you ever make videos on the science of skincare? I’m trying to start making my own products but want to know what’s going on on a scientific level
you focused here on petrolatum, but what are your thoughts about lanolin and beeswax? i see it as the main ingredient in some diy grease/pomade recipes.
Curly Chemistry I saw that you recommend oils like coconut oil to penetrate into the hair first. I was just wondering what that looks like on a wash-day & going forward. Thanks in advance!!!
I haven’t been able to retain length in my nape since I was a kid. I kept trying to figure out why I had long hair as a child but can’t grow long hair now. It hit me, my mom used grease! I started using blue magic on my nape a month ago and the bald spots are filling in. I’m so mad I listened to the “natural community” and stopped using grease. Oils/butters don’t lock moisture into my high porosity hair at all. I’ve tried every natural/oil butter, LCO/LOC and 20 minutes later my hair is thirsty. Now I apply a leave in and some grease and my hair stays moist for a week. My hair also likes silicones and I use sulfates. I learned to stop listening to people and listen to my hair instead.
Hmmm interesting. I tried the LCO method on my high porosity hair, 24hrs later bone dry 😫. LOC method wirks better for me but lately that's been lasting only 3-4days when it use to be a week. I'm gonna try the LG method and see how that works
Girl, same thing with me, my mom warned me so many times that i was using products that dries my hair and i didnt listened hahah (mom always know the best) and these days i figure it out that my high porosity hair needs more than oils, butters, its crazy how my hair gets dry even with the LOC or LCO method, since i finished doing my hair is juicy but next day looks like i didnt put anything so i finally gave up all my products and im starting with old school products :)
I freaking hate creams on my high porsity 4c hair. I really wanna see the difference because they smell nice, the packaging is pretty but it feels like it does nothing. Hair grease be lit though.
Girl)l you are so right, I had hair down my back when I used to used dax in the green jar, everyone in my house used it. I've been using it 3 times a week, because my hair is very dry.
OH MY GODDD!! 😍As a S.T.E.M. biology Major, I immediately SUBSCRIBED. You said exactly what I thought for a longggg time! Seeing black women show off their intelligence in science is amazing!! Definitely supporting you! Stay blessed and know that you're amazing! 😍🤗♥️♥️♥️
I'm a RN, We don't have enough black people in the sciences. I find other races don't know or care to deal with us as patients. Teach your kids about a career in one of the sciences. This is URGENT !! We are dying unnecessarily.
ALL OF US BLACK WOMEN were raised on hair grease! Now we act like it’s the devil. REMEMBER....our hair grew just fine as kids using it. We only start experiencing problems after that first relaxer or Jheri curl. I use SULFER 8 (the price is starting to sky rocket because it is stilll good)
@@curlslegitbaby2981 It grew, our hair broke off as a result of trying all of this stuff to try and change the texture. If you have EVER had a relaxer, you tried to change your texture. Aint nothing wrong with grease
Exactly! I was in middle school and begged my mom for a relaxer because all the other girls had one. 🙄 My mom kept telling me she didn’t think it was a good idea; that I didn’t need one. Well, unfortunately, my persistence paid off. Mom gave in and took me to a popular, licensed cosmetologist. Maaaan, my hair starting declining after that and regret eventually set in. 😩😔 I told my husband a few days ago, if we have a daughter and she wants a relaxer, I’m telling her NO! Even if I gotta do her hair up until she graduates college. 😆 I’ll also tell her why though (my story). Mothers really DO know best!
Yes!!! I grew up in the 80s. My mom and generations past used hair grease. My hair was relaxed by the time I was six years old and my mom continued using hair grease and styling my hair with braids and/or roller sets. My hair was always thick and healthy. As an adult, I began to add color dyes, and heat. Thats when I began to experience breakage. I went natural 3 years ago and I have ONLY used natural products like shea butter and JBCO. My 4c hair eats it up! So I'm am happy that this video reminds me that grease is OKAY. It worked then and it will work now😊. Love the info💗
Right. If hair grease was good to my grandma's tresses, ushered us through the beautiful regal afro's of the 60's and 70's...its definitely good enough for me today. Think about that.
Thank you...grease grew our hair when our mom's took care of our hair. Get a little age on us and we all of a sudden know best. I have truly come back to what I know best.
I'm so glad that an actual chemist has spoken out about how hair grease does not clog the pores. There is some misinformation going on about grease being bad for the scalp because it clogs pores AND results in less blood circulation to the scalp! LESS BLOOD CIRCULATION! Yeah, I can't believe it either but this is the misinformation that is going around.
@@luciaescobarz Coconut oil is like a hit or miss. It seems like half of the people it works for, and the other half gets negative affects from it. I like coconut oil but it can't compare to grease, considering it doesn't keep my hair as moisturized for a longer period of time.
