It'd be placed under the educational or how-to section.

They probably show the movie in prisons but with an alternate ending. Andy gets chased down by guard dogs and gets eaten alive or Andy gets skinned alive and gets salt poured all over him or something crazy like that.

Clapping and acknowledgement are two totally different things...
Clapping can be vainglorious and useless...
A simple acknowledgement of a good deed, say, a mention of it might actually inspire someone to do something good...
And im not sure if your up on the current state of the world, but truth and kindness are at an all time low...
Violence, debauched sex, drug use, pedophilia, hate and mistrust are being lauded aa virtuous...
However, you probably don't live in America...these liberals leftist Democrats are trying to reign in an era of communism and socialism, and cause divisiveness between neighbors and brothers...
They even shun the mere mention of Christianity and Jesus...
So yes, there needs to be more good being done and acknowledged...

Shawshank Redemption is #1 on imdb thanks to Batman. Back then The Godfather had been the #1 for years, then in 08 The Dark Knight got released and took it's throne. Godfather fans were so angry they talked smack on the TDK board and voted 1/10. TDK was never gonna stay #1 for long, so when the fans retaliated with 1/10 votes, both fell down the rankings and 2nd placed Shawshank became the new king till this day. Nerd history for ya.

I think Tim Robins and Morgan Freeman were the perfect actors casted for Shawshank. As individuals for their aura, and the two of them combined in the way they connected on-screen, the chemistry, magic if you want. For me the scene where Andy was walking very leisurely on the prison yard and the voice of Morgan Freeman was narrating that was like were the casting must have felt "we've nailed it" !

I LOVE that he said he didn't know if the escapees were guilty or not. I mean they probably are, but to me that just me speaks of this guy's compassion and insight because he regards prisoners as human when it's so easy for people to marginalize them. They're seen as this mythical group outside normal society that's in prison because they're evil and need to be there. Plus there ARE innocents in prison, so it's always good to see the distinction between someone being guilty and having been convicted, unless you're familiar with the particulars of an individual case to know that they were convicted without reasonable doubt (which I want to believe most of them are and I do realize they don't hand out murder convictions very lightly).

Poor Stephen King getting little recognition for this one, although props for Robbins for mentioning King. One of the main reasons the movie is so good is because of how faithful it is to the novella.

This movie was shot in my back yard. I was in it as a core con, 1 of 30 main background characters. The day we started shooting I was setting with Tim & a couple guys b.s.'n in the rec yard & Tim up & says, "I'm going to go down in the hole, don't let any1 pass this door. No matter what you hear or how long it takes don't let come down there. If Frank sends some1 looking for me tell them I'll be out when I'm ready". So we sat watch, waiting, &eventually they did come asking, & when Tim came out, he wAs Andy. He went into character & that was it, he became Andy. I watched it, he went in Tim came out Andy.

Shawshank Redemption hasn't been lower than #2 on the iMDb rankings since 1996. That's quite the achievement for a movie that bombed because it had a title no one could remember.

Just wanted to tell I watched Shawshank in 2021 for the 1st time and I'm at a complete loss for words. You might find this childish but I feel like I've achieved something in life just by watching this Movie. lol
The following aspects of the movie were of sheer delight:
    1) Andy escapes from the prison to freedom and goes to the bank to
cash in all the earnings of the warden's that he (the warden) had
    accrued within his lifetime.
    2) The wonderful moment when Red is released from Shawshank.
    3) The box of cash which Andy tendered to him under the tree where
Andy first made love to his wife to be.
    4) The bus trip that Red took to meet Andy south of the border.
    5) The bittersweet ending where Red finds Andy fixing up a boat and
    the two of them hug!
This movie is one of those for the ages and is UNFORGETTABLE! I watch it every time it is shown on TV and know the lines and scenes to a tee.
An EXTREMELY enjoyable movie and leaves viewers with such a profound feel of joy to see the two main characters reunited at the end!
SHAWSHANK will live for more 250 years to come...

Shawshank Redemption was written by Stephen King BUT it was actually based on Frank Freshwaters, who in 1936 escaped from Ohio prison, it took him nearly 20 years to dig his way out of prison but he did it! and was recently captured, but let go due to old age. Homage must be paid to the foundation of Shawshank Redemption, even by Stephen King. He didn’t just think of it that story.
