Trails is slowly becoming my favorite JRPG series. I'm so happy to see it get its flowers.
i too like seeing my favorite JRPG get flowers from people
What I love about Falcom's JRPGs is that things can happen even without player input
That first video is a big reason why I played trought the trilogy and then the rest of the Trails games. They are now my favorite JRPG. I might replay trought it again after Daybreak.
Your review of the first Trails in the Sky is what made me discover your channel, glad to have been following you since then :)
Me too!!
Same :D
I don't think I've said this yet, but I'm super grateful for your coverage on this series. Been a huge fan of your channel since the Fallout 3 days and seeing you talk about a series that very quickly became one of my favorites of all time really hit home and felt special to me. Very excited to see what Falcom has in store for us in the near future, and for fans to get their hands on Daybreak soon. I really don't mind what form the Sky games take in order to be put on modern consoles, but a Sky remake in Kai's engine... sweet baby Ragnard that would be insane. Appreciate this video a lot Matty, stay classy my man!
Sky 3rd is one of my favorites too, even playing Kuro 2 right now it's still being utilized in terms of lore and small details. I just laugh when I see people still say it's filler xD
f it isn't the biggest fan of the northern war mobile xd
@@kjriwoutube I probably got the rawest enjoyment out of it so, that might not even be wrong xD oh great... that's not what I wanted my legacy to be, lol
I still think it's wild that so many of us trails fans have similar trajectories.
@@Cyrus_Bright I'm still playing it. Why am I still playing it?
@@Cynicz13 you're starved for Trails content? But don't worry, Daybreak will break the curse xD
Sky SC and especially Star Door 15 in 3rd will always stay with me for as long as I live. Thoroughly memorable gaming moments
Finished the sky trilogy and Zero-Azure. Almost done with CS1. Such an amazing franchise. I can't believe I haven't heard about it until last year. My friend recommended them to me.
same, I'm in chapter 5 of cs1
I JUST started CS3 , the joy I feel simply PLAYING it is kinda crazy NGL. Its shaping up to be my fav , enjoy CS1 and 2!
Couldn't be happier that this video is being released on this day!
I literally finished Trails in the Sky a few hours ago and now I'm watching this video and I'm sooo hyped for the next parts of the series!
Even more so since it's one of your absolute favorite games of all time!
I currently have almost all of the Trails games here (except Nayuta & Zero) and can't wait to continue experiencing this series and fall in love with this huge world...
Thanks for this great video!!!
Matty you were the reason I decided to jump into the trails journey and now I'm on Cold Steel 1 and loving the journey soo far! Thank you!
I'm so happy you made this video! I really think you've helped a lot of people discover and fall in love with this series, like me! ❤
Oh yeah, starting the video off with “cry for me”, absolutely solid mate. I love this series so much. Discovered it right before Covid hit and when I was laid off I played through sky 1-3, the crossbell duology (with the Geofront translation), then cold steel 1-3. Omg it was magical. Cold steel 4 for westernized and I finished that, cementing itself as one of my all time favorite series. After finishing reverie, I’m so SO ready for Kuro no kiseki
I was so happy you did a video in Trails in the Sky. I found your channel when you first played Trails in the Sky! A lot of people say Sky FC starts too slow but the trilogy is still my favorite in series and it means the world to me and Estelle is the best protagonist. I at least want a remaster with the vita evo voices
I think I saw a MattMcmuscles covering the localization of this franchise and a rather dark moment with one of the translators that thankfully got a happy ending. I'm glad people get to enjoy this franchise and this coming from a guy who's not a fan of JRPGS
I’m so happy rn! I just started Trails from Zero, so an in the Sky video is exactly what I need. I loved them sooo much.
As a lot of others are saying, Trails is probably my favorite JRPG series (or just RPG in general) of all time! It’s just unmatched in story telling, world building, etc etc
This series just recently became my 2nd fav jrpg behind the xenoblade series. A few hours away from finishing trails in the sky 1. Can’t wait to run through the entire series!
Your original video made become a trails fan. I played every game in the series after that video. I’m so thankful you showed us such a gem of a series.
I know this series’s popularity can only go up, videos like this help
Your review made me try out the series and i love it so much, underrated gem of a series
"A cat relaxing in the sun" has to be one of the best and most relaxing songs in any game. As you said, all the Trails music is great, but that song grabbed me.
Best JRPG franchise of all time!
My fav games in the series, much better than some later games IMO
Great to see all the Trails love in the comments I've been playing Trails since before SC had it's localisation and we were stuck on that cliffhanger for years
I'm almost jealous of people who are experiencing the series for the first time and can play uninterrupted from FC Through Daybreak 😁 😉
Just wanna say this channel has been a great source of comfort for me when I really needed it. Been playing through final fantasy games and love your videos on them. Thank you
Your videos are what got me into the Trails series.