My daughter was practically bald for the longest while until I started using grease for her hair. Now everyone is excited about how long her hair has gotten and how good it looks, until I mentioned what I use. Now everyone is telling me to stop, because it's bad for her hair. And I'm like, really? Are you people serious? XD
Your story reminds me of Madame CJ Walker, before her product so many women suffered from scalp issues and baldness, until she (and also Annie Malone) came out with the Miracle Hair Grower, which contained petroleum as well. I'm glad you're seeing results with your daughters hair! :-)
Exactly. Like....our (well my) mother n grandmother used grease on our hair decades ago. Our hair flourished n grew nicely. Now all of a sudden it's a problem. Ppl start changing rules bout their natural hair like it's ur hair too and what we shouldn't do based on their experience. I still use grease to this day
I've officially went back to grease as of TODAY!! I have a jar of blue magic sitting in my bathroom for at least 2 yrs unopened. I should've never stopped using grease. I cracked it open and greased my scalp like it was 1983! I'm so sorry I fell victim to these new products over the last 25 years. I'm paying for it now! Smh
Ain't nothing wrong with grease. Grease was a friend to us back in the day. We have to stop treating our hair like our Asian and Caucasian sisters. Our hair is different and need to be treated with extra care.
Some white folks use hair grease, too. I was shocked to learn. My former landlady and her husband both used hair grease. Her husband came in with jar of Softee. They also a bunch Shea Moisture stuff too.
I’ve been cheating on grease with Shea Moisture ... forget that blue Majoc is the reason my hair grew crazy fast after I did a big chop when I was 16... all the black girls at my school started their natural hair journey because the saw how fast my hair grew and how healthy it was .... I’m coming back to you grease ... I’m not cheating anymore I’m a changed woman
I have been using hair gr on my hair since I was a little girl because that was so go to my mother always use from my hair and as I grow up I continue sticking with the old tradition it has worked wonders on my hair, my hair grease that I use is petroleum Vaseline I mix that with red iodine olive oil, and you can also use essential oils lavender oil rosemary oil and peppermint oil and makes all together and used in your hair and your scalp
@@weirdmyst7963 yes Vaseline as well. Vaseline is the most popular name brand of petrolatum also known as petroleum jelly. Petrolatum also known as petroleum jelly is the active main ingredient in all the products listed above. I use Wal-Mart brand petrolatum. It's on the shelf right next to Vaseline brand petrolatum. It can also be used on the hair. Just no added ingredients. The brands above have more added like castor oil or beeswax. Lanolin, fragrance, herbs. But it's all mixed into petrolatum. If you want to use plain Vaseline it works pretty much the same. I knew people growing up who used nothing but water and Vaseline. Their hair was fine.
@@nuninuninu5095 I agree, plain Vaseline does so much for us. Having suffered from dry skin and living in a dry place like Alberta; I finally yielded to just plain Vaseline for my skin and I no longer itch. Couldn't believe how effective it is.
I recently started using hair grease as a sealant. It’s been 6weeks now and I am really pleased at how well it keeps my moisture locked in. I shampoo once a week so I have no issues with build up. So happy you made this video.
The key words are: it keeps the hair 1. Soft 2. Moisture retention 3. Preventing tangling as it allows hair strands to slide against each other I have re-introduced it to my regimen because of number 1 and 3. Thanks for confirming am not just confused 😃😃
Great video. Back in the old days, my mom and her mom used hair grease and their hair grew to tail bone length and remained healthy until they both crossed over to the other side. .#ripmomandgrandma
Thanks for this video! I returned to hair grease a few months ago and my natural hair has totally become EVERYTHING that I thought it wasn't! I found out that I didn't have "bad" hair when I began to use hair grease as a sealant (I also use it on my scalp). I discovered that my hair was dry-not "bad". The "kitchen oils" have been returned to the pantry and are no longer running down my face and leaving my thick, high-density head of hair dry as a bale of hay 2 hours after applying as a sealant. 🤣🤣
It’s gotten to the point where I feel like a lot of these beauty gurus were fake and in partnership with larger brands who wanted to take advantage of us moving away from products that have always worked for us.
Thank you. A lot of them will talk about a product. When you go and check on the price price is high with a small amount of ounces. People will say. Support your black hair companies. How can you support them. Where products are too expensive.
People need to remember that Black women spend BILLIONS per year on hair products, more than any other ethnic group. So we should not be surprised that all these products are marketed to us. And away from hair grease that is inexpensive (and less money for them.) Sometimes old school is best.
blue magic team!! Castor oil. and indian hemp. Had a set back in my natural hair journey. this time im using grease to seal in all that good moisture. keeping my routine simple and cheap.
