You missed an important detail: it's not a bass, it's a cello.
Replacing the bass with a cello is one of the great ideas that makes the sound that unique.

Their song Banjo Odyssey has one of the most ick factor lyrics of any song but is such a catchy tune. It is one of my guilty pleasures. They have some great songs. This one is a massive ear worm so hard to get free from. 😂

Yeah, I’m honestly torn about that song, it’s one I liked at first and if not for a few lines could be taken differently but honestly can’t listen to it now especially after the departure of a band member for multiple sexual assaults, just a bit too real. The rest of their work is awesome.

@@Chromatomic Thanks for posting. I was not aware of what had come to light last summer. I looked into it and must agree it really does put it all in a very different light. That song will definitely get dropped from the playlist. I will be interested to see what additional steps the band takes beyond Danny leaving and training on consent. Here is a local news story about it www.cbc.ca/news/canada/saskatchewan/women-detail-sexual-misconduct-allegations-against-former-the-dead-south-band-member-1.5699608

I discovered this video recently and my initial reaction was like..
"wow! who the hell is this band? I love it!"
I think it's the simplicity and focus on the music without sound effects, I think it's a harkening back to when one band after another in the 60's and 70's were just out doing themselves with original tunes, etc. their an independent label so you have to have actual talent to make it and they got it!

For drinking anything out of a screw-top jam jar, you are remarkably clear-headed... ;D
I've loved this song for years now. Hank III hooked me in with his funny lyrics (some covers), same as others did generations before with other novelty songs, but I basically love me some fun and basic country music!

Just saw your review and you are right on. I would respectfully add... 1) The visual of the two singers in the middle and their synchronized steps and snaps adds a TON to it. It makes the viewer want to jump in. 2) they break they visual routine up in the second verse but still synced, 3) The most obvious thing to me is it's done in cut-time so it almost literally inviting the listener to join in. This is well done. Simple musicianship, with a melodic banjo and cello, as well as nice harmonies. I am no expert, but as a musician, those are the things that draw me in. Good Good Good stuff!!!! Thanks for the review.

Death South should have had a concert in Norway, in 2019, but suddenly Covid-19 stepped in, and ruined that.
Then they where rescheduled to come in 2020, but restriction was still in place.
At last in March 2022, they could come to Norway, but then, I wasn't able to see them.

I've been loving this song, and especially this video (there are others, of course) since last year. An interesting fact about this band--they're Canadian, from Regina, Saskatchewan. Until I learned that, I'd assumed they were from the south, somewhere. I've also heard (maybe it was in the comments) that some southerners are upset that a Canadian band did this song. Excellent music, excellent video, nothing for anyone to be upset about.

    Hello, 👋
    Great video, 👍👍
These guys are awesome, I have not heard a song of theirs I have not liked thus far, 👍👍
Another awesome Artist worth hearing if you are interested is Tom Macdonald (if you have not already heard of him that is), I am a fairly older lady and like a little bit from every genre, in particular I have my favorites in rap also, but for the most part I feel the newer rappers have lost their way a wee bit, I happened across one of Tom's and now I just keep watching them, 👍👍, it is just he and his girlfriend Nova with help from friends here and there, if you choose to listen to one of his, I would suggest you start with 'People So Stupid' or 'Brainwashed', if you like one or both of those, the 'HOG' family will happily guide you through the rest, 👍😏😁
Also another awesome group (out of the many) to watch is 'Toora Loora Lay' by NaFianna, 👍👍
Have a safe and wonderful weekend, 👋😁👋
