  • The leveling system on our RV is broken, the slides don't work, our windshield is cracked and this is our home, what do we do. Well we took our RV into the largest RV Service shop we could find. Lazydays RV Service, and this is part one of our experience with Lazydays in Tampa Florida.

My first motorhome purchase was from a MAJOR dealer in Texas. It was a Coachmen. There were the typical problems that result from zero CRAFTSMANSHIP in the RV industry, but we dealt with those. But, everytime I opened the black/gray tank cap to dump the tanks, there was a quart or two of fluid that gushed out. I made 4 (FOUR) trips at 250 miles round trip each to drop off the RV because they "had to" keep it over night. Each time, they claimed to have fixed it. Go back and pick it up. Then, same issue. The last time it was there, they claimed to have actually replaced the gate valve, not just the o-rings and seals. Same issue. Eventually, while on a trip, I took it to the leveling system manufacturer in Michigan to fix a minor issue. I explained to the manager (since he was going to have to move the dump pipe and valve) that he needed to be careful when removing the cap because of the leakage. He immediately knew what the problem was because he stated he'd seen it dozens of times. When the RV manufacturer cuts the hole in the holding tank to attach the dump line fitting, they don't remove the "plug" that's created (would take all of about 15 seconds, but they don't have time), and then, eventually, it gets lodged in the gate valve so that it isn't closing properly. So the problem was fixed in about 20 minutes TOTAL. And, after seeing the plug myself as he removed it, it was obvious to me that the dealer I bought the motorhome from had flat-out LIED about even working on the issue. Talk about being soured on a company. I'll NEVER buy another RV from them, PERIOD. And I hear that this isn't an isolated incident in the RV business. One horror story after another. If someone can figure out how to build a quality RV and then back it up with half-way decent service, and actually DO what they PROMISE to do, they'll be a gazillionaire.

Unfortunately we have heard similar stories from other rv'ers and unlike the automobile industry most RVs are pretty much hand made and subject to human nature which can be a major flaw.

Great video Bob,......can't wait for the follow-up parts #2,.......and maybe #3? We need more people like you to document your experiences at all the various dealers you work with along the way.. People need to know that everything you have come to expect from a car dealer has NOTHING in common at all with an RV repair facility. You need to find a place that you can work with. You cannot afford to burn bridges by being too hard to work with. There are only so many good ones!! We all need to expose the bad ones, and praise the good ones. On our Travel Channel, we have reviewed our experience with National Indoor RV Centers. We were treated fairly, they were professional, accommodating to our full time living schedule and have four facilities spread out across the US. They are the go-to place for us!

I totally agree with your comment and we are trying to keep an open mind as they are very busy and we can't expect to get in the front of the line, and it does appear things are getting done and ordering and receiving parts is the big hurdle. But looking like we may only have a couple more days before we get out on the road again

  • @TSemasFl
    @TSemasFl Před 5 lety

Well that's it, if you need parts and they're not in stock, you have to wait. Now you go back in line. Every dealership, whether it be car trunk, boat, RV, motorcycle, all operate the same way. I'm sure they are out of parts if people always come in with the same issues, sideout motors, valves, switches. Those parts go out as fast as they come in. It's life, just except it and be glad you're in good hands there.

    • @JustPassingThru

I love watching your videos. What a loving couple and your video shows the frustrations of slow service. I agree with parts, finding and ordering. I experienced this when I went to pick up my first motorhome 10/2018. So happy with the way I was treated, excellent service because the stress test they did on my MH brought up a crankcase leak, refrigerator failed, signal switch failed, leak in the propane, both air units were not working properly, alternator issues (oh many more smaller things). They replaced all of this included in the purchase price but finding parts for a 1991 Foretravel ... I definitely feel your pain but mine only took 7 days. At the time I thought that was bad.

Hi Larry, that is all good stuff and it would probably make a good video. I assure you our bays are jammed full, the car is jammed full and our closets are jammed full. We need to downsize again. Once we get to a campground and set up , it pretty much clears out the car but we are caring around lots of items we never even touch, see or use. Making a video would help clear it out, but probably cause a mild debate between us so not sure I am ready to open that can of worms just yet.