What an ambitious series!
Bro Ive literally been watching your other Kiseki videos from the other channel since I am currently playing through the series and I thought this was another old one when I saw it lol.
You talking about old anime games and Trails is what got be subbed to your channel , I have been watching some of your videos ever since. Thank you as always.
Thank you Matty for singing the praises of this wonderful series. It was thanks to you that I dove in and experienced this excellent trilogy for myself.
I love this so much! I finally beat Cold Steel 4 just a few days ago and have been putting Reverie off so I can take a break from the series for a little bit, but I COMPLETELY understand the feeling you mentioned about how progressing through the series does create sort of a sense of yearning for the trilogy that started it all. I've been wanting to replay the Sky games SO much recently! They are so special to me, and it would be interesting to revisit those older games after having spent so much time getting better acquainted with the mechanics.
Estelle's theme always playing in my mind.
My crazy crackpot trails conspiracy theory is that there is still something in Liberl, and there's a reason why the series started in that nation. I think that, at the very end of this series, whenever that is, there will be a moment when all the Avengers assemble in Liberal to go off to whatever the final battle of trails is.
The legend of hero games is my favorite JRPGs. I only found out about them when you made a steam sale video On your main channel A few years back I believe. cold steel one was on the list. Even though the sky series is on PlayStation and switch but just not for the West. I just hope they bring those games To those platforms soon.
Trails is one of those franchises that function without you ever engaging with it.
Just wanted to thank you for introducing me to these games Matty! Im currently up to azure and it’s become my favourite jrpg series!❤
Crazy timing just started tails in the sky SC this week and it’s hooking me like no Jrpg has in a long time ! Can’t wait to catch up
just bought these games recently. you should do the Ys series
Always love your Trails videos Matty! Can’t wait for Daybreak!
my favourite franchise, please keep spreading the trails agenda! Already finished Kuro in JP but im so excited to 100% the english release soon.
Trails is like the one piece of jrpgs. Excellent world, characters, and story.
I noticed a small but cool overlap between these 2 fanbases , as a fan of both myself , I completely agree.
Beat the Sky games just a few weeks ago and honestly left me speechless for a few days. The story and the world was so immersive that I jumped straight into the crossbell arc(finished zero just last night).
Perfect timing. I’m just finishing Sky the 3rd!
I got into trails around a year ago. Im now finishing Hajimari just in time for Kuro english release. This is definitely my favorite game franchise!
Nice refresher on the series that started it all. Cant wait for Daybreak!
The marrying proposal story was so cute
I have Trails Zero on Switch sealed but who knows if I'll ever play it because I heard you have to play several games before and after to understand the story
Ideally you should play the games that are talked about in this video before Zero because Zero relies pretty heavily on a lot of the plot points that happen in this game and a lot of the biggest emotional payoffs won't hit if you aren't familiar with backstories. Any Windows PC built in the last 20 years or so will run the Sky trilogy flawlessly, but the first two are also available on PSP and all three Sky games are available if you have a hacked Vita and are willing to do some faffing about to install the English localization patches. Zero is still a great game in its own right, though, and its sequel, Azure, relies less on knowledge of the Sky trilogy.
im at the finale of Ao no kiseki and im really glad i took the plunge to delve into this game series.
Best Saga Ever!
It's been a few years since I first got into Trails, but I still look back on the Sky arc very fondly for having some of my favourite character writing in the series. Maybe I should revisit these games someday on the highest difficulty setting, potentially go for all achievements hmmm...
Yeah, I've been spending the larger part of the last 3 years playing through this series. I did stop to take a break and play other games a couple of times in between to avoid burnout, but found myself being drawn back into the world of Zemuria really quickly most times. I'm currently close to the end of Act 3 in Reverie. Don't think I'll make it through, before Daybreak comes out. But I had to take a longer break before starting Reverie, because last year I played both Crossbell games and then Cold Steel 3+4 all in a row. It feels weird to think that I'm almost caught up on a series that's been ongoing for 20 years.
In my opinion one of the greatest JRPG Trilogies ever created! Everyone should experience Sky games at least once in their life!
Wow this video is incredible
I had a FFXIV ad right at the part in the video talking about it lol. NICE
This ia a good review of the entire sky trilogy
I’m playing the Sky trilogy now, currently on SC! I played Zero through Reverie, now gone back to Sky. I plan on doing a NG+ of the rest before going through Daybreak 😅
Im currently playing Reverie and have played all previous titles. Sky SC is still my favorite game of the series and Estelle is still the best protagonist.
