- Othawa male lion sightings 1st-2nd week March 2021 plus a few Jan/Feb sightings with Mhangeni pride.
Around 2:00 onwards in the video, these are January-February sightings and a post by Singita when the 3 Mhangeni cubs were still seen with the pride. Apparently, only 1 cub has been seen with the lionesses in the recent days. Not certain also what happened to one of the 3 older Mhangeni lionesses. Is she gone or just away from the pride because she's denning young cubs?

SINGITA SABI SAND'S FEBRUARY 2021 REPORT
Daggers of lightening stab through the stormy sky, illuminating the rain-soaked bush for a heartbeat. The deep call of a lion’s roar rumbles with supreme power and confidence, asserting governance and authority for all ears listening.
On the 21st February, four new lions walked onto our property - The N'waswitshaka lions. The sighting started when we located two of the six Mhangene lionesses at the far south-eastern waterhole in the reserve. As we stopped the vehicle, it was clear that these lionesses were highly distressed, glancing back every few seconds and then stumbling forward in a panicked dash. Confused anxiety whirled around us like a thick smoky cloud only to be abruptly broken by the loud, unmistakable gut-wrenching roar of mature male lions. Fleeting paws ran past us and we continued to the source of the chaos. As we rounded the corner onto our main road, we were met by the four N'waswitshaka lions. Projecting a dominance and supremacy with every step, puzzle pieces began to fall together and the shock and fear resonating from the lionesses began to make sense. Could this be the dawn of a new era of lions at Singita Sabi Sand?
Here’s a sightings snapshot for February:
- At the beginning of the month the Mhangene pride were comprised of six females, three cubs and the Othawa male. This changed on the morning of the 21st February with the arrival of the four N'waswitshaka lions. The Mhangene pride scattered, and the event left us with great concern regarding the wellbeing of the pride and cubs. In the week that followed, the pride slowly re-grouped, but with a chilling discovery… only one cub seems to have survived, and the Othawa male is limping. The four males have returned back to southern Sabi Sand, but will they be back?
- The Othawa sub-adults (one female and three males) were viewed a few times this month in the western parts of the property.
- The Styx and Nkuhuma coalition have been found throughout the north and central parts of the property, still nomadic and not marking a territory.

I was thinking the same thing. I am worried for him. Especially with him being a lone male lion and having coalitions of other males around him.
Apparently he has been killed by one of the birmingham boys. So sad

They don't protect anyone except themselves. They are only there to make money. They don't even send vets to treat the lion's natural wounds.
I even doubt that his death was natural. A single lion in charge of an entire pride doesn't have it easy these days in Londolozi. A lion like Nguvu killed in a fight is worth nothing, but as a trophy it is a few tens of thousands. And they need money, the coronavirus has mistreated their accounts.
In my first comment I wrote that whilst he could sneak into Birmingham's territory for the time being, a day would come when an enemy would catch up with him.
That day came: the Othawa prince is dead. It is official. He was only 6 yrs old. What a pity, what a loss!
That shot of him lying with his fore paws tucked made him look deceptively sweet. ❤️

Ooohweee!!!!! Was having an overwhelming not so good day and then i saw this video....this made my day! You know je is my absolute favorite! There's so much i can say about him, but the best way to describe this is that he is magnificent, impressive, bold and beyond gorgeous!!!!!! He is special and is under heavy prayers...he WILL be fine. I love the way the cubs waited for him to catch up and he stopped and scent marked until the youngest cub ran by with the piece of bush in it's little cute mouth! Yes he sure is one gorgeous lion.He looks more like the Mapogos.These are Kinkytails daughters.I think the three oldest.Very beautiful girls.If it wasn't for the tailless tslasa female escaping that day all four of KinkyTails daughters would have been killed because they were too young to mate.Four others that stayed were killed including Kinkytails only son..The Otthawa males mother and his brother were killed by hyenas.His sister is with the Otthawa pride.I wish them all the best

I am pretty sure he will have no offsprings from those females because he has to be with them for 4 straight days and around them 24/7 mating. I don’t think he spent that many days there but I could be wrong.
@@Cincy1 Ottawa had a pride of himself and fathered many cubs with his females. But that seems to not have been enough for him so he sneaked into Birmingham territory too. In other words and by lion rules, he got what he deserved. For us, it is a pity that we lost him.
My God he was a splendid looking animal. I truly hope he sired a lot of offspring to accentuate the beauty in the gene pool.

