  • Container gardening is easy once you know what vegetables & herbs to grow and a few tips on how to grow best in grow bags, buckets, flower pots, etc. Today I'll take you through my seven favorite crops to grow in containers and the things you should always do when starting a container garden. Container gardening offers a great solution to small space gardens, such as a balcony garden, patio garden, apartment garden, and more. I'll also harvest turnips from my grow bags!

    We have used all of these things as well it really is helpful for keeping bugs out of them. Also helpful if you need to cover them.

      Yes to both of those! I’ve seen a big difference in insect-prone plants when I keep them on the patio in containers.

    Great video Valerie. Thanks for sharing your tips. Love your garden chair, it has such interesting details on it. I have something similar that I bought while we were traveling through Africa last year.

    The rain bombs we've been getting the last few years have forced me to get my tomatoes out of the ground and into 55 gallon poly drums cut in half. I hill my garden rows, but nothing was capable of preventing the excess rain from bursting them.

    Nice tip on tomatoes!! We took suckers of one of ours and planted them into a grow bag just to see.
    Biggest problem for has always been moisture, but know we're at the garden.

    How do you offset the cost of the soil/ingredients?Matt

    • @NowGardening
      @NowGardening  Před rokem

      Hi again 😊 When I’m first setting up new containers, I consider it a investment cost. But from that point on, I will reuse the soil each year (adding compost and fertilizers to replenish the nutrients lost). I have been doing this with my flowers and potted plants for years with great results. The only exception is if the plant is diseased and then the soil gets thrown out. Also, I try to save costs by making my own comfrey and nettle fertilizers and using saved rainwater to water everything when I’m not traveling. Hope this gives you a few ideas!

    What’s your thought on copper in the garden?

    • @NowGardening
      @NowGardening  Před rokem +1

      Copper is a complicated topic. According to university studies, not enough of it and your plants are susceptible to diseases and stunted, too much and your plants are stunted too. I haven’t experimented with it, so I don’t have a strong opinion on it except to say to be careful not to overdo using it since correcting soil that has too much copper seems to require a lot of effort.

    • @edwardgarza2980
      @edwardgarza2980 Před rokem

      I meant copper antenna, coiled on a rod, not spreading copper in the garden i’ve seen some videos I thought you might have some insight. Thanks for your opinion.
