    Can confirm that 30 years later the EP82 Starlet does exceptionally well in the Colorado snow. Starts right up even in the negatives

    I learned to drive in a Z32 300zx. Good rear traction in the snow but you can't brake hard enough to stick the front and avoid the tendency to understeer. Throwing it sideways might not have been the fastest way to corner but it was the most consistent. The Z33 I have now is the same but it's less forgiving that the Z32 was. I think a lot of that is down to the tires though. I'd like to feel some narrow winter tires on my Z33 but we only get good snow once every couple years.

      It’s cool reading about other people’s experiences with Z32’s. We don’t get much snow where I live, so it’s interesting to see your feedback.

    I know this video is fun and games, but the MR2 is actually very good in the snow because of the RWD mid-engine layout.
    I found it superior to front-engine rwd, because you have the engine weight in the back, on top of the drive-wheels.
    I found it superior to a front-engine fwd, because for a fwd you shift a lot of weight to the rear during acceleration, and lose lots of traction at the drive-wheels.
    On steep uphills fwd has no weight on drive-wheels and just slips. The front-engine RWD is better because it will shift most of the car weight to the rear, and the MR2 does even better with the engine in the rear in these situations.
    On steep downhills, I find no flaw with a RWD because you just let gravity roll you down regardless.
    FWD would only be superior if there was a competition of the cars driving uphill in reverse.

    • @Alex-cn9ot
      @Alex-cn9ot Před 2 lety

      There is no MR2 with 3.0L engine and there are no V6 engines in any MR2 line. So you are confused. The biggest MR2 engine is 2.2L. and is inline four (L4)

  • @KaDuWin

    The guy in the MR2 is totally sandbagging and intentionally feeding in too much throttle. I owned and daily drove an MR2 mk2 in sun, rain, and snow for 12 years straight. Even in a foot of snow that was a suprisingly good car (not optimal amount but the car still did it). In 3-8 inches I had no issue and at times had better grip than Imprezzas and plenty of SUVs. As an owner, I call total BS on that driver's performance.

    • @taargus_taargus
      @taargus_taargus Před 2 lety

      Agreed. I daily drove an MR2 for 5 years straight in rain and snow and if you knew car control, it could handle the snow fine. I even kept right on the bumper of some WRX on a snowy twisty unplowed back road one time. Though I was on winter tires and he was probably on all-seasons or something.