This is how I played the sky trilogy on my ps3 I bought all 3 copies from Japan and used a walkthrough on CZcams where the game is in English
Trails has got to be my #1 franchise of all time and Sky SC is probably my favorite JRPG of all time. Can't wait to pick up Daybreak day one
It's best jrpg series ever for me.
For anyone looking to get into the series: Sky is the ideal starting point. Think of it like Kingdom Hearts. Yeah, you can technically start anywhere, but you won't know the past things that do get heavily referenced (especially the further you go). Yes, even the events from the Sky trilogy get referenced. The story is actually interconnected and they throw out massive spoilers for things that have concluded in the past arcs. It's not really purist talk, just a wish for people to experience this great series and see how it evolved step by step. Sky is the simple beginnings basically, and I'm really glad I got to experience it.
Really, trails are something that simply is not done before all the games have one narrative about this world it's simply amazing
I got a good one um Meet the Robinsons and Chicken Little Ace in Action.
Please no remake. I’m done with remakes. Please just release the god damn games we love on modern platforms so that we can actually play them!!
Peak is right, the trails games are amazing.
I’m playing these on vita in English alongside the zero and azure patch’s now to find time to play 😅 still in chapter 2 and I started almost a month ago just been busy with work
Love me some Trails content.
I developped a strong feeling of nostalgia for the first trilogy too. FC and the 3rd being my favorites. Such amazing games. 3rd actually crushed my soul. I love it so much. FC is so simple yet so epic. It strongly reminds me of Grandia, my favorite game. This is why I prefer it over SC that was a bit too long and too reliant on bringing every one together. I felt it was sometimes forced. It was great nonetheless.
Man I hope they port the Trails in the sky trilogy to the Switch. I have trails from zero, trails to azure, trails into reverie, trails of cold steel 3 and 4 on the switch, and I'll be pre ordering daybreak soon. I bought a ps vita and bought trails of cold steel for it and will be buying cold steel 2 for the vita as well. I haven't started playing the games yet because i want to play them in order, starting with trails in the sky. Might have to get then on steam.
I wouldn't "gatekeep" that much with starting in another arc of the series, because I started with CS1 (Sky was forever in my steam wishlist, since before it's release there) and it hooked me from the very start, so I played the first finished it right on time for CS2 and continued there until the end of CS4. After that I went back to Sky played through the series until CS1 and it was a nice experience, because there were so many moment like "Omg, so that's what was mentioned in CS", so it was kinda like playing prequels to it.
I still have Azure on hold, but there are too many great and large games that I can't casually play Azure next to them, but I'll try to start it in July and Daybreak, the CE will collect dust in that time, right after it.
It is probably my most favorite game series of all time.
I like Trails of the sky 1 and 2. I could not get into 3 because of the setting. I liked exploring the world in the first 2 games.
Example of just how long-term interconnected this series is: A major battle between two characters from Sky SC is explicitly invoked in the *opening movie to Daybreak.*
Which fight ??
@@gabrielike1370 Zin vs. Walter.
I would be super happy with a port, remake would be most amazing too though!!
omg a jumpscare to see my face/video on this channel haha.
I have played Trails of cold steel 1 and 2 as first and it was quite unique and even emotional experience (quite similar to Kingdom hearts in a way) even though I didn't knew about sky series or crossbell arc so I am planning to go through all accessible games so excitement is trough the roof already being on chapter 2 of SC
Did you know we are getting remakes when you made this video? :O
Do most Trails fans recommend using a guide when playing the sky trilogy? I'm asking as a jrpg fan who wants to start the series.
It depends, but if you're open to using a guide, I would ultimately recommend using one at the start to get an idea of what you're missing if you don't. There are missible collectibles like individual chapters of in-game novels-no, seriously, these games have novels that you can stop to read at your leisure but you have to collect the chapters yourself more often than not-treasure chests in areas that you may or may not be able to revisit, etc. There are even "hidden quests" which require going out of your way to talk to a given NPC at a specific point in the playthrough, lest they expire. The quest system in Sky is especially unforgiving, because they might expire on you while you don't think you're doing anything.
Unrelated recommendation is the evolution voice mod, which adds voiced dialogue from the Japanese "Evolution" remaster to almost every cutscene in all 3 Sky games. I won't give instructions here, but if you're interested and need help with installing it, just leave a reply and we can talk on Discord or something.
I love the way this Sky series looks. I prefer this over the ps3 poly graphics.
Best JRPGs of all time
Falcom and NISA really wasted the opportunity of not advertising Trails through Daybreak on Nintendo Direct.
