Although, I spent money on a radius cutter, motor bearings, paint for the motor, and other little things, that most folks would not need to buy. I've just spent the last couple of months building this grinder, ( i have taken my time, a little here and there) The plans/instructions are really good and if i was unsure of anything i would simply watch this video for clarification. I have had some trouble keeping things square, even with meticulous setting up my welding would often cause some distortion, I think due to the fact im using Arc rather than a MIG welder. These were only minor but i really liked that these distortions were easily rectified with shims and the grinder is now tracking really well.
    Jeremy is really responsive to e mails, i had a query about using slightly different gauge metal and he responded within hours with some useful info. I would definitely recommend having a go at this build i ummed and arred for a while but have really enjoyed the whole process.

    @hullinstruments Před 3 lety +3

    Man I don’t care what you’re working on.....I’m always glad to see you putting out some videos, or even knowing you’re working on projects off camera. Don’t let the stress and dread of making content effect your creativity and work. If you want to do a project and not make a video about it… Then by God your happiness is more important than putting out content! I can’t imagine having to drag out camera equipment every time I wanted to work on a project. That would seriously keep me out of my workshop, and I don’t want to see that happen to any creator.
    I enjoy your thought process and how you problem solve, While bringing in new ideas to all of your projects and going above and beyond in your engineering and design. You’re constantly pushing the envelope and doing something new and different with timeless old designs. The belt sander is a wonderful example, the handmade machined pen is another great example, ....but my favorite is the wooden pocket sheath for your ruler. That was an incredible project to see so many design iterations and a ridiculous amount of thought in each and every detail. From the clean out of dust in the ruler pocket, to the bending of the metal clip, and the curve put into the body to friction hold the ruler. Just incredible! I’ve watched that video over a dozen times. That’s a great example of how to bring new thought to an old idea, which is what I’m constantly trying to do in my shop and in my business.
    I left a comment for you several weeks ago regarding stress and Depression and a few other things you had mentioned previously… And it seems like things are headed in a better direction for you mentally and I hope you continue The hard task of learning how to enjoy the process of problem-solving.
    Whether or not you decide to share that with us isn’t a big deal… What’s important is that you figure out a way to enjoy what you’re doing…and hopefully that makes life on this shit-hole earth a bit less miserable and you can find a few random hours of peace and quiet in your mind.
    Rock on brother!

      Mine were purchased just after he initially released them, far beyond the window for recent purchases to upgrade.

    I appreciate every single part of that! I'm in manufacturing and have developed some pretty good stuff I think, its been out of necessity. I've forgotten what its like to do fun stuff. You just made that project fun, you took all the pain in the ass out of it for people like me who are not engineers. Your very innovative, you have a lot more to bring to the table I think, with years in front of you

  • @jastikawoodmetaldiyproject7276

    Great upgrade Jeremy. Enjoyed building Gen 1 and use it almost every weekend. I probably will not upgrade but looks like a good product. Would love to see you come up with other fabrication tool plans like a slip role or pan brake.

    Regarding those overlapping holes @13:18, you can drill them safely without problems if you drill every other hole first, then in-between them. This way the drill sees a symmetrical cut and doesn't wander :)

    Very good build Jer! From an old welder, here's a tip on your welds: Welds can start to crack at the end of your bead. To reduce this possibility, when you come to the end and let tension off your trigger, then pull the trigger again quickly, and briefly draw the gun back through the puddle, the length of the end puddle. Really makes a big difference, especially on metal that receives fatigue. It doesn't take long and a crack will form and the whole bead has to be replaced. Saw this happen to forklifts that were built with a cage around the driver. These were then lifted by the cage into the holds of cargo ships. Because the welder didn't finish the welds properly, 12 forklifts all cracked and had to be redone by scarfing, grinding, and re-welding. You don't make money when this happens! Happy welding!

    • @MadixLP
      @MadixLP Před 3 lety +5

      @justan idiot yes, one could just calculate everything from imperial to metric, but as Jeremy said in the video, as there is no easy 1 to 1 conversion regarding raw material, some alignment has to change. Also it's a big source for error, e.g. You're off by 2,5mm for your 3 1/2 inch conversion :)

    • @panagiotisg83
      @panagiotisg83 Před 3 lety

      @justan idiot I built the v1 and let me tell you, it wasn't as simple as just converting everything to metric. I had to work around larger or smaller stock and when you have lots of parts the differences add up.

    • @marko247
      @marko247 Před 3 lety

      @justan idiot If you paid any attention to the video you would have heard Jeremy explain why there are metric and imperial plans available... (Hint, it isn't just a case of converting raw numbers) 👍