We have strayed away from what was working in the past to all these new and expensive products that don’t work. There is always new products on the market and it just so confusing , you buy these products and they don’t work. We are just wasting our our money because it ends up in the garbage. Do you ever wonder why they don’t have free samples anymore?
I stopped listening to the natural gurus awhile ago and went back to my grease and my hair loves it. I loving sulfur 8, doo groo, blue magic, and virgin hair fertilizer.
My hair LOVES grease! I stopped using it due to the natural hair community and I started using oils on my scalp. My scalp does not thrive with oil, it sucks it up within a few hours. Hair grease keeps my scalp so happy and my hair lush and soft!
Growing up it was nothing but water, grease and a good brush. I had long pony tails. And nothing was better than getting a friend to grease your scalp...lol. I have curly hair and can't seem to keep it moisturized, or retain length even with a ton natural hair products. Now I realize I gotta take it back to the basics and it's way less expensive!!
The best "grease" I've ever used is actually the Mimosa Hair Honey pomade from Carol's Daughter. It isn't greasy at all, it instantly calms frizz, and it makes my hair more manageable.
chatwithchika I love Mimosa Honey Hair Pomade! It contains no petroleum or mineral oil, which are too much for my fine strands. It does a great job at sealing in moisture and it smells great!
I think it's important to emphasize that grease is a sealant for use on damp hair and not to be used on dry hair. We want to seal in moisture not exacerbate dryness when using grease.
I use grease on dry hair right after I blow dry and mid week still on dry hair. The only water my hair sees is during the 1-2 times per week that I wash. My hair is just fine. You can use grease on dry hair if you aren't waiting 2+ weeks before washing again. Some of the jars even state to use on dry hair. It's a LUBRICANT as well and that's what I use it for.
Yh I got fed up with all this natural stuff and said to myself “back in the day my mom used grease, her mom used grease and it was ok!” My daughter’s 4c hair gets very dry but I find her hair loves grease so back to the grease it it. I spritz it with oil and water and seal it with Dax and her hair retains moisture for weeks. I am not allowing anybody to bad talk my grease!
I think the reason why hair grease (mineral oil & petrolatum based products) became a taboo in the natural hair community is cuz when you do research on mineral oil (which are articles online authored by wyt people), they say it’s bad for hair and scalp. So I’m glad that thanks to your channel, people with Afro textured hair can be better informed on what’s good & bad for our hair instead of going off of what’s good & bad for the hair of people with Type 1-2 hair.
The mineral use is grease is in a very refined form so it does not hair to year hair....this is what people are getting confuse with...not like they take the raw petroleum and slap it in grease
THANK YOU x Infinity! My GOODNESS I am SO sick of these "grease is bad for your hair it will clog your pores" natural hair fake knowledge heffas! Like you said, why quit something that has worked for YEARS? And you are right: I, too, believe it's only a matter of time before these natural hair care companies come out with their own versions of hair grease. I cannot thank you enough. This video is much needed and I really appreciate your time. THANK YOU! 😁
When I was growing up that was the main product to apply to the hair. It kept the hair soft, moisturized and gave it sheen. Greased the scalp if it itched to sooth it.😊
I went back to hair grease, I was trying to follow the “no grease” hair movement but my hair wasn’t growing and it started to thin in the middle of my head like real thin so now I’m back to the basics and I’ve seen so much progress. Hair grease was the only thing my mom used on my head and I had thick hair
My hair never could stand grease even growing up n I found it hard to understand that my hair simply didn't like heavy creams, butter n grease. But now I understand that what I want is not necessarily what my hair wants too ,you just have to give ur hair what it wants and let others give their hair what it wants. Period. Keep up the good work sis 🥂🙌
I'm so happy you shared this.... I've been a licensed Cosmetologist for 20 years and I've been telling all my clients this forever......this is actually one of the first things I learned in cosmetology school when we were taught about the science of products and haircare. I personally have always used what works for my client. Every one of my client's regimen is different. I use product depending on how their hair and scalp react to the product. Also sometimes their hair will react well to a product for quite a while, and then it will stop reacting....so I learned early in my career to do what works for the client and their haircare needs. Thanks again for sharing. God bless!
how are you thanks for your comment because I just finished listening to 2 cosmetologist who work together that are bashing hair grease...I was totally confused after watching them..guess they went to a different type of cosmetoloy school
I just used grease for the first time. Washed, conditioned, moisturized then greased and twists. Soooo moisturizing. Rocking my twists right now. I used Blue magic. I purchased it about 2 months ago and never used it but I co washed my hair on Monday and the next day had flakes so I washed two days later and decided to try the grease. I like it. I used the Mielle Honey and Pomegranate Leave in water and blue magic. Pleasantly pleased.👌🏾
Yess I love this! I used to moisturize my hair with only leave in and an oil and noticed that my hair would only stay moisturized for 1 or 2 days. After incorporating blue magic grease into my hair care routine, my hair is able to stay moisturized for days and my curls are more defined. I see grease being a product I just can’t live without! Love your videos!! ❤️❤️
Our ancestors used hair grease for years, and I never stopped using it. Some of my favorite are as listed: Doo Gro, Nu Gro ( Black owned), Palmer's Olive Oil, and Blue Magic just to name a few. When a trend comes in, people are quick to follow what's popular. Im not into trends, and love my grease. Love your content!!!
