I recall that, by chance, after David had died, I turned on the TV for whatever reason (it was late) and there were the other Temps singing with the tears in their eyes and voices, at DR's wake. OMG. Such raw emotion on display. Lord love you, David.
To my knowledge, David Ruffin wanted the group to be known as "David Ruffin and The Temptations" but the rest of the group wasn't having it. He would ride to gigs separately from the group. This would be the beginning of issues that would lead him to be voted out of the group and replaced by Dennis Edwards - who was a complete 180 from Ruffin and who was accepted quickly by many Temptation fans since they knew what the group went through. Edwards himself said he was so nervous the first time he went on stage with the group that he had apologized to the crowd beforehand telling them to forgive him because he may forget lyrics to the songs. The crowd loved how genuine he was and accepted him with open arms everywhere. When Id first heard this song, it sounded like the instrumental hit "The Hustle". Years later, Id found out this song was produced by one of the Kings of Disco himself Van McCoy, whose masterpiece was 'The Hustle".

I even bought glasses called ''DRs'' I idolized him so much. Just a white boy from the burbs, lettin the music take me away.

Check out one of his last live performances! He was just alone karaoke style on stage! Treat her like a lady!! Absolutely amazing! Hit every note at that age and he was ill at that time

Don't forget he did a duet with Eddie Kendricks as well, the song was I Couldn't Believe It. And don't forget Standing On The Top with Rick James and The Temptations. It was unique because it had the original members (except Paul Williams he had passed away) and the new members at the time when the video was made. Not a bad video in my opinion.
David Ruffin had one of the finest voices in music. Unfortunately, he also had a giant ego and a few demons that caused him to make a lot of bad career choices. The demons also destroyed him in the end, a real tragedy.

If you watch the video of him and Eddie doing a medley of songs, it shows his voice never suffered. It’s from around 1989. It’s legendary.
Believe it or not, but this song was recorded on David’s first try. That is truly outstanding and why he is one of the greatest in the Motown era!
