From fringe sport to global phenomenon, Nothing’s For Free chronicles the birth and legacy of freeride mountain biking. The film charts a course through a three-decade journey with the pioneers, visionaries, and industry masterminds that pushed the sport to where it is today.
Outside Studios, in association with Freeride Entertainment and Pinkbike, breaks boundaries in documentary filmmaking with a front row seat to the sport's defining moments. Nothing’s for Free features the biggest names in freeride, from the early pioneers to modern-day superstars like Danny Macaskill, Brandon Semenuk, and Brage Vestavik.

I was living on Oahu, Hawaii in 2000, and I saw Kranked 3 playing on the tv at a bike shop I happened to stop by while looking for bikes. A few weeks later, I bought a used 1999 Norco Vps-2 from that same shop, and I was hooked. Did loads of urban freeride around the UH campus and bombing down the St. Louis Heights trail.
My next bike after that was a 2003 Cove G-spot because I saw Wade Simmons wearing the shop jersey in a vid and I wanted to know where to buy the jersey and ended up ordering a bike frame from Deep Cove.
Got to meet a few of the OGs in 2005 during Monsterpark at Snowshoe.

I often went to Oahu,Hawaii around the same time.I forgot the name of the shop,but it reminds me of a bike shop inside the North Shore Marketplace.A shop that looks like a surf shop and a bike shop combined.I bought a 98 FOES Weasel after seeing it there.
next bike was 2003 Santacruz Bullit with Marz Super T .because I got knocked out by Kranked 3 roof top drop segment.
I'm getting old.and I'm still riding too.

@@live4ride74 Sick, I had a orange 2005 Bullit after I sold my Cove on pinkbike. Great bike; in my riding group at the time a few of us all had Bullits. Mine shipped with a 5th element, which I later swapped out when Marzocchi had the Roco rear shock and had an 88 fork up front.

Reminds me of the collective. Mtb wouldn't exist as it does today without these legends.
This sport shaped me into the person I am today, and 17 years later I still love this sport as much as I did when I first picked up a bike. First mtb films I saw was nwd5 and Roam, crazy how far the sport has come❤️

Then you take the plunge, and that's when the dream becomes reality and the hard work finally pays off. Constantly surpassing yourself and your own limits, on the fringes of a sleepy society, is a wake-up call to the gateway to a paradise, or rather a dream come true, with tricks and jumps that were previously unimaginable. Man, that was tough to watch the full film. I appreciate the pioneers that pushed the sport forward. Without them, we wouldn't have the bikes today that make 52 yr old punters like me feel like Rockstars. Their influence is everywhere. On the bikes, on how trails are built, and on how the sport is approached. It's just tough to see the human cost of pushing the sport. It was also a little unfortunate the Rads got pretty much dismissed. Had they been filming like the BC boys and girls, there would have been some insane footage. Maybe not the huge drops, but they were riding some serious lines.