Fav greases so far are Blue Magic’s super sure gro and Africa’s Best Super Gro “Stay with what works” my mom always used pomades and hair grease and I never stopped. I love this channel because you use science to explain everything and I‘ll take that over following trends every time. The natural community is so fickle, I just appreciate your channel actually educating!
After trying in vain, looking for conditioners that would work on my hair, I started using hair grease a few weeks ago. Then I asked myself why it didn't cross my mind since I did the big chop in 2017. Growing up, both before we started using relaxers and after, it was the only one thing that we used that softened our hair...and I have very thick, high density, low porosity, kinky hair. The results were instant manageability. Just rub it in and boom! With that, I'm done wasting money on different condioners.
I use blue magic (the green one) on all my braid clients. All of my regulars have hair! Grease was always a black staple! I never fell for the no grease fad. Sometimes you have to use your own discretion! Idk anyone who grease has failed.
honestly, my grandmother used grease in my hair as a child & i'm excited to say i've made my way back to it. it's definitely made my hair more healthy and manageable more than any other "natural hair care" back to the basics 💓
I was raised on "team DAX" and am about to go back to using it. As a child and teenager in the 80's and 90's my hair was not just long, it was thick. As an adult it's long but very thin. I'm going back to basics. Thank you for this video.
I grew up on Ultra Sheen and Luster's Pink. I don't really like the new formula of Luster's, but Ultra Sheen (the blue one) loves me and I love her lol. My mom STILL uses Ultra Sheen and lays her edges with Luster's pink and water.
My hair has grown so much since going back to hair grease. The healthiest. I mix Sulfur8, Doo Gro and Blue Magic. I liquify it and use a dropper to apply it. ✨💕✨
My shea butter is running out, and there’s no way I’m going to the African store at the mall to get some more! I guess my next sealant is gonna be some hair grease! 😅
I'm going back to hair grease because I tried some of the natural hair products and they don't grow my hair much. Hair grease and water are the things that are helping me to grow back my hair. I'll keep using what works for me.
I grew up and used, all the way into my late 30’, V05 hair dressing conditioner, in the gold box, until they stopped selling it in stores. That stuff was amazing. So lightweight and extremely moisturizing. I have thick 4a/4b hair and my mom used that on my hair from the time I was a toddler. I’m so sad I can’t get it in stores anymore. Only other grease used as a kid was Sufer 8 after I go the English version of Chicken pox (my family was stationed in England and I somehow avoided the shots) and it covered my entire body, even my scalp. I stared losing hair and someone told my about Sulfer 8. Hair grew back fast, thick, and long.
Team blue magic!! Since incorporating grease back into my regimen, my hair has grown tremendously and stayed healthy. I love blue magic Indian hemp grease.
Stopped using hair grease. BUT, it was the only thing that stopped my tangles from getting the best of me. I recently found ORS hair grease, which is NOT a grease but a cream that melts away tangles. YAY!
@@DefineMorena Sorry it took some time before seeing your question. The one I have is called ORS "HAIRestore Hair Fertilizer." I used to use it years ago during my perm days, when it went by a different name. Recently saw a few CZcams ladies talking about Blue Magic (which I never used before.) I went looking for it but found the ORS and remembered how it took out (perm) tangles, and thought I'd try it again on my natural hair. It really works and I don't have greasy hair a couple days later. It seems to melt into my hair.
I have thick wavy hair and I love hair grease. I use blue magic Indian hemp. Are use natural oil’s in my hair but it tends to absorb them very quickly so it feels dry after a short while. Hair grease really does seal in the moisture. Lots of times I don’t even use the natural oils. Every now and then I’ll use a leave in conditioner before the grease. I love it. :-) I also use natural shampoos for the most part and it always gets the grease out of my hair.
Girl, I love you so much. I just have so much enjoyment seeing this beautiful, natural, educated black woman on the internet teaching people about common misconceptions in the natural hair community. Keep it up please!