I'd love a Trails in the sky trilogy remake/remaster. Unfortunately, I don't think that's going to happen since license for the English localization is currently held by XSEED, so they'd need to translate all three games again
Matty, Daybreak is almost here!
He probably got a review code a few weeks ago !
These three games on 1 switch cart please. Charge $90, I’ll buy it.
The could easily have a compilation release and release it on the switch.
Dunno if you've talked about it but Sky is getting a remake/remaster which will mean even console players can experience full story
I hope this games come to Switch soon
You should listen to the Golden Sun music too. Just as good.
Going through SC currently and got third chapter installed and ready.
btw what instalment is this at 11:50? the art looks different.
Trails in the Sky Evolution. Basically the same game with updated art and voice acting
This is the vita version which looks different from the pc versions. Hope that helped.
Sky FC and the 3rd were awesome. SC... weeeeeell. It was good. At time very good. But i preffer the other two, hands down. Probably this is the big BIG reason why I preffer Zero-Azure duology. Also cause that duology my fav characters.
It's funny cuz I was just shopping for Trails games! And I got this one game called Nayuta: Boundless Trails. Is this the same universe but unconnected story-wise?
It is unclear. Kondo has apparently hinted at it being connected, but as of now, you can consider it to be a spinoff.
I'll keep it real. I don't think Nayura is connected at all. All the other games are heavily connected.
I need help, I’ve tried playing trails over and over again, I love jrpgs I feel like they repeat the dialogue so much I loose interest (this is first game I’ve only played) and I want to get into them so bad but the writing kills me any way to get over this or r the games just not for me? Marty or someone who loves these games please help and I did watch the video should I play another game first to get invested? I just desperately want to get into this series
Trails is consistently long-winded with dialogue, at least through the 7 games I've played. If you're not comfortable skipping dialogue you don't want to read, the series might not be for you. As what can only be considered a "superfan" of Trails, I have no shame in admitting that the series is niche for a reason: it does many things that would be a turn-off to fans of classic JRPGs, fans of modern ones, or even both. However, I do think it is worth trying a different game in the series, even if it means triggering the purists who insist that you play in release order, and seeing if you come away feeling any different. I don't _dislike_ Sky FC, but it is unquestionably my least favorite game in the series so far and I don't think anything will change that. I started with Cold Steel 1 and that game was much more my style for many reasons, but I realize that the QoL really made all the difference for me when juxtaposing the two.
@@BlueGrovyle thank you so much
@bobzdobz2161 hey I would give you a different suggestion. Try playing Ys VIII ( another series from falcom) that might be your jam.
I so badly want to play the entire Trails series from the start but the Sky trilogy is stuck on pc and old Playstation hardware. I only have a Switch. That's my gaming platform of choice.
Also the Switch is missing Trails of Cold Steel 1&2 which only came out in Japan and Korea from Clouded Leopard
👍👍👍👍👍
Eh, I'm not complaining about only this trilogy being unavailable on modern consoles. The fact that NIS/Falcom has like 8 games for a storied franchise that was once Japan only at the time in the West is incredible. For those in back pouting about the Sky trilogy being inaccessible, be grateful. That studio could be like Bandai Namco and largely ignore the remaster market.
It looks like Grandia
I’m interested in the series especially after playing Ys but the amount of dialogue really is hurdle for me. Maybe I’ll give it a shot after I finish the Ys series
I'm in
never want something to go full mainstream, it never ends well
it works so well exactly cause its niche, allowing it to play the way it does without broad appeal, coddling, casualization of its series, never goes well
I have never played a single Trails game. Since I loved Tales of; YS VIII, Persona, Final Fantasy, etc. I feel like this series would be for me
You can try the Trails through Daybreak demo on the Switch/PS4/PS5. It's not the "ideal" place to start the series (that will always be Sky First Chapter), but it is an amazing game, and could even motivate you to give the rest of them a try.
The demo is pretty long. Although you only get the Prologue on the Switch, whereas you get the Prologue & Chapter 1 on the PS4/PS5. That's about 4 to 8 hours worth of content, depending on which version you get.
You will definitely like trails if you liked Ys VIII
Trails in the sky fc is a psp title
Where can I play these games??
Steam has all of the Trails games.
The PS4 has all of the Trails games except for the Sky trilogy, and they can be played on the PS5 instead of you own that.
The Switch has all of the Trails games except for the Sky trilogy and Cold Steel 1 & 2.
They go on sale pretty often on Steam/PS4. I'm not sure how often they go on sale on the Switch though.
@@drakenstoc4885 thank you 🙏
@@elpiquetegames787 You're welcome. =)
Can you do a retrospective on Dragon Ball Z Burst Limit