I bought a new motorhome from a large dealer in Michigan and the service was terrible. There prices were the cheapest as far as buying the RV, as we did shop around a bit, and there was only 2 of this particular model that we wanted in the US and they were both at this dealer. I believe the reason service is poor, is they are just to big, there is no personalism it's like a factory! My next purchase will be from a small dealer, because everyone knows these things break down all the time especially when they are brand new!!! Great video very fair! Thank you.

What was mentioned ... over 200 bays? The tech that was working on your coach had a doctor's appointment and they didn't have another tech that could take over? That leads me to believe they only have a few tech's on site and they don't cover for each other (like MOST service departments do).

Duane RENT one for a Week or two before you buy! I didn't rent first and I am disgusted with the overall mile per gallon on our 2005 36' Rexhal Rexair with only 15,000 miles on it when we purchased. We took a 1,200 mile trip from North Port Florida to Atlanta Georgia a 600 mile one-way trip. Fuel cost for the Trip was $4,653.00! I made the mistake of loading up the refrigerator and freezer with food and drinks. My fridge is run on propane or 120VAC. So as we drove I had to run the generator which takes a gallon per hour. It also powers the roof Top AC Units. Rent First, Rent First, Rent First!

I noticed that I didn't see any Prevost coaches there?? I think that alone says it all, lol I think that it's high time that the government checks out these RV dealerships and repair depots, especially with the big money that people spend on these RVs when they tie up some people for a couple of weeks at a time and don't even compensate them for anything. It's nothing for them to inconvenience you for a couple of weeks with the old parts are on backorder, but, it takes them less than 1 minute to take your money from you when you buy these RVs from them. Then after that they don't care about you, they already got the money for the RV now your at their mercy waiting for your coach to get repaired.

As the old saying goes, if you want something done right, do it yourself. There may be a service center somewhere with such detail but it seems that a huge dealer should only be used for emergency items and then hound them but only for that one thing. No one is going to properly seal your roof like you would. Anywho, the sign at the beginning says it all, resort and rentals, notice they don't stick service up on that sign, just saying.

The customer isn't actually always right, but the customer does always deserve the right to have it explained in a manner that is understandable and timely. Something is simply missing in the Lazydays operational structure I feel.

Lots of truth there, but there is probably a buyer for it all and eventually will be sold. They really are busy here and RVs are moving in and out all day long.

I agree, but it is still just another chapter in life and will add to our campfire stories once the pain has gone away

Usually Service is the cash cow, not sales, so this place must be making a killing on sales to be able to have the service they lack. In the end it boils down to one person, the General manager. He/she is the overseeing eye, and if they can't get the crew to work together, this is the outcome. Hate to say it, but a Certified Parts person for one brand is bogus! The majority of the parts in all these RV's are from various manufacturers, and not inclusive to any one particular brand. They are not like cars and trucks where you can go to a Dealer to get a seat or controls or modules. Plenty of the parts in RV's can be found on Amazon! One thing I found out, the chassis of many different brands and models all come from one supplier. Same goes for Motorhomes, they use a standard chassis from either GM, Dodge or Ford. The only unique items are body panels. No certified parts person, what a bogus excuse. Hope at the very least when they were done they did the h=job right, and I hope you got them to finish the roof repairs before you left.

They are just to big. I would not buy or get service from this company. They are awful. They have ripped off several-of my friends. I blame ownership, and shitty management. The lady in service who is the manager is just a big rude lying county backwoods hick. She has zero managerial skills. This place needs to revamp everything. They just suck man. This guy is way to nice.

I think things have been going down hill for a lot of years, I really don't hardly ever expect to receive great service anymore and it is always a big shock when we actually do receive it. Things have changed a lot, but that is just the way it is, so we have to accept it generally. But retirement life has helped me to deal with it and life is so darn good now days, not much gets me too fired up anymore. Helps the blood pressure too.

why are you making excuses for them, they run a poor operation and if you would have googled them before you went there you would have known that, plus their prices are way out of line not to mention your lost time, i never use an rv dealer for service, comfortable chairs and good coffee are not worth the added cost and time

I don't know, but maybe someone reading this knows...do they use child labor at that place? The reason I ask is because that caulking looks like a kindergartner did it! 😁

No, that is, hands down, Camping World. I mean survey after survey has been done and CW always gets about 90% of the vote for worst RV dealership.
