I’m disabled, I wouldn’t dream of renovating a room, I’d be useless, but I would like to upcycle some furniture, so I’m interested! Sorry if I sound completely clueless, happy to look stupid to gain knowledge!

Primer will keep the paint from peeling or flaking off after years and it will make the color more vibrant. If you don't have primer, use a white layer of paint in order to "cancel out" the original paint layer. This does the same as primer except have it stay longer. I believe depending on the primer it does make the paint color last longer.
Beautiful job! I use Benjamin Moore Cabinet Coat it’s pricy but it covered my factory stained and coated cabinets in one coat- I did wipe them first with tiny drop of Dawn and warm water, 3 years, no chips - let the cabinet drawers and keep the doors ajar for 3 days to completely cure. It’s magic!
Pro Tip: Next time painting wood use Wil-Bond to wash down cabinets (no need to sand) then a coat of Stix tinted same color as cabinets (makes acrylic paint stick) and then a high quality acrylic self leveling paint preferably from Benjamin Moore. Your cabinets will not have a single brush mark and they'll look as if they were factory sprayed.
After decorating our last two houses with white kitchens our present house had wood and we love it and kept it. They're the ones everyone hates...golden oak! Fortunately they don't have the arch so we used black bar pulls and black granite and went with a Japanese vibe. The kitchen is amazing.

Painter for over 40 years here. Always use a stand-alone primer such as KILZ Premium, or Zinsser, followed by Benjamin Moore Advance. Any Valspar product, any application is a huge NO in my book. Don't skimp price-wise on eye-level cabinets youre going to look at every day that'll receive a lot of use, wear and tear. Great job though, lovely colors!
The after was so fast didn't really get a good look. Also wondered why you didn't show all the side areas of the kitchen too. From what I could see it looked fantastic.
I hate those professional renovators on HGTV where they chuck put perfectly good cabinets instead renovating them OR even donatong or selling them to salvage yards. This lady is refreshing!!! xxx
Looks completely fabulous!Kitchen cabinets have to be cleaned extensively bc of grease build up.. if there's any film on them, its a mess ! Primer later makes a huge difference. I've seen alot of folks clean and fill in top of cabinets with more storage too - less cleaning the tops.
I probably would have changed the hardware but that’s personal preference and something that can be done at a later time. Also, the corners are a give away regarding it being epoxy rather than the real thing- you could make sure there’s no line there that gives it away (if this is a problem for you). Adding soft close to the cabinetry both doors and drawers elevates big time if you choose to in the future. Hiding the hinges (cabinet doors) makes a small visual impact compared to all the work you have already done. Go with white grout but don’t justify your choice- it’s easy to second guess. Doesn’t matter- white, black or grey, end product looks great 🙂 Definitely huge improvement over what was there before regardless of how you look at it 🙂 Great job
My cabinets here a dark wood. I painted the inside and outside white but on the edge of the shelves, I did a little line of bright green (matches my KitchenAid). Looks so much better.

I also have that backsplash. We did it ourselves and the tiles were super cheap. We did black grout with the white tiles. You did excellent, saving money. You used the best tricks of the trade.

Huge change. Great job. Primer is good idea but to take it to another layer, use grain filler. You can purchase grain filler but to keep it budget you can use drywall mud. Super thin layer that you sand off. Again just filling in that grain. Then primer and paint. Last thing on the cabinets, do a super deep clean of the cabinets before starting. Must remove all the dirt, grime, especially any grease on all painted surfaces. The

Yes! I agree! It is best to prime even if the cabinet paint claims you don’t have to. Definitely a lesson learned.

I completely agree with this! I let the sales person talk me into using the stand-alone Valspar cabinet paint and that was a mistake!

Rustoleum cabinet paint works better IMO. I feel ya on the Valspar as Ive use both for cabinet makeovers. Zinsser primer for the win. Looks great.