I am so glad to see that a Chemist has joined the ranks and blowing the whistle that hair grease is not bad for our hair. I just became a new subbie and I truly appreciate you taking the time to re-educate our people on the benefits of using hair grease. Growing up (I am in my mid-fifties) my mom would spend three to five or more hours every Saturday washing, conditioning and then oiling my two sisters and my hair with hair grease. We used Royal Crown, Blue Magic or B&B for years. It was not just our household, the entire neighborhood as well as all of my family members from grandmothers, aunts, nieces and even uncles were using the hot or as we called it back then, the straightening comb to get our hair looking good for Sunday service and to wear the majority of the week until next wash day. Just last night, I used my B&B Super Grow Hair Grease that I mixed with Sulfur 8 (The Original), The Hair Fertilizer, and another hair grease, alone with Jamaican Black Castor Oil, Wild Growth Oil, and some essential oils to camouflage the smell (I actually liked the smell.....) and lightly oiled my scalp because I have very fine hair, however, my scalp was itching (no dandruff, just dry scalp). I also used some of it on the lengths of my hair after I spritzed it with my home made Aloe Vera Juice, Hibiscus Leaf and Fenegreek Seed with Jamacian Black Castor Oil and essential oils for smell mix and put my hair in two Bantu knots to stretch my hair. I stopped listening to a lot of You Tubers because some of them just were not honest and I felt the best thing for me to do was to start educating myself on what was BEST for me to do with my body including my hair. KNOWLEDGE or actually TRUE KNOWLEDGE is POWERFUL. It is also helping me to keep money in my pocket. Thank you again for making this video and I look forward to watching more of them. Blessings💖💖💖
Grease is fabulous for length retention. It is great for sealing in moisture. I dont touch my hair until the next week when I wash. I ignore the community and do what works for me. Blue magic has a great variety and economical too.
When I went natural 10 years ago, this was before some of today's brands were created. The natural community was trying to figure out the best way to take care of our hair with what was available. It's my opinion that the blind was leading the blind and someone stated that grease was bad. For some reason the community ran with that idea. I eventually started using grease again 5 years ago and haven't looked back. My favorites are the Softee line, Liv grease, and Kuza Indian Hemp.
Tonia682 I will say this - I haven’t been able to find the growth oil in a minute...but I always got it from Walmart for like $2. The grease I found at Dollar Tree...but I think Walmart has it too 💙
Yasss to grease! Virgin hair fertiliser, sulfur8, DAX and hair food are my faves! Yet to try blue magic but when I’m done with my DAX imma give it a try💃🏿💃🏿💃🏿
Thank you for this video!!!! I've been back to using grease especially with protective styles and the winter and my hair is never dry when I use it! My favorite is doo gro and blue magic!
Those things that used to work for us worked for us because we had low manipulation styles as kids. I don’t recall my mom manipulating my hair often. Then again I was tender headed. I guess I’ll give that Mango butter Softee a try. Thank you for this video!
I used the Softee mango butter and indian hemp and honestly they are the best thing that has ever happened to my hair! I've never been a fan on blue magic greases but softee is amazing!
Wow! I never thought I’d see the day we’d gravitate to grease again. But hey if it works, then by all means Use it😀 I just recently made my first Mane Choice purchase (long story) and I’m so pleased! I have the Daily Hair Dressing and it’s heavenly it makes me hair feel so soft and very moisturized for days without any greasy feeling at all.
I started to incorporate grease (Dax) the start of this year and it has helped me with my dry scalp tremendously. I also have low porosity hair and I use it to lock in moisture.
I have naturally high porosity hair. As a kid, my dad would take care of my hair and he’d always use Jergens body lotion 😂 He kept saying nothing else would work. Idk why he never used hair grease. I still appreciate the fact that he took time and effort to do my hair.
Thank you soo much for the clarity on hair grease, especially from a chemist's point of view. My favorite hair grease is blue magic super sure gro. Second fav is Softee indian hemp😊.
I'm glad a professional is saying grease is not bad. I get upset at these CZcamsrs that are saying grease is bad. My scalp in the front of my head was dry and some irritation and was flaking. I put a little grease yesterday to calm it down and it is no longer flaking or irritated! I'm heading right back to grease and using it with my Camille Rose products.
I use hair grease every other day. It makes my hair more moist and less matted when I take my plaits out. I use Softee Indian hemp. I use to use Blue Magic but my hair does not bloke coconut oil not Shea butter.
My favorite hair grease is the qhemet biologics pomade..it pairs so well with most gels i use especially the tacky gels that have the tendency to flake..i love it..my high porosity hair loves grease, thick creams all of that so glad you're talking about this topic 🤗🤗
I have high porosity hair as well. My moisture level is fine, but I still experience frizz and my hair "looks" dry sometimes. Does the grease help with the frizzy and dry look?