Nothing like announcing that there is a "new" sheriff in town. Yes, the Othawa is good-looking and seems to know his way around the Sands. I have never seen a King growl himself to sleep, but when you are the King . . . .

My fantasy is that Othawa Male would have been geographically closer to Read Road Male of the Manyeleti, the sole protector of the Nharu Pride with whom he lives in similar harmony as Othowa male & the Mhangeni Pride. Both OM & RRM are Gorgeous Magnificently Maned Lone Lions facing the challenge of Coalitions around their territories which is a threat to safety & hinders their dominant natures. I so wish that they could have formed a formidable Coalition with the 2 beautiful prides of capable huntresses within relatively close proximity to sire many Cubs, live peacefully as humans should aspire to be & conveniently protected by their Kings🦁.👑🥩🦁👑🥩

Hi, i wanna ask if lions coalition are all blood related? Or not necessarily?
Usually they are related (brothers or cousins raised in the same pride). Sometimes males from different prides but were sired by same coalition band together. There are also cases of totally unrelated males forming a coalition.

If he ventures West, hes in trouble. If he stays in his current territory, He is under threat from the west and coalition of 3 that recently took over old HB matimbas area and pride(s). I hope the Othawa male continues to thrive, but its not going to be getting any easier.

Prince O will have a lot of decisions to make soon. The fact that he's limping after losing cubs means he's still fighting for his girls. .. and he loves his girls.. . Idk, like it or not, lots of changes coming to SS.
@@charm8170 I have seen footage on the 3 males to his west. From what I have seen in updates, HB matimaba vacated finally, He held on as long as possible. I hate to think of his passing but he is gone now and I hope he passes in peace with no pain. But the 3 that took over his area. If Othawa male can single them out and get one of them in a one on one, I think he can take them that way. maybe, just maybe he could handle two if he has it in him. But not 3. HEs smart. if threatened by these other 3 to the west that is his best chance. Seek them in single encounters. avoid the 2-3 on one. Those 3 not in there prime just yet, but they are getting there and confident now that HB is gone and they think they took something over. They didnt. HB left from what I know. They were there kind of waiting.

Wow, what a roar. So hard to have a good idea of his size compared to other males around him. He looks so huge with these girls, but they are females. 6 yrs old, what will he look like at 8? Can't wait to see.

He was actually the son of a Majingilane male and a Mapogo lioness, so his father was actually one of the four who killed Kinky Tail.

@@rodrigoliuth1562 KT had an impressive mane but it wasn't as large as Othawa male. The rangers at this park have confirmed Othawa's parentage. He was born into a litter of 3 cubs (two were female which is why he never had a coalition brother). His mother was a Mapogo lioness and his father was dark mane majingilane. There are videos of Othawa as a cub with his father and you can see his fathers mane was very similar.

When was the scene with the three cubs filmed? Can you share any insight to recent reports that he was in a conflict and is down to one cub? Secondly if I’m not mistaken, are the three eldest lionesses direct descendants of the Mlowathi duo? The original 4 lionesses broke away from their natal Tsalala Pride and became Mhangeni but I’m not sure if they’re all alive still,,,please educate me.
3 oldest sired by Mapogos (4th is not alive anymore), 2 younger by Majingilanes (only 2 of the Mhangeni 12 that survived) and the youngest one is daughter of Birminghams. And then there is the remaining Othawa's cub (who I have no idea whether it is a male or female).

If you go to All Lions of Africa on Facebook you'll see a post report from Singita as to the nwaswishakas attacking the Mhengi pride them scattering and a week later only on cub an it's injured

@@robertbond330 Why go to unreliable facebook, when it is in Singita February report. Anybody can make up or alter thing on facebook, that is not reliable. for example there is nothing about the last cub being injured anthe wording is "in the week that followed" not after a week.

love this lion and I love his courage and ambitiousness, but I see things without emotion and aspirations
I was previously hoping he would find a partner , but he is a lonely lion and he will not be able to protect his cubs against any attack on his pride and his survival until now is only good luck
He will not be able to face two or three lions without the help of another lion with him. I expect it would be difficult for him to remain alone for a long time
I think he will be evicted from the pride during the next 3-6 months. By any of coalitions. He will most likely go nomad again, maybe he will find some nomad young lionesses or join another coalitiion. Or he will dissappear at all.
