Imagine you are best known as a metal singer and take part in a singing TV show. If your home country completely blows its mind (they think metal singers can only scream), you get the opportunity to sing the absolute best-known song from your favorite musical in a duet with one of your youth idols and this duet then acquires something like cult status. In addition, your youth idol will learn a form of singing that is actually an absolute no-go for his normal style of singing and you will also become friends. Add to that the fact that before this show hardly anyone knew you in your home country and now your shows there are (almost) always sold out,... well then you know what overperforming is, but in a good way