@@sharondadottery6551 i just apply it as a curl aide pairing it with gels to give me a good definition. I used to apply it on my scalp daily to moisturize my hair with no problems. The size of the product is too expensive and too small to use it up everyday that's why i decided to use it as a curl aide 😁😁
I love Dax with hemp because it’s not too heavy and it smells great!! My hair loves it. I use it just the way you said when I have itchy scalp which is not often and definitely as the sealant in my hair regimen.👏🏽👏🏽
Giiiiirl! I looove you! Thank you soo much for this! I washed my hair with low poo shampoo and it cleaned all the grease and I was thinking I was crazy! It took me more time to clean it, but it's clean! Thank you, thank you, thaaaaaank you! Petrolatum is what save my high porosity hair!
Thank you, blue magic team. Hair grease saves me money and keeps me from being a product junkie. Best twist out ever, your right that I had was with grease.
I just started to use grease again after over 35yrs! I'm so glad you made this video. I love to use it my hair was very dry curly but DRY. since i went back to basics.....shine baby shine..lol. im using good ole BLUE MAGIC
My mother use to grease my scalp every other day and brush my hair with afro sheen and sometime sulfur 8 had beautiful long hair the best brush is a Stantly brush cost about 20 dollars.
I’ve just discovered your channel and I’m loving the content. I am an Afro Latina with 3b, 3c curly hair. As a child, my mom would use hair grease in my hair (Posner bergamot, “the jar with the star”). After watching one of your videos suggesting hair grease as an option for sealing in moisture, I gave it a try, as my hair doesn’t like straight up hair oil. I’ve seen a tremendous improvement in moisture retention and shine. My hair is naturally very dry, and so is my scalp. I’ve been using Africa’s Best Super Gro. Thanks again for your scientific approach to hair care!
I feel like a proud mama! I was ldpd2009 and your 16th subscriber back when you first started your YT channel.. Seeing you educate us from a chemist point of view has me smiling from ear to ear! You are doing an amazing job! Thank you!! I have gone back to hair grease, I love it, always have. I'm using this Virgo hair fertilizer. It has a tingling effect that makes me feel like it's doing something (like more growth)..but maybe that something is just me massaging my scalp daily??
I love Africa’s Best with the herbs. I used to use hair milk from carols daughter while my hair is damp and seal it in with that grease for my twists outs, and my hair would last too. 😄
I have recently gravitated back to my hair grease. I was swayed in the past by other naturals who claim hair gease is a no go but I realize my hair responds well to it and it makes a huge difference when sealing in my moisture!!!! Love your content!!!🥰
I am so glad that I did not get rid of my hair grease at all. I am going back to what my grandma and ma did to my hair when I was younger: an updated version.
My late grandmother and her sisters and my grandmother's mom RIP had hair down to their butts and all they used was a little hair grease and water. They didn't have all that deep conditioning natural oils an butters. I admit I jumped on the band wagon and stopped using grease for some time. I just recently started using hair grease again and my hair loves it. If it's not broken then don't fix it
I haven't used hair grease in a minute, but recently I've used blue magic super gro and OH MY GOODNESS. My hair could've been retaining length and down to my butt by now lol. I wish I could heart this video instead of giving it a thumbs up. Thank you
I rarely let strangers influence me but Efik Zara convinced me to go back to hair grease lol. I fell into the “natural” trap and completely avoided it. But babyyyyy....I picked up some Blue Magic Organics and the moisture!!! My hair was moisturized for a solid 2 weeks before I re-moisturized. By the way, SUBSCRIBED! Loved your explanation!
So I’ve recently been using hair grease as the last product in my twist out routine (leave in, oil, and cream styler and grease ). My twist out lasted for two weeks 👀👀. I’m in love.
I have very dry hair. Even in my relaxed days. Very early on in my natural "journey" I gave up twice because I was taking the "natural" approach. Listening to CZcamsrs who were recycling the same information. Their information wasn't bad. It obviously worked for them. But I when I realized it wasn't FOR me, things got much easier. I cannot moisturize and seal every day. I do not want to do that every day. On my third attempt, instead of transitioning or anything, I big chopped and went from there doing what felt right. Grease helped keep my 4c/4bTWA from looking like I didn't even try. (I hope y'all know what I mean). The oils did do it for sealing. Though they're fine for my scalp. Anyway, long story short, I made my 3 year mark last month and my hair is healthy and grease has never left my routine again. Blue magic is my preferred grease.
TEAM BOTH!! I started back using blue magic about a year ago. I use a leave in conditioner then seal with the grease. Leaves my hair so moisturized, is AMAZING. I also use sulfur 8 but on my scalp
Thank you so much, because I've never had a problem with it myself, but yes I stopped using it because it was said to be bad, so I did. Thank you for clearing that up for me to use it again. My Favorite Greases are. 1. Growing up my mom would use. 1. Royal Crown, or 2. Blue Magic it was great. 2. In my teen years I would use. 1. B&B Super Gro, and 2. Ultra Sheen, I will still use it from time to time. 3. Now I use 1. Summit Liv Creme Hairdressing cream, and 2. D.I.Y with my hair oils that I have.
