I truly love how on fire you are about sharing what you love. It is inspiring to watch and I love the creative ideas you have that bring so much to your aquariums and also to your presentation in your videos. I have learned so much in the short time since i discovered your channel and I truly appreciate you sharing all of the cost effective and resourceful solutions you come up with and how clearly you explain things. Keep doing what you do and never stop. You are providing an invaluable resource to those of us that share a love for various aquatic stuffs. My turtle, Bowser (Mario Bros reference), and his abnormally and freakishly large goldfish roomie, Cleo (Pinocchio reference), 2 plecos, and 3 minnows and a surprisingly fast breeding mess of mystery snails, also extend their heartfelt gratitude for teaching me things that help keep their tank healthy and them happy. They will soon be moving into a much more spacious 55 gallon with a diy basking platform on top (so Bowser can work on his tan more), from their current 29 gallon and your videos have helped me have a good understanding of filtration and tank health and I am now confident that I can diy an awesome filtration system without breaking the bank. I currently have a Fluval 107 canister filter and a hang on double waterfall filter (ugly with a way too strong flowing output) and also under gravel filtration because i figured why not so i know i will need to beef up the filtration because of the bigger tank and ive been trying to decide on what kind to make. I am diy-ing a surface skimmer currently to put the Fluval input tube down into to keep plant parts from clogging the input up as much so hopefully that works like i want it to and am making some fake rocks for the basking platform wall to hide the guts of the platform and make it prettier hopefully. Anyways, i just wanted to share my appreciations and bowsers tank stuff with you and hopefully you enjoyed reading this novel i have just written here and i wouldn't be mad if you had any advice or must watch videos you could direct me to that are also relevant to my situation possibly. Ok so if you are still reading this i will end by saying thank you for your passion and bye.

I like the Slim Overflows because they take up very little space. I’m sure you would have been able to pipe them separately so both tanks were separate still with sumps, however there is nothing wrong with an internal filter. When done right you get a much easier to maintain system than with a sump.

Black acrylic might make it look cleaner if you're not going for cheap cheap. I really love this idea and will definitely use this when I some day get a huge tank. Question, and sorry if it's already been asked and answered, but if the filter is designed for water to simply flow into the filter via gravity how do you keep it filtered when the water level drops below the filters mouth? Obviously the easy answer is to keep water levels consistent, but many of us in the hobby have periods where we find it impossible to do simple maintenance.

@@nellim9239 I use bio foam sponge in my sump before it hit the k1 substrate. That's it.
Easy to use. Easy to clean. K1 likely never needs to be cleaned. It's a self cleaning because the air will get rid of the bad stuff.
The sponge I do every month or so. So that the sump can't and will not overflow if it's gets to dirty.

    Always love your DIY builds.
The drawback I see with this is unless you are doing multiple tanks, this is not economical. At least in my area, you can only buy a 4x8 sheet of the panels, they are running $60-70 per sheet and if you want eggcrate light diffuser, it's close to $30 for a 2x4 sheet. If for just one tank, not very affordable IMO. Even acrylic/plexiglass has went through the roof in price.

I got a 4x8 piece at Home Depot for $15 (it is white instead of clear). They had a couple of pieces that were dented and banged up a little at the bottom. Talked to the manager and he knocked the price down to $15. Did get sticker shock today looking at egg crate at Lowes (wasn't thinking far enough ahead to see what Home Depot had). There are some egg crate aquarium dividers on Amazon that don't look too expensive.
If you don't need a full sheet of something (like in this project) if there are some banged up or damaged ones - it is always worth asking if they will discount it.

What type of pump are you using in that sump... Thank for what you do.

  • @SouthAmericanBiotopeAquariums

Nice Video! What about the dirt on the substrate? Wouldnt it be a possibility to do a second inflow near the bottom and use a streamline pump to get the dirt in there?

Can I use corrugated plastic for this filter instead of polycarbonate twinwall?

Loads of tanks have this setup, a lot of the Red Sea tanks but you see this mostly pre build in saltwater tanks.

Fantastic video! Can you list out the materials? Is it just regular construction silicon caulk to attach everything.
I’d like to see if this internal sump can work with smaller tanks. I have a 20gal long and a 40gal tall, and I’m kind of done dealing with external filters (space, noise).