Love, Love, Love!!!! Take me back home to my hair grease. Here we go! Getting my grease this weekend. Thank you so much for this because I bought into the hype that it's not good for you, though I used it growing up. You are the best!!! 🙏🙏💓💓
I've been Natural for almost three years and I've used hair grease even before I was natural and I'll never stop using it. I use Blue Magic, Softee, whatever works.
BB Double Strength Super Grow with vitamin E (green one) is my favorite grease. I have also used this with my flat iron. It keeps my hair from frizzing when I iron it.

I am going to start making my own products because I am sick of how expensive black hair products have gotten. Nowadays, drugstore products cost the same as top brands. My favorite grease atm is DooGro. I've been back to using grease for a year and its great for moisturizing hair.
My fav hair grease is Royal Crown Hair Dressing. What do you recommend for moisturizing facial hair? Many of products on the market are quite pricey
Curly Chemistry I saw that you recommend oils like coconut oil to penetrate into the hair first. I was just wondering what that looks like on a wash-day & going forward. Thanks in advance!!!
@curlychemistry What type of hair grease do you recommend?
My hair hates sulfate free shampoos. It dries my hair out and don't wash it out properly because my hair is thick.
Girl)l you are so right, I had hair down my back when I used to used dax in the green jar, everyone in my house used it. I've been using it 3 times a week, because my hair is very dry.

ALL OF US BLACK WOMEN were raised on hair grease! Now we act like it’s the devil. REMEMBER....our hair grew just fine as kids using it. We only start experiencing problems after that first relaxer or Jheri curl. I use SULFER 8 (the price is starting to sky rocket because it is stilll good)
If it grew what happened? I think y'all got a selective memory
@@curlslegitbaby2981 Im sorry,Im not understanding

This videos needs to go viral in the natural hair community. Tired of ppl bashing grease lol. it's been saving my hair since the 90s 🙏🏽
I agree! :-)
Use what work best for you---
🤣🤣🤣❤️✨
Thank you...grease grew our hair when our mom's took care of our hair. Get a little age on us and we all of a sudden know best. I have truly come back to what I know best.
I'm so glad that an actual chemist has spoken out about how hair grease does not clog the pores. There is some misinformation going on about grease being bad for the scalp because it clogs pores AND results in less blood circulation to the scalp! LESS BLOOD CIRCULATION!
Yeah, I can't believe it either but this is the misinformation that is going around.
If that was true, we’d ALL be bald b/c that’s all our moms used back in the day.
@@HappyFeet216 Exactly!
True coconut oil is more dangerous for pores than grease😂
@@luciaescobarz Coconut oil is like a hit or miss. It seems like half of the people it works for, and the other half gets negative affects from it.
I like coconut oil but it can't compare to grease, considering it doesn't keep my hair as moisturized for a longer period of time.
Penelope416 it’s because it contains proteins. My hair is dyed snd needs more proteine because it is horribly high porosity 😱💀
Grease that baby scalp 4ever!! Don't mind the critics xxx
Exactly. Like....our (well my) mother n grandmother used grease on our hair decades ago. Our hair flourished n grew nicely. Now all of a sudden it's a problem. Ain't nothing wrong with grease. Grease was a friend to us back in the day. We have to stop treating our hair like our Asian and Caucasian sisters. Our hair is different and need to be treated with extra care.
Magically different, indeed!
Even between us every hair is different. Grease just does not work for me. Not everything is for everybody.
Chinese people use oil not grease they use natural like olive oil.
I remember when they used to dab a little grease on each section of hair before pressing. And it would literally sizzle!
Me too, I just started using it.
I'll use any hair grease to seal my high porosity hair. Bergamont, Dax, Blue Magic, Royal 👑 Crown etc. you name it.
Royal Crown is the truth!!!🙌🏾
Vaseline?
Me too.

I know you know this already, but I just had to say it... there's no such thing as "bad" hair. All hair is good hair. 😉👍
That may be true.
Same way pharmaceutical companies are behind some major sicknesses out there then they sell drugs to cure the same diseases they sponsored
People need to remember that Black women spend BILLIONS per year on hair products, more than any other ethnic group. So we should not be surprised that all these products are marketed to us. And away from hair grease that is inexpensive (and less money for them.) Sometimes old school is best.

Castor oil. and indian hemp.

We have strayed away from what was working in the past to all these new and expensive products that don’t work. Do you ever wonder why they don’t have free samples anymore?
Yep and I add coconut and tea tree oil to the list

Yes! I really like it 🙌🏽 I wished the jar was at least 10oz, though.
Yes! It melts beautifully. I used it when I did my cornrows this week.
I have a small jar sample and I love it ! I need to get the original size!
I love it too!!
@@cfoster6804 Good point. 👍🏿

Yasss to grease! Virgin hair fertiliser, sulfur8, DAX and hair food are my faves! Yet to try blue magic but when I’m done with my DAX imma give it a try💃🏿💃🏿💃🏿
You're the hair grease expert! You came with it! lol :-)
Curly Chemistry 😂grease is life lol... it keeps my hair moisturised for dayyyyyys and I love it💃🏿💃🏿💃🏿
Yes to Virgin hair fertilizer!!!
creatingcreativity all day everyday sis! added with the baggy method and whewww the growth and thickness comes through!
Muslimah Afiz what’s there baggy method ?
Thank you for this video!!!! I've been back to using grease especially with protective styles and the winter and my hair is never dry when I use it! My favorite is doo gro and blue magic!
Science and natural hair care 😍 this is my new fav channel!
Yay! Thank you! :-)
@@DatSmile1 Blue Magic stinks too. I like my hair smelling like food lol.
I second the mango butter Softee! Good stuff! :-)
Wow! I never thought I’d see the day we’d gravitate to grease again. But hey if it works, then by all means Use it😀
I just recently made my first Mane Choice purchase (long story) and I’m so pleased!
Yessss!! It's great! :-)
I have naturally high porosity hair. As a kid, my dad would take care of my hair and he’d always use Jergens body lotion 😂 He kept saying nothing else would work. Idk why he never used hair grease. I still appreciate the fact that he took time and effort to do my hair.
Lol
I’m so glad you made this video. I’m especially glad to know that you don’t need a super strong shampoo to wash the grease out.
Thank you soo much for the clarity on hair grease, especially from a chemist's point of view. My favorite hair grease is blue magic super sure gro. Second fav is Softee indian hemp😊.
You are so welcome! :-)
Have you notice significant growth love ?
I'm glad a professional is saying grease is not bad. I get upset at these CZcamsrs that are saying grease is bad. My scalp in the front of my head was dry and some irritation and was flaking. I put a little grease yesterday to calm it down and it is no longer flaking or irritated! I'm heading right back to grease and using it with my Camille Rose products.
Yess! Grease is amazing! ☺️
Grease is great. Im currently using DAX. Its a childhood staple. My hair's moisture stays locked in for several days
I use hair grease every other day. It makes my hair more moist and less matted when I take my plaits out. I use Softee Indian hemp. I use to use Blue Magic but my hair does not bloke coconut oil not Shea butter.
When i used coconut oil and shea, my hair responds with : "what manner of witch craft is this!@$%"
nissimusic2 lol mine too
The blue blue magic had no oil in it, it doesn't have those fruity candyish scents everyone likes though
Started using heair grease this summer. Game changer. It keeps my high porosity hair moisturized. It shampoos out earily.. Blue magic baby!
I love Dax with hemp because it’s not too heavy and it smells great!! My hair loves it. I use it just the way you said when I have itchy scalp which is not often and definitely as the sealant in my hair regimen.👏🏽👏🏽
Yesss! :-)
Just because of this I am going back to Doo Gro and will try Virgin Hair Fertilizer, even getting back to Sulfur 8!! Thanks!!
Same here!!! Heading to the store tomorrow to pick up the products you've mentioned.
Praise the lord! I always loved hair grease and I remember back in the day people would use grease and water. I am team blue magic!
Praise the Lord? Sooo,,, The video is about God?
Hallelujah!
@@Michelle-pn9xt God is interested in every area of our lives... This woman knows how to give thanks
I just started to use grease again after over 35yrs! I'm so glad you made this video. I love to use it my hair was very dry curly but DRY. since i went back to basics.....shine baby shine..lol. im using good ole BLUE MAGIC
I love hair grease, its life ,I love Blue Magic and Bergamot
YESSS I'VE BEEN WAITING AT THE DOOR FOR THIS VIDEO HEHE
At da door!! I love it! Thank you for watching! :-)
Thank God someone has said something positive about hair grease. I still use it now that I am natural and it really helps, not henders.
Yesssss this is what I do as well! Love it
I have recently gravitated back to my hair grease.
Thank you
My fav is Carol’s Daughter honey mimosa. But that African Pride $2 grease can get the job done too. My hair just likes the CD better.
I love the blue magic with coconut oil. It smells sooooooo good! 😍it keeps my hair moisturized when I wear braids and it’s helped a ton with shedding!
Great video. I am using hair grease because I am sick and tired of new products coming out. It is too expensive. They do not give amount of products.
I just start using the super gro hair grease on my daughter and boy was I missing out. Her hair is still glossy and sooooooo moisturized
Thank you, I still use hair grease. I use blue magic I do a video every month using blue magic
